What is it like to live in Shillong?
People were all talking about the positive side of living in shillong but let me tell you the negative side of the Shillong.Job's upportunity : job's opportunity in shillong are very rear, nearly 90% of government job are reserved for local tribes (Khasi, Garo and Pnar). There's very less industries, Start Up that provide numbers of job are nearly zero and very few MNC companies keep their office in the city. So finding a satisfaction job in shillong may be just a dream to many people.Roads problem: National highway 44 is the only highway that goes through the city but the numbers of vihecle increase YoY and no land to expand the road in the city create horrible traffic jams everyday (except Sunday). During rush hours it's better to walk than with your car.Can't buy a land, House etc : if you are not khasi you can't buy a house or a land. Owning apartment is also not an option since outsider can’t buy a land there's no real estate builder or a property apartment. You maybe a crore Patti but you'll have take rent to live in shillong.Effect of modern techniques: Most of the product available on gaint online store is not deliverable to Shillong. We didn't get to enjoy the advantages of offer given by Myntra called Tayar Raho India because Myntra didn't deliver their products to shillong during offer period (Sad but true)SLOW INTERNET CONNECTION: Most of the Telecom network in shillong are kinda bad. Just a mere 2MbPS WiFi will cost you ₹1750.00 per month and wire broadband is not famous here.There's no permanent club : You want to go clubbing ? Sorry bro, not today. We have to wait till weekend.Last but not the least very few good institution and things are costly here.
