Connecting DVR to Wireless internet?

There are wireless "gaming" adapters which can connect to ethernet ports and still access wireless routers. Like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DWL-G820-Wireless-Adapter-802-11g/dp/B0002MH3HE

I know it says Gaming Adapter, but it can be used in exactly the same way on your DVR, or anything with an ethernet port. It's just a method of delivering wireless internet through an ethernet port.

This doesn't require drivers BTW.

How can I connect my Dish DVR to the Internet ?

The easiest is to get an ethernet cable and connect the DVR to your home's internet router. Then tell the DVR to test its internet connection and the router will automatically configure the DVR's internet settings so it can access the internet.

If your router is too far from your DVR, it is possible to use a wifi adapter for the DVR. You'll have to check the DVR's manual (or Dish's website) to find out the exact model(s) that are supported.

Connecting DirecTV DVR to internet through my computer's Ethernet port (Sharing Internet)?

Okay, so I'm trying to connect my DirecTV DVR to the internet by connecting an Ethernet cable from the DVR to the Ethernet port on my PC. My PC is connected to my network wirelessly, and I have gone into the properties and turned "Allow Computers to Connect to the Internet Through This PC" on, however, my DVR will not connect.

Please don't say it's not possible, because it is, and I have done it before. That's the way I used to have my DVR set up a few months ago, but I disconnected it, as I didn't use it often, and needed the Ethernet cord for something else, but I decided that I'd like to enable it again, however, it's not working.

I'm not sure what I'm doing differently...the only thing that may be different is that I'm using a Static IP, however, I don't think that would affect it, and I've also tried without a Static IP and it still didn't work.

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, if that info is needed.

Thanks for any help!

Share media from DVR to laptop?

This may not be the thing you're looking for, but it's relevant. There's a device called SlingBox that can broadcast your TV/DVR/Satellite to any computer with internet access. No monthly fees, just the cost of the SlingBox.

Does a DVR need an internet connection to work?

Hi, DVR's are really great pieces of technology and do not need internet to operate. They are much better than VCR's as you have the ability to record and set timers faster and with greater ease. A Standard definition receiver will not be able to get you HD local programming. I would recommend upgrading to an HD DVR with DISH as they cost the same as SD receivers. You can then find out about the HD Free For Life promotion on your account. You would then get an equipment and programming upgrade. If you would like specific information pertaining to your account, please feel free to email me directly with your account or phone number and I can look into this for you. Thank you!
