Can I Join Your Recreational Cheer Team

Should i join cheer , dance or gymnastics ?

Dance- you can do recreational classes or a team that competes. you can choose from ballet, jazz, tap, modern, hip hop, lyrical and clogging. You will gain flexibility and get to learn dance routines.
Gymnastics- you can do recreational classes or a competitive team. you will get to do bars, beam, floor and vault. you will get to learn tumbling.
Cheerleading- you can cheer for your school, a rec team, an all star team or just do a class. You will get to learn tumbling, stunts, cheers, chants and jumps.

Could I join cheerleading/dance teams in College if I didn't do it in High School?

I'm going to be going in to College soon and I have always wanted to be on either a cheer squad or a dance team, but in High School I never bothered partly because I was more of a "gothic" type chick and all of my friends hated the cheerleaders. I know, it's a stupid reason to not do something I truly wanted to do, but I'm looking for a fresh start. I graduated High School in '07 and have had a lot of time to grow up and I want to go back to school and definitely want to try out but I'm just wondering if you think I have a chance. I'm planning on getting as much practice as I can beforehand and prepare any way I can; videos, books, yoga, and any current or ex cheerleaders/dancers if I can find them. Any advice?

What are some creative ways to get into the Olympic spirit and cheer on your team?

I know someone who wore really tight underwear in honor of the phenomenon that is the U.S. men's rowing team and their meme. The underwear is black and looks really similar to this picture:I know a girl who is getting her boyfriend banana hammock underwear in the most patriotic colors to support the U.S. swim team.

My 14 year old daughter wants to join the cheerleading team at her school but I'm concerned she will get injured. What should I do?

You can’t and shouldn’t keep them in a rubber bubble forever. There is such a thing as being too protective and that is when, like in this scenario, it effects their development negatively.Cheerleading is a lot of things. It’s fun, being involved, being supportive of her peers, it’s great exercise, they learn to work as a team and they’re part of a group that has similar interest. Not all cheerleading includes dangerous maneuvers that include stunts that risk injury. Those are mainly reserved for senior, very experienced, in good shape, and well trained cheerleaders that have practiced it hundreds of thousands of times. They’re not going to put a 14 year old rookie on top of a 30 person pyramid and they’re not going to be slinging her 10+ feet in the air like a rag doll any time soon. She will be doing primarily syncronized dancing, high kicks, clapping, and of course chanting in support of the team. They’re not going to make her do things she isn’t in good enough shape to do. They will encourage her to be in the best physical shape possible with calisthenics (dances, stretches, maybe but not all encourage jogging).Cheerleading is a great thing for a teen girl all the way to an adult woman to do and be involved with. They also do a lot more than just cheer sometimes. Cheerleaders are traditionally pretty girls that help, support, and encourage sports teams to succeed. They will sometimes do and help with fundraisers and booster drives if the team needs funds for some reason which is another opportunity for young women to learn and do things like crafts, decorating, coloring, painting, and more.Let her do it. Support her and encourage her to do it.

High school cheerleading or dance team?

you should check with the sponsors to see which is cheaper. depending on what you are required to purchase will change costs. at my school cheerleading is a lot more expensive.

you dance in musicals, but do you have previous training otherwise? was it hard to get on the cheerleading team in middle school? do you tumble? some high school teams require tumbling to make the squad.

dance team will be more work than musical dancing, since roles are also given based on vocal talent (i know, i'm in musical and on one of the dance teams at my school). keep in mind that dance teams are a lot more specific than musicals, with complicated choreography. cheerleading is stiffer than traditional dance, and there are stunts.

please dont listen to people's stereotypes. being a cheerleader or dancer will not automatically make you conceded or popular. that will depend on personality and friend choice.

what did you like most about cheerleading? what do you like about dancing? no one but you can make the choice for you. you need to decide what you like better. both require intense practice, hard work, and passion.

and keep in mind, if you dont like one, there is always next year to try the other :]]

What NFL teams do not have cheerleaders, and why?

