Can I Live With My Girlfriend If Shes In The Military

Once i enlist in the army when can my girlfriend live with me?

If things haven't changed since I was in basic/AIT (I was National Guard from 90-92 before I went Navy)

Anyway we had a few phone privileges during basic. You can call her then. If I remember right we got to call home on Sunday afternoons sometimes.

AIT was more easy to call home. We could call home anytime after class if we weren't doing any other military training or duty. We did have to live in the barracks.

Most unmarried junior people have to live in the barracks. You don't usually get permission to live off base until at least E4 but usually E5. (I was allowed to move off base as an E4...but it was because the barracks were full and I put a special request to move out.)

Most basic/AIT training takes about 6 months. After that you have a lot more freedom, but there is no guarantee that you can move off post and receive a housing allowance. Some people move off base and pay for it out of pocket...but that is not always wise. Some commands have curfew for junior folks and you will have to be back on base at a certain time.

It will be at the very least 6 months before you can live together. But that will really depend on the command. It can take much longer. If you get married then you have a better chance of living together.

Should I join the military if my girlfriend is pregnant?

I've always wanted to join the military since I was a little kid. I'm now 20 years old and I just found out my girlfriend was pregnant. I haven't joined yet because I thought I'd go to my community college for a few years and join later on if I was still up to it. Now, with a baby on the way I feel like now is the time to do it if I'm going to. Please don't misinterpret where I'm going with this. I'm not trying to run away from my responsibility as a Father. I simply want the best for my child. I do not come from a financially stable family, so putting the burden on them and continuing school is no longer an option at this point. I either get a dead end job (pretty difficult in my town of skyrocketing unemployment), or join the military and make the best of everything so that I can have a home for him/her and they have someone to be proud of and feel secure with instead of being a deadbeat dad. I refuse to be that guy. So if anyone in the military or vets, or just anyone in general have some insight about this situation it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I am a war veteran. What should I do when my girlfriend wants to break up with me saying that she can't live with a person who has taken a life?

You should probably help her move on. I served in Iraq with the US Marines. During that time I was married for the first four of mine and my wife's thus far ten year marriage. She's a good woman. She supported me and the decisions I made during that time and helped me ease back to the real world after Iraq. Someone who wants to be in a relationship with a veteran has to be able to understand and be supportive in some regards that regular people just don't have to deal with. They have to understand that there are fundamental beliefs you have had, and experiences that taken place in your life what make you very unique. It is part of the deal if they want to have a relationship with you. We can't choose the parts of people we want to be with. Frankly, A woman who can't deal with you for being you and for going through what is one of the most mindbreakingly difficult things in the realm of human experience while only thinking of her own self-centered discomfort is not worth the effort to have a relationship. Your girlfriend isn't a good woman. She's immature, selfish, naive and a bit worthless in my opinion.  Killing is a difficult human trauma. You will need support, not judgement. Don't accept people telling you that you should have to accept her opinion and stay with her because she has a right to it. You don't deserve the guilt she is putting on you and shouldn't be required to be with someone like that in the first place. That someone would say you deserve it because it's part of the sacrifice you made for your country is mindbogglingly insensitive and ludicrous. The idea that you aren't "selling yourself correctly" is simply asinine. You deserve to be with a woman who loves you and all of you. This girl isn't the one. If your history in the military, namely what you suffered, things that are now a very important part of your identity, are simply parts of you she doesn't want to be with than you shouldn't be with her. The fact that she is thinking more about herself than you in this situation where the person you need to be with would be a better human being about it. There are lots of other girls. Show her the door and keep you eyes open for a better one.

Can your girlfriend live with you at your stationed base?

YES you have to be married for her to live with you .. she can't live with you in the barracks..but if you two were married u could get a house on base

Soon to be united states airforce can my girlfriend live with me on base when i get assigned?

Sorry. As a new airman, you'll be required to live in the dorms until you get married or get a line for SSgt. Most bases have a rule that if dorm occupancy reaches 90%, then they'll let SrA live off base. However, most (not all) bases will allow you get on the base housing list within 30 days of your wedding date, providing you have a marriage license already. I have known some airmen in the same boat as you that actually have an off base apartment, but they don't get BAH for it and their still expected to maintain their dorm room. Some first sergeants won't allow airmen to even do that. All depends on the base and unit you get assigned to.

Any more questions, just email my yahoo account.

Good luck and welcome to the world's best Air Force!!!
