Can I Play Defensive Tackle I 6

I'm 5'9 and 13 years old. I want to play defensive tackle in the NFL what should I work on?

Buddy, if you're almost my height (5′10) at 13 then you have the capability of playing almost any position. It honestly depends on your weight, the weight and statures of your parents (For example: My mom is 5′3 and relatively skinny at 125 whereas my father is a well built 6′1 I think and somewhere around 245) as well as your current stature. You're only 13 and you've still got plenty of growing to do. You could be one of the heaviest for your age but a few years from now that fat turns into mostly muscle. If you're skinny right now, it's highly unlikely you are going to gain a lot of weight in a healthy way. If that's the case, Defensive tackle is not the best idea as those are generally reserved for the thicker players who weighs more than average players. If you've got good hands and speed (anything below a 5.10 40 dash) I recommend Tight end or Defensive end as those are less labor intensive than Defensive tackle and require more smarts and quickness than brute strength. On the other hand, if you're one of the biggest and strongest of your age group, I definitely recommend going in as DT. Whatever happens, I want to know! Any other questions just ask, I've played almost every position so I have quite an extensive knowledge.Edit: I just realized you asked what you could work on, I partially answered it by pointing out which body types for which positions, but if you're dead set on DT then there are ways to improve now. First of all, work on your strength more than anything else. Good speed is a plus, however strength is generally more useful for a DT. Second, work on your hands. These linemen work on quickness of the hands from day one, and you should as well. And finally, work on getting bigger! Unhealthy weight is never good, and in fact will actually hinder your game. Work on keeping your BMI at a good level and eat healthy. A healthy diet goes a long way, and the best of athletes eat in a healthy way (Unless you're Chad “Ochocinco" Johnson, however he may have achieved more if he actually ate healthy) and you will definitely notice the difference. If you're truly dedicated, work every single day towards it with no days off. Remember, a mental workout such as videos on technique is just as effective as physical workouts!

Can you play as a defensive end if you are skinny?

How skinny is skinny? Are you tall? Are you athletic? How are your feet? What level football are we talking about? For lower levels of football, your size may or may not be as much an issue depending on the competition. However as you mature, if you are still small, you will become easy to block without a lot of skill. Even a highly skilled person who has strength would have a difficult time gaining a ton of ground on a 6′5″ 310 lb NFL offensive tackle, much less a person without much weight to back up their skill set.Height can help to an extent. Longer levers can create leverage as well as block perimeter passes and obstruct QB’s passing lanes and vision. But basic skinny is going to be tough.

How tall do you have to be to play defensive line in college?

I'll be honest with you, I've never played pro ball or college ball for that matter but what I can tell you is this, hard work pays over all. There are countless stories of naturally gifted athletes not making it big because they never paid the price of hard work , you've probably never heard of Kyle Prater, Jeff Luc or Darious White, they were all 5 star athletes coming out of high school apparently the cream of the crop in 2011, and 4 years later never made it big in college and are not playing in the NFL. I have bet you've heard of Clay Matthews, Jordy Nelson, JJ Watt and Edelman, 3 of thsoe guys are walk ons Edelman was an "undersized" (5'8 your height!) college QB turned receiver and punt returner, all those guys worked their tails off to get to the highest level of their game and are considered successful. So there is no true "hight limit" to playing college ball sure it would help if you were 6'4 but if you can hang with the big boys at age 13 and put in hard work you don't worry about anything else your talent will speak for itself.

Should i play defensive tackle or defensive end?

I'm a sophomore, i'm 6'0" and 195 lbs. my bench is 230, and my leg press is 600. i played end and tackle this year, im strong enough to push almost every o-lineman into the backfield, also fast enough to chase down some running backs and get past o-lineman

Defensive lineman staying low?

I'm a sophomore in HS going into my junior year.

I play nose tackle, am 6'3 and weight about 290lbs.
I squat 405
Bench 265
Hang Clean 225

Easily my biggest problem is that I come straight up when the ball is snapped. When I do get low I can usually drive the offensive lineman off the line.

Are there any exercises or drills that I can do that would help me in staying in good position?

Thanks

Im 15 years old , 6 feet tall, and 170 pounds I play Defensive end for my highschool football team.?

I also play tight end but im one of the fastest kids on the team and I have chased running backs all the way down the football field to make the tackle. Should i go out for running back because during practice i have gotten the ball and averaged around eight to ten yards each run and trucked kids/broken tackles. Should i tryout for running back/fullback or stay a defensive end this upcoming season?

What's the average size of an NFL nose tackle/ defensive tackle?

I am 15 years old and have been playing football for about a year on the D-line. at 6'3 and 260lbs, I will be playing O-guard, O-tackle , and. Nose-tackle. My tallest uncle is 6'8 and shortest is 6'4 and my dr. says I'm not done growing. Would it be better for me to focus on O-line or D-line?

How much should a defensive end weigh?

For starters, at 6'3 you have an ideal height to play defensive end. Since your only 15 i woulndn't recommend to much weightlifting because your body hasn't fully matured yet, but it's close. Right now, I would say between 200-225 would be a good weight becuase your still light enough to be a pass rusher, but big enough against the JV lineman to go head up with you. Once you get to be between 16 and 17, probably grown one or two more inches, and play varisty, then you'll need to start bulking up if you wish to play at the DE poisition. between 6'3 and 6'6 which youll be, 260-285 is where youll want to be depending on if you want to be a speed rusher or or a bull rusher. Also, another good idea would be if you don't grow a lot anymore, and want to stay a reasonable weight, switch to Linebacker. A't 6'3 240-255 would be the perfect Middle or weak side linebacker if your fast enough and strong enough.
Just remember that you need to build up strength and endurance to play any position, and while weight is important when going up against bigger guys, technique, strength, leverage, and preparation can be out brute strength.

Undersized Defensive End?

Personally, I believe you could benefit from a position change... Based upon your height, weight, as well as your impressive maxes, I believe you would make a very good fit a defensive tackle... Your size gives you the potential to be an elite high school varsity defensive end....

My best advice for you this (and every) summer is to work hard and perform very well in practice... In addition , you need to eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, an either. Jogging or going for a long run everyday.. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, and in better shape, which will greatly increase your chances of becoming a successful, top notch high school varsity defensive end, who may go on to play college football....

By the way, your chances of playing college football depend on your performance during your senior year of high school... If you perform very well during your senior year of high school you will greatly improve your chances of getting recruited to play for a college football program... Good luck....

I play football for my school im 6'1 180 lbs play defensive end im looking to play in college should I be olb?

You'll play where your future coach decides you should play. That's if, and that's a big if, you got chosen to play college football. 180 lbs is way too small to play de in college, and horribly undersized for lb.If you want to play college fb, maybe you should try out as a safety. Or, put on 50 lbs of muscle and try out for lb. Good luck!
