Can I Register Two Home Addresses With The Ny Dmv.

Can military register their car in their home state?

Yes but it is a real pain to send all the paperwork back and forth and get tags etc... mailed to you from your home state.

It is easier to just register it where you live now and if you move next year or sometime re register it in the state you move to.

I was in the military for 6 years and I only kept my cars registered in my home state two years of it and it became a pain so I just registered them where I was stationed it was so much easier than all the bs you have to go through to register an out of state car.

Does a bank statement work for the DMV proof of address?

I'm gonna try to get my license on Friday and I absolutely cannot reschedule. The only thing that gets sent to me in mail is my bank statement, will this work as proof of adress? and also if you know what kind of insurance info do I need to bring? I live in Oregon.

When is it legal to have an out of state address on a different states license?

Your driver’s license should have your in-state address on it, as far as I am aware. I am not aware of any state driver’s licenses which allow you to list an out-of-state address. However, I am far from an expert on driver’s license law and I could be wrong as a result. When I was in law school I was in Delaware, but my legal address was at my parent’s house in Pennsylvania. As a result, I maintained a Pennsylvania driver’s license and the address listed was their address. Once I graduated law school, I had my own residence, that is my parent’s residence was no longer my legal residence, and changed my address accordingly. I happened to live in Pennsylvania, so I did not need a new license, just a change of address form. If I had moved to a different state, I would have needed a new license.I would suggest you check with the DMV about what you should do, if the wrong address is on your license. You probably can just do a change of address form.

Can a PO box be a legal business address in the US?

For tax reporting purposes in most cases a P O Box can be a legal address. There are a few IRS forms that specifically prohibit the use of a P O Box and in those cases you would need to have a physical address that you can use.Legal purposes, every state is going to require a physical address connected to an LLC. You have a registered agent with your Delaware LLC who is required to maintain a physical address in the state of Delaware. That probably serves your purposes, legally.Simply having a P O Box in a state will not constitute nexus or an obligation to pay taxes in the state.(**SEE UPDATE BELOW) The flip side of that is having a P O Box in another state does not allow you to avoid taxation in any state where you physically reside and work. Even if you reside in numerous locations through out the year with no real “permanent residence”.In fact not having a so called “permanent residence” can actually have some tax downsides. States can look at any number of factors to determine residency or partial year residency. For example if you maintain a California driver’s license or California voter registration, California considers you are a CA resident and subject to CA tax. If you spend one day working in CA, CA considers you at least a partial year resident and subject to CA tax. Also if you truly are itinerant, you can never deduct any business travel expenses.Having said all of that, CA is one state where I would not maintain a mailing address if you truly are not living and working there. I use CA for examples, because CA is by far one of the most aggressive states about claiming nexus and being able to tax you according to their state laws. Having a P O Box in the state will almost certainly guarantee a letter from the state wanting you to file a tax return in CA and pay tax in CA. Not that you could not ultimately win the argument, but I just hate for my clients to even get into a disagreement with any government agency because it incurs unnecessary cost even if you win.2018 UPDATE: As of 2018 several states have either enacted laws or changed their interpretation of existing nexus rules to say that a mailing address in their state does constitute nexus in the state. Most notability California, New York and Michigan are now taking this stand. My advice as of this writing is that you use a virtual mailing address or PO Box only in states where you reside or your business is registered as a legal entity.

If my residential address is in New Jersey, can I apply for New York State ID?

Wrong on all three (previous) counts. I have a NJ residential address and a NY state non-drivers ID, the latter being on the table in front of me right now. Many people require NY state non-driver ID as part of professional licensing for practice in NY (think of all those brokers licenses down at the Wall St end), so yes, you can get one. Just go along to your NY state DMV with your currnt ID (same points as for a regular NY drivers license) and submit your form. Instructions, forms and appointment booking are all on the dmv web site.

Can I register a car in CA with an out of state driver's license?

I’m going to try in a couple months, I’ll update if it works. Spoiler: odds are pretty good it will work.I disagree with Dan Wallander’s answer, he even links to California Car Registration Requirements & Steps | DMV.org, which is a great resource, but it doesn’t back up his claims. It says you have to provide ID when registering your car, but doesn’t say it has to be a CA issued ID. It doesn’t even say it has to be a drivers license so in theory you could just use your passport (idk this for sure, but I think I’ll try it). The site has a section on establishing residency and a separate section for registering a vehicle, but no where in the register vehicle section does it say you have to do the resident part first. If you still don’t believe me consider this scenario:What if I have a vacation house in CA? I’m a resident of another state and spend most the year there, but I want to have a car in CA so I can just fly in for vacation and have wheels to get around in? Obviously the CA car is not going to have plates from the other state because I’m well off enough that I just bought a nice car to go with my vacation house. And I can’t be bothered to drive it back to the other state just to register it and drive it back to CA, what a huge waste of time. This is not the scenario I’m in, but I imagine it’s not too unheard of since CA does have plenty of vacation worthy areas. And some very wealthy areas that contain the kind of people capable of this scenario.A police officer in CA can also pull you over if they repeatedly see you with out of state plates over the course of several weeks. CA wants the car you have in CA to be registered with them so they can collect the money for it using CA roads. Regardless of where your license is. Out-of-state license plates: California clamping down on drivers who avoid feesThere are also people from foreign countries that buy cars in the US to travel around in while they are here and then sell them when they leave. If you’re a member of AAA, use them, in CA they have the power to register vehicles. That’s not the case in every state, but it’s worth the membership even if just for the first year to save yourself the visit to a CA DMV, trust me.UPDATE: Today (11/22/16) I completed registration of a motorcycle in CA, but I kept my CO license. There was no issue. Please leave a comment or message me if you have any questions about what you need to do. The more details you can provide for your situation the more I can help.

Does your driver's license address have to match your vehicle registration address?

Does your driver's license address have to match your vehicle registration address? You are supposed to update your addresses on both your registrations and your driver’s license with the DMV when you move.In New Mexico, where I live, they do not issue new registrations or driver’s licenses for address changes, they just update them in the computer - or they are supposed to at least. When you get your next registration renewal and your next driver’s license, they will update the address on the forms. Check your DMV web site. There will be a form to fill out for address changes. This is why the officer will ask you for your current address at a traffic stop.

Will California DMV allow me to use a UPS Store mailbox address on my driver’s license? I plan to stay in Airbnb for a long term, and I’ve read that most places won’t allow a person to receive a mail there.

Are you renting a mailbox from there? Or where will you be receiving mail? I rent a mailbox and the address is classified as a business address instead of residential. So I can forward mail from wherever I came from, however, I can’t forward my mail from there to wherever I get mail afterwards.Otherwise, you can use just about any address. But California likes to have the bills they send go to the right person. They like to get paid without delay. The other complication is that some places won’t deliver packages to PO Boxes, but places that use the address and a unit # go under the radar for the most part.. I haven’t had an issue yet..I wouldn’t recommend randomly using a ups store - if you’re not actually planning on renting out a mailbox. They are not too expensive and sometimes they have specials. The place I use gave me 3 free months after I prepaid for 1 year.I was a victim of domestic violence and was told to use the police stations address for public record type of stuff, like my nursing license. It was surprising to me. I think he said I could do that with my drivers license as well. But I’m not 100% on that one.Good luck.
