Can I Put This On My Future College Application

Would taking the JLPT look good on my college application?

It depends on the college and the major. If you have N2 or N1, it will definitely mean that you can use that to get out of your college foreign language requirement. Some colleges will also give you credit for the classes you would have had to take. If you are looking at a major like teaching Japanese, it will probably be invaluable, if not required. However, for general college admission, no, it doesn't help. Most people outside of the Japanese learner community don't know what it is. Even my Japanese co-workers call it the Nihongo Kentei because they have never really heard of the JLPT.

What if i have nothing to put on my college application?

Im a junior and ive been really worried about colleges and my future. Im afraid that i wont get into a good college because i don't really have anything to put on my application. I havent played any sports, some clubs here and there but nothing i committed to. Im going to try out for a play but theres no guarantee ill make it. What do i do? What do i put on my application?

Can I list future extracurriculars on a college application?

Being selected as a member of your country’s IMO team is an Honor and should be listed as an Honor that has been bestowed upon you. However, academic Olympics are Not extracurricular. What is extracurricular is if you Started and Led a competitive math team for your high school and even assisted in arranging for the league for the teams to compete in.But merely to take tests in mathematics and then to be added to the team is an extension of the curriculum and therefore not extracurricular. One would Assume that your mathematics teacher, who is writing a letter of recommendation for you, will mention your mathematical prowess and confirm your selection to the team.If it isn’t mentioned in a letter of recommendation, then it probably is not important.

Modeling? College Applications? Help please!?

Can you please help me with this?

(btw, we're in high school:) Yesterday I was hanging out with my friend, who's a full-time model. I'm actually prettier than she is, and she told me to become a model. I told her that I didn't want to, but she said it wouldn't interfere with my studies and all, and it would look good on a college application.

Is this true? I heard that some colleges are really conservative. I really want to make it to Yale, and I want to maximize my chances into entering. So... would modeling help me? (And it's not like I'm stupid, either. I'm from a top 10 public school, have perfect 5.0's, have gotten into Carnegie Hall multiple times, have been awarded writing awards from all over the world--- in the district, state, nation and ranked #2 in the world once :), have been to Austria to perform with my orchestra to compete against the best orchestras in the world, if you look up my name on google everything on the 1st page will be about me, i took the SATS in 8th grade and I recieved a 2200... 8TH grade!!!! etc. etc., no bluff) But I'm really... unsophisticated, I guess? Reckless? Naive? I guess you guys can kind of tell from the way I'm typing right now...

SO, do you think modeling would be good for my future? Also, even if Yale might approve, do you think that, career-wise, this would be a mistake?

Thank you so much! :) (please no mean comments)

I got a detention for cheating. Will that affect my college application/life?

Do you have to self-report negative information on your college application? No. Will the school include it as part of your transcript? If it does, then you may need to address it in the Additional Information Section of the Common Application. You will need to acknowledge that what you did was wrong and that you have learned from your mistake that when you cheat, you basically cheat yourself. And you should indicate that you have no intention of repeating this mistake. But first establish if the school will report it as part of your official transcript before you draw attention to it.

Do all college application essays have to be in mla format?

No, admissions essays do not require citation. :) Citation is usually for formal academic papers, not basic essays.

If you are quoting or paraphrasing someone in your essay, you can simply do an informal in-text citation. For example, you might say:

- "Mother Teresa once said that '[h]umility is the mother of all virtues; purity, charity and obedience.'"

- "As President John F. Kennedy implored, we must determine how we can serve others before we worry about how to gain for ourselves."

That's all. :) Nothing major. I don't think I ever saw an admissions essay with MLA format, or any other formal citations for that matter, and I know I certainly didn't use them. Essays are supposed to be largely about you and what you think, so it's not really appropriate to include them. You really only need them if you're being asked to submit a formal writing sample from your schoolwork, in which case, yes, you should include the appropriate citation format.

Good luck!

Does working a Kumon look good on a college application?

It might. I know that a lot of people that I mention Kumon to, they have no idea what it is. So even though you put it down, the people looking over your application may not know what it is.

In my opinion, I do not think that it would matter that much since you are not directly helping the kids. Kumon is a self-learning center and although the kids may get help if they are needed, the correct way to help them is by referring them back to the examples.

Most of the people who work at Kumon just grade work. This means that you are not really helping them. If your position is different, then that may change things.

Include future college on resume?

I just graduated high school and I am wondering if I should include the college I am going to in the fall and my major? Especially wondering if I should include my major (Web Information Technology) on my resume when appying to stores like Best Buy, Office Max, ect. I am trying hard to get a job where I will be around electronics..but if I apply to a non-electronics store should I leave it out for sure???

Should I fill all 10 Common Application slots for extracurriculars?

Ask yourself a few questions about each entry you are considering making in the extracurricular section:Is this a significant activity to which I devote(d) a substantial amount of time?Have I attained a leadership position, won a significant award/ certification or competition connected to this activity?Did I create / develop something new?Did I initiate a project / learning opportunity / organization? If the entry fulfils the first criterion ( significance & time commitment) and also one of the following three (or a similar ) criterion, list it. Otherwise, don’t. Very few applicants will have 10 activities all of which merit inclusion. Mere membership in a garden-variety club at your school probably doesn’t enhance your application; mentioning several such affiliations is likely to be viewed as “padding” your application.