1 team has cheerleaders- the Green Bay Packers and the rest do not have cheerleaders.Contrary to other answers here - the is only 1 team that actually has cheerleaders that I know of. I’m also being picky about the definition of a “cheerleader” What you see on the sidelines at a Cowboys or Dolphins game is a dance team. They call themselves “cheerleaders” but you’ll rarely see them doing any leading of cheers. They might throw out T-Shirts or something but they are dancing with pom-poms and not cheer leading. The Green Bay Packers do have cheerleaders. As far as i know they are actually the only team in the NFL with “Cheerleaders” They lead cheers with signs and stunt pyramids like you might find at any high school football game in the country. You can maybe nitpick this a little bit - the cheerleaders you see at Lambeau Field are actually cheerleaders from UW-Green Bay and St. Norbert’s College. They are a real cheer team, but they don’t belong to the packers. You can see their uniforms below. This is a cheer team. I won’t post pictures of the dance teams, you have the internet and this answer doesn’t need the skin.Photos are from Google - Search: Packers Cheerleaders

Is there such a thing as a beginner competitive cheer team?

Yes, a level 1 team is considered as a beginner competitive cheer team since it's the easiest level in cheerleading. But most people who are in level 1 usually have at least 1 year of experience in a competition preparing team before going to level 1 and start competing. I am a coach to a level 1 team and many of the girls have level 2 skills but are in a level 1 team. Level 1 is preparation to the more advanced levels since it contains a lot of technique especially in the gymnastic and it's very slow and has to be controlled when performing it. So honestly the level 1 teams barely feel like a beginner team to me, but it sure depends on how much skills the kids in the team has. My athletes is very advanced as a level 1 team but if the team was moved to level 2 it would probably be too hard for them to compete in. (a good example on a advanced level 1 team)

Am I too fat to fly in cheer?

it all depends on who's on the team, and who is able to base you. obviously, you could fly but it really depends on the coaches and your teammates. it doesn't make sense to have you in the air if there are smaller girls who are easier to lift and throw. however, you could try convincing your coach that you have the skill and flexibility to fly better than the others.
good luck!

edit: a girl on my high school team is about your height/weight and her bases complain, but then again the other flyers on my team are around 90-110 so it depends. last year, the varsity team flyers were all around your weight but they had bigger bases.
DON'T BE DISCOURAGED THOUGH WORK FOR IT YOU CAN DO IT! :D you're in sixth grade and you still have a few years to grow/improve/work towards becoming a flyer!

Is it okay to join a sport team when you never play that sport?

High school is a good time to try something new. If you have some athletic ability, depending on the sport, you at least have a chance of making the junior varsity. It’s also a matter of the competition in that sport at your school. Some schools have very competitive teams in certain sports and joining that team might not be an option if you never played before. But some less popular sports are sometimes starving for players and with good coaching you might be able to make your varsity.Track can be an option if you are fairly athletic. How many kids grow up throwing a shot put, pole vaulting and javelin throwing? Not many. Most learn those sports in high school. If you are naturally fast, you may find some success in the running disciplines. Volleyball is a good choice because it isn’t super popular in many schools and many players were probably in the same boat as you, beginners at first. Tennis and softball, along with soccer and basketball might be harder to play if you have never played the game before, because most of the players have extensive experience in them before high school. It is always OK to try. If you don’t try you will never know, but pick the right sport if you want to make the team and play. Worst case you will be cut and right were you are now. More likely you will get a uniform and sit at the end of the JV bench. Just being part of a team is rewarding even if you don’t get to play much. But if you practice and you are willing to work hard at the game, who knows what will happen. I know a girl who never pole vaulted in her life before her Sophomore year in high school. By the time she was a senior she was being recruited by D1 college teams. Another who never played volleyball until she was a freshman and wound up playing volleyball in college. That is unlikely to happen in the more popular sports, but in the niche sports there are many possibilities.
