Can I Put Light Truck Tires On Mini Van

What do the numbers in a truck tire size mean?

Okay the info on aspect ratio is pretty much correct. You get the general idea of the fact that it determines the height or overall diameter of the tire.

A 265/75/R16 tire can be found in a P-metric version (4 ply rated) as well as 6,8, and 10 ply rated versions. The 265/70/R16 is a P-rated tire.

Your Dodge came with a P rated tire from the factory. While it is always recommended to replace tires with the same size and specification tire as the one that was original equipment that it not always what happens. Some people want bigger, more aggressive, heavier ply rating, etc. The major concern is that you don't put a tire on your vehicle that is not capable of handling the load of the vehicle.

The factory P265/75/R16 tire on your pickup had a max load capacity of 2600 lbs. and an overall diameter of approximately 31.5".

The P265/70/R16 tire has a max load capacity of 2470 lbs. and an overall diameter of approximately 30.5 inches.

I would recommend not changing tire sizes on your truck unless you are up sizing or increasing the ply rating. You definitely should not go down in size and load capacity!

Can you put truck tires on a sedan?

You can put your ten speed tires on it if you have the skills, the motivation, and the resources. Does that mean you should? Not likely. Why would you want to do such a thing? What outcome do you hope to achieve? Do you know how to measure wheelbase, wheel offset, tire circumference, final drive ratio. You’ll also need to know how to set the castor, camber, and toe in, otherwise known as an alignment. You’ll spend thousands of dollars to build something that has next to no value. If you still want to proceed go for it

Why do many semi trucks have spikes on the side of their front tires?

Interesting story - I don’t drive a truck or work in the industry so what I saw doesn’t refute the fact that the vast majority of these are for decoration. However, I have personally seen one case where the spikes were real. Maybe the driver had them custom made at a machine shop, I don’t know.In stop and go traffic waiting to get into Canada, I watched a merging Saturn try to bully his way in front of an 18 wheeler that had spikes on the front wheel lugs. The spikes looked just like the ones pictured in this thread. I was about 4 cars back and had a perfectly clear view of what happened. With all lanes of traffic stopped, rather than wait for an opening (everyone else had been waiting for probably 30 minutes), Mr. Saturn decided to just force himself into the lane in front of the truck. He would nudge in bit by bit each time the car in front of the truck inched forward. This tactic, while incredibly annoying and inconsiderate, probably would have worked if he was edging in front of a car or SUV but note that he was approaching from the passenger side of a semi. Some types of trucks do not have good visibility of their passenger front corner and a Saturn is a pretty low car. I watched this for several minutes, inch by inch thinking that eventually the Saturn would realize this was a terrible idea, especially in a car with plastic body panels.Eventually the truck driver, likely not even seeing that this moron had placed himself in such a stupid position, moved forward a couple feet and I watched with glee as the spikes dug into the Saturn’s left front, making circular grooves like cat claws, slamming the front of the car to the ground then literally just shredded the front fender. 100% pure, crystallized poetic justice. The only downside being that the poor truck driver had to stop and deal with this moron.

How long does it take to put new tires on a car?

A set of tires? It depends on vehicle and the methods employed by the installers. In simpler times (read the 90’s) I was able to install a set of tires from the time the vehicle left the ground to the time it touched the ground in about 10–15 minutes. These days it takes considerably longer.Back then tires were both smaller and I didn't have to bother with cleaning hubs and the inner mounting flange of the wheel, or worry about TPMS sensors or resetting the TPMS system. Most wheels were steel back then rather than aluminum.Back then a tire was considered balanced when it had less than 10 grams of imbalance. Today its 5–7 grams of imbalance (you also didn't have to worry about uncoupled balance. Today you do)Front start to finish an hour today is a reasonable amount of time to purchase a set of tires and have them installed provided the installer isn't too busy. In that hour this allows the installer toPull the vehicle in and properly lift it.Scan the TPMS system if required and diagnose any problems.Disassemble the vehicle and inspect for defective and worn components as well as clean the wheel and hub mating surfaces and fasteners.Dismount the tires and in the case of a direct TPMS system with a wheel mounted sensor, remove the sensor from the wheel and replace all the soft and wear items (sensor nut, valve core, any gaskets)Remount the sensor and mount the new tires then balance the wheel/tire assembly to within 4–7 gramsInstall the wheels back onto the vehicle by hand or with a torque limited impact wrench and torque the fastening system to spec as well as making sure the tires were pressurized to spec including the spare.Initialize and calibrate the TPMS system if required. Also if the vehicle uses nitrogen you have to fill, purge and fill the each tire to reach a level of nitrogen purity required for it to be effective.

Tire and Wheel Diameter

P225/50R16 91S

The 16 indicates the tire and wheel diameter designed to be matched together.

Tires that have a rim diameter expressed in inches (P225/50R16, as well as 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 26 and 28) are called "inch rim" sizes, are the most common type of tire size and are used on most cars, minivans, vans, sport utility vehicles and light duty light trucks.

While not as common, two additional "unique" types of tire/wheel diameters are still in use today.

Tires and wheels that have a rim diameter expressed in "half" inches (8.00R16.5LT, as well as, 14.5, 15.5, 17.5 and 19.5) are used on some heavy-duty trailers, heavy-duty light trucks and box vans.
