How do you defrag a Windows Vista laptop computer?

Go to Start and search for Disk Defragmenter.Select Disk Defragmenter.Depending on whether or not you would like to schedule defragmentation on a regular basis, click Create Schedule or Modify Schedule; otherwise, select Defragment Disk.Disk defragmentation takes some time. Do not use your computer or modify files during defragmentation. I would also advise you not to let your computer go to sleep or hibernate during this process. You can modify these settings in Control Panel. Set "When the Computer Sleeps" to "Never."

Can Windows Vista be installed to A computer with Windows 10 and use the Vista when needed?

As far as I understand (not having done it) one can run a computer from an external flash drive. However, bear in mind that you cannot have two separate versions on a PC simultaneously able to run. Thus, you might have to setup BOTH versions on flash drives, and simply use the one needed as required. To be frank, I simply cannot imagine anything at all, that Vista execute more efficiently than Windows 10. Vista is fairly recent, and Windows 10 is built to handle all recent software from approximately; say; 2002 onward.A much better idea is to run whatever you are thinking of, within Windows 10. Then go to setup, type in ‘compatibility’, and it should not be too difficult to specify to run the specific software you wish to run, as Vista.

Why is my computer with Windows 7 having slow response?

Software and System PartUninstall unwanted software. Let’s be honest; there is so much junk on your computer that you never use. Go through and uninstall all that superfluous software. You’ll be surprised how much room is freed up.Clean Temp files/cache/unwanted old files. To clean all these junk files and system clutter is much easier with CCleaner, Neptune SystemCare .Clean and Defrag hard drive. Especially the C: Drive, you’d better clean the hard drive completely once a while.Hardware PartAdd an SSDAdding a Solid State Drive is a powerful way to speed up your old laptop. These days lots of new laptops come with SSDs, but if your computer is old enough you can get either internal or external ones. The external ones are simple; you just plug it in through a USB. Internal ones require you to open up the laptop and install it, but it is more powerful. Google to find out which is best for your computer, and see how to install on the YouTube.Add More RAMThis is the oldest trick in the book right. If you’ve got a laptop that allows you do so, adding RAM will majorly help your computer, but not for so long.

Will just disabling, not uninstalling, Mcafee make my computer run faster?

Do Not disable your anti-virus!
Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

How can I figure out what causes the constant computer crashes on my Windows Vista PC?

Open the Event ViewerGo to the System logFilter the entries looking for Critical and Error Event levelsGo through the remaining entries you are currently viewing to determine relevant information relating to the crashes you are experiencingBased on the information you have gleaned, narrow down the possible causes for the crashes and seek remedies based on this whether it is updating device drivers, patching software, looking up information on how to remediate security flaws that are no longer being patched for that operating system, etc.

My grandmother has a Windows Vista computer in her house that she only uses for web browsing and email. The problem is that since XP lost support, Vista is next and she is unlikely to want to pay to move to 7 and at 75, and will have difficulty using Windows 8. So my question is, what should I do?

If she doesn't have to do anything special and she uses it for web browsing and email only, I'd recommend Linux Xubuntu/Kubuntu/Lubuntu/Ubuntu, Mint or a Chromebook (which is Linux-based by the way).If she wants to stick with Windows, she can upgrade to Windows 7 that's much more stable and reliable than Vista. If she has no clue about touchscreen and tablets, keep her away from Windows 8.1. By the way, your grandma is smart if she won't pay to upgrade to another crappy system when she can have all she needs for free.At the most she could try an iPad, but in my opinion (though I love MacOSX as I own an iMac, by the way) it's a little overpriced.

How do you fix a slow and not responding Dell computer with Windows Vista?

Boot in safe mode and remove all the OEM bloatware along with the useless and outdated software manually or via PC decrapfier. Disable unneeded non-MS startup services and run a malware scan with something like Malwarebytes. You could always update all drivers, install the latest service pack and windows updates but I would strongly advise a fresh install of Windows. If the machine ran Vista it will most likely also have Windows seven or later drivers which makes it perfect for Windows 10. Not to mention that Vista itself is EOL and Windows 7 is no longer under mainstream support.

"How can I speed up my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop using Vista ?"?

I recently purchased a Dell VOSTRO 1400 for the organization that I work for. I had a Dell E1405 with a Core Duo processor and thought that by upgrading to VOSTRO's Core2 Duo 2.0 that I would increase video processing capabilities. I was apparently wrong. It doesn't perform any better than the E1405.

Is there anything that I can do to increase the performance on this machine when using multi-media presentation (projection) software? I have maxed out the RAM at 4G and have a 250G HD using Windows VISTA Home Premium.
