Can I Keep An African Dwarf Frog In My Lizards Water Area

African Dwarf Frog- How long can they hold their breath?

I read on yahoo answers that these frogs can hold their breath anywhere from 10-15 minutes. I've been watching my frog for 30-40 minutes now and it hasn't went to the surface to breathe. How long can these frogs hold there breath for? I forgot to add that it is not dead. Thank you!

How do i know if my African dwarf frog is sick?

I have 2 Under water African Dwarf frogs. I've had them for about a year now. I have had many had many animals my lifetime. I've had cats, dogs, turtles, bunnies, hermit crabs, lizards, mice and fish. I've never had frogs before. So this is a new experience for me. I am very paranoid. I really don't know much about them except for what I have read. I had one that was very small and looked like he didn't eat much. The other one GREW so much faster and so much larger than the other one. So I went to the place I got them from and they said try feeding them either separately or a little more and try Krill. So I did that, and it worked. Now, here is my problem. I noticed the other day that the one frog who was smaller is doing a twitching like motion, kind of looks like he's having a seizure. His legs have been stretched out for a few days now and his belly looks a little lumpy. I called the store where I got them and they said that their behavior was normal. It is just concerning me. Do you think he swallowed a rock? I don't think he did, considering the rocks aren't too small but they aren't too huge either. The people at the pet store said the rocks would be fine because they use the same ones in their fish tank. I do not know what to do. I am an animal lover of all kinds of animals. Please can someone help me!

African dwarf frog cloudy eyes?

Generally speaking, cloudy eyes are a symptom of a bacterial infection. Is he eating alright? Is he as active as normal? If not, it could be an infection. African dwarf frogs are very sensitive to many fish medications, many are actually toxic to them. However, Maracyn 2 has been successfully used for treating african dwarf frogs without it harming them. I would quarantine the frog if it is in an aquarium with other fish or frogs when giving the treatment. Follow the directions on the package. I would do a water change daily when treating the frog so as not to overdose.
Here is a great website on some dwarf frog diseases and treatments.

Can african dwarf frog lay eggs without mateing?

no first off u need to know if ur frog is a boy or a girl if its a girl it needs to be fertilized by the male to lay live eggs that will eventually hatch into tadpoles

Are African Dwarf Frogs OK with bubbles in a tank?

These frogs do better without airstones. Because these frogs don't "breathe" the oxygen in the water, they have lungs as we do, there are actual instances where the water becomes over oxidized and can cause them to become sick. Here is a website that information on gas bubble disease in aquatic frogs.

It is a website for Clawed frogs but this pertains to African Dwarf frogs too. And contrary to what the other person who responded to your question had said, these frogs do not need a dry area to come out of the water. These frogs are fully aquatic and never leave the water. I have two of them myself at the moment and they live in a 5 gallon aquarium and have never left the water. I have had them for 3 years and going strong.

Does your tank have a filter? I would recommend one if not, these frogs do like a little water movement. They do come from the Congo river in Africa so they are used to some gentle water flow. This will also help you with keeping the water clean. They are very susceptible to disease if the water is not kept clean. I hope this info helps you.

Help! my african dwarf frog is missing his hand :( will he be ok?

If your frog survives the initial shock and the potential infections resulting from the injury, then he can live a perfectly normal life. There are lots of cases of full-grown ACFs that lost a limb in their youth. If your frog is in with fish you need to remove him until he heals and if you think the fish are the culprits you might need to move your frog permanently.

Turtles, frogs, lizards, etc?

All frogs need to eat live crickets with the exception of aquatic frogs such as the African Clawed Frog or the African Dwarf Frog which will eat pellets, shrimp, and worms. There are a few lizards which are vegetarian/frugivorous (fruit-eaters). Most notable are the Rhacodactylus geckos which do not require UVB lighting or heating when temperatures are between 65-82 degrees in the house. The Crested Gecko is the most common and can subsist solely on a diet of Crested Gecko Diet, which is a multivitamin powder which you add water to. It has all the necessary vitamins and most breeders use just this rather than live insects. Gargoyle Geckos are cousins of Crested Geckos and also eat CGD.

What is the difference between a fish and frog?

Fish have swim bladders which allow them to float and maintain buoyancy, frogs are amphibians and are a separate classification entirely, as well as skin which they breathe through similar to how fish have gills to breathe/filter oxygen. Different animals entirely.

How long can amphibians stay underwater? What can affect this?

The short answer is, it depends on the amphibian. With most amphibians, level of activity while under water will shorten the amount of time they can remain submerged before needing to surface for air, as muscle activity uses up more blood oxygen. The good answer is, amphibian isn't an individual species of animal. Let's look at frogs, tortoises and alligators. All are amphibians, but their behavior is very different when it comes to their relationship with water. The gator, an amphibious predator, usually holds it's breath under water usually no more than 15 minutes at a time. They often leave the water to regulate their body temperatures for the purpose of digestion. They also lay their eggs on land, and occasionally hunt on land. The sea turtle on the other hand, while amphibious, will only ever touch land to lay it's eggs. They spend their entire life, otherwise, out at sea. They still breathe air, but they typically hold their breath anywhere between 4 and 7 hours! The frog though, well, almost all frogs and toads are capable of breathing under water. They do this by absorbing oxygen through their skin. Even though they CAN breathe underwater (or in thick mud when they hibernate) toads and frogs live in many different climates, some warmer, some colder, some dryer, others more humid and have an incredible variety of methods in which they mate, lay their eggs, feed and live their lives, with various degrees of dependence upon water. Yet they can stay under indefinitely, if need be.
