How should I fix my headphones, that only play background sounds?
I had the same problem with my PHILIPS BASS+ earphones ,i found out that the jack was damaged and was subtracting left from right sounds of the earphones.I switched the sound settings from balanced to right/left and they are working fine now.
Do Turtle Beach headsets break easily?
I have them. If you want something that last and is worth it get Astro A30's or A40's. They look great and are light weight. I have X31's too and they've lasted since Christmas and are still good. I'd they have an awful battery life though. Astro's don't. Astro's are lightweight and TB's are medium. I'd definitely recommend Astro's. But TB's seem very durable and other then my battery problem and setting them up to talk I have no problems. Another option is Trittons. They are pretty heavyweight so they aren't the most comfortable. They do have a high bass (Not the fish. This bass sounds like base) and make you feel in the game. They have A LOT of cords and cables. So much in fact, they were banned from the MLG Pro Circuit. The Astro's have a few cords but not as many, plus they are the official headset of MLG. TB's have 3. When you buy TB's you get a little black box that basicly sends the sound to the headset. It has a cord that plugs into audio jacks in your TV (You'll understand) and one that plugs into a USB on your XBox. Then your headset has a cord that you can plug into your controller and TB. Astro's have the feature where you can change what side you want your mic on. Wow. I got way off track. But to fully answer your question, I have not had a problem with my TB's breaking. It's comfortable and they look OK but nothing great (I think Trittons and Astro's look way better). Also, with the X31's if your volumes high to hear someone, "Plant the bomb," on Call of Duty you can also change how loud your teammates talk. You can have it high or low. Very good feature. Do refurbished Turtle Beach headsets break easily?
Well iv had a few turtle beach headsets and everyone has broke and I have looked after them well. The bit of plastic were you adjust the size is flimsy and very breakable

If you had a 3d printer, you might be able to make a replacement part for the one that broke. But otherwise the best you could do is try taping it together with thick packing tape or the black electrical tape. I don't think you could bring it back as defective. Even if (as you say) you do not treat your equipment poorly, obviously something happened that cause it to snap. Maybe a brother or sister tugged on it when you were not there? Check the packaging from the headset and see what it says about replacement under warranty. If it is determined that there is a flaw in the design or it wore out prematurely, you might be able to get a replacement under the warranty program. But odds are good they will say the broken part was from "excessive use or misuse". If you can't make it "usable" again through the use of tape or some sort of plastic splint, you'll have to look at getting a replacement. And if convinced that you did not break it, it just fell apart on its own, then I'd say look at an alternate brand for the next one, maybe Logitech or Microsoft.

Check the "output device" and make sure it's not trying to send the audio elsewhere (such as apple tv). You should ideally see an option that says "headphones" on that list. Click it.If no luck..If you do not see headphones on the list described above, try a simple restart. That tends to get everything back to normal.
