Can I Still Get Into A 4 Year University

Should i attend community college or a 4 year university?

You have already completed a year at the university. I see no real advantage to you transferring to a cc at this point. I believe it will put you behind. First, in the attempt to transfer your current credits to the cc, and then, when you attempt to transfer to a four year university.

If you'd started at the cc, it would be a different story. But you did not, and I'm afraid it will put you behind.

It also doesn't look great to grad schools if you have multiple transfers.

If your current university is of good quality, and you like it, I suggest you stay there. Rather than transfer to cc in an attempt to save money, instead, see if you can't take some classes at the cc this summer and transfer them back to your home university. In this way you get a bit ahead of where you are now at the university, and if you do this a couple of summers/winter breaks, perhaps you can graduate a semester or more early, which will save you money in the end. Speak to your academic advisor about this.

To lessen your debt, other things you can do include:
- Try to become a Resident Assistant (RA) at your university. At most schools, in exhange, they'll give you free room, and often a small stipend. That can really save you some money, and it looks good on a resume
- Try to take on a profession-related part-time job at school. For example, with your interest in justice, you could work security, or in the library, or with the English, do tutoring on campus.
- Speak to people in financial aid and ask about scholarships that you can apply for. A lot of those are merit based, not need based, and since you probably write well (English degree), you stand a good chance at getting something.
- Check any groups that you or your parents belong to, used to belong to, or could belong to due to ethnicity or etc. For example, even if they've never belonged, if you're Irish, check the Ancient Order of Hibernians and, if Catholic, the KOC for scholarships. Even if you cobble together a few, small scholarships, it can really help lessen the burden.

Community college or 4 year college?

I'm an international student from Brazil and I'd like so much to get into an Ivy league University, but becuase of my engIish, I didn't do good at the sat I, and even though I got a 4.1 GPA , I'm not good enough for an Ivy right now.
I'm interested in engineering, and I'd like to know if an Ivy league University prefer transfer students from CC's or other 4 year colleges?

Would I have a better chance to get into an Ivy after doing good in a good CC, U of Toronto, U of Denver or U of Miami?

I got one F freshman year, can I still get into a 4 year university?

I'm going to the 10th grade and I am really scared that my one bad grade is going to affect my entire college education! My dream is to go to a 4 year university but my bad grade in Biology might get in the way of that. Please Help!

Can I still go to a 4 year university after dropping out of high school?

Yes.  You can. The fact  that you continued with an online program after dropping out speaks to your drive, your perseverance.  Good things. I would advise trying first a Community College, perhaps nearby so you have the safety-net of friends, family, that you have now.  In a CC, in the U.S., anyhow, you will generally benefit from faculty who emphasize teaching over research; overall more personalized guidance, more individualized approaches to teaching and learning.  They may also be able to help you find a low-cost way to get counseling/help for your life issues (anxiety/depression). A CC will bestow an Associate's degree (generally considered a 2-yr degree). Once you have that, you have proven yourself:  apply to the college/university of your choice with confidence, for the final two years of a Bachelor's degree in your chosen area.  You will have lost nothing. 4-year institutions have all students taking very general courses for the first two years anyhow, and it is not until your final two years that you begin to specialize.  But, in many 4-yr institutions, your first 2 years MAY not be with faculty who are really interested in teaching (vs. research).  You MAY be put into a class with hundreds of students, getting NO individualized attention. I experienced both of the above at a world-class institution, so I do not speak lightly of this: there are times when a 4-yr institution is NOT the best choice.

If I did bad in high school, can I still go to university after community college?

Of course. There is always room for improvement. Just because you did bad in high school doesn't mean that you will continue to do poorly on academics. It doesn't have to be even a community college that you have to apply to, there are more than 5000 universities in US. Just apply to the ones that you like, if you get admitted well congrats in advance. However, do keep in mind that going to a community college for 2 years to get your associates degree would definitely help you to get into your top choice schools such as Harvard maybe? Especially if you do very good in community college, no one can stop you. Just keep something in mind, don't let anything distract you, I am assuming there was at least one factor that caused you to write this question here. So whether it is bullying, low income, family, friend, boy/girlfriend, don't and don't ever let anything distract you. Not to brag, I went to one of the top universities and I am currently in the top #10 med school in US. I think I am in this position right now because I never ever had a girlfriend to distract me, never had a bad friend, always had good relationship with my high school teachers/ professors, involved myself into many activities and community service along with internships. So just to keep it short, just dedicate yourself to education until you are 24, then live and eat the fruits that you deserved in your professional life.I wish you the best of professional careers out there:)

I have a 2.5 GPA in community college. Can I still transfer to a 4 year school?

College admissions depend on a number of things, but for transfer, GPA is going to be a big factor if you have completed 12 or more credits because you will be considered a transfer student. In this case the college won't look at your ACT/SAT score but rather things like GPA. Also, keep in mind, if your low GPA is based on having some grades lower than a C, those classes probably won't transfer even if you get accepted so you would have to re-take them. The best way to boost your GPA and avoid this issue would be to re-take a few classes in which you got low grades and get much higher grades the second time. You should probably start by visiting the college's webpages for admissions to see what the admissions requirements are and then apply if there isn't anything precluding you from doing so. Understand that with that GPA, you probably won't be accepted directly into one of the programs you mention without showing some additional success first.

Can i get into a 4 year college with an 80-83 average? NY?

By 80-83 average, if you mean a B- Average in classes, then yes. Colleges/Universities don't just look at your grades from your classes for entry into their school. They also look at SAT/ACT scores, extra-curricular activities, and other things, depending on the school. Good luck!

P.S. You might want to check out www.collegeboard.com to look up the requirements for entry into CUNY.

How credits transfer to 4-year colleges?

I'm going to transfer to a 4-year college next Spring from my community college before getting my A.S. degree. I want to know how credits transfer since I'm going to change my major.

What will happen to the credits in my current major if I change mine?

Does the matching credits and electives transfer together or just the matching credits?

Is it possible to reduce to sophmore or freshman if credits get lost?

Can transfer students from community colleges study aboard, do internships, be in preprofessional program, etc. in a 4-year college?

If I transfer and double major, will I delay graduation?

This fall will be my last semester, can I take more credits outside my major so they can transfer or just take courses in my major?

Thanks because I'm so desperate. There is few transfer information and they often don't answer my answers.

Can I still transfer even though my community college GPA is 1.7 at the second year?

Not a particularly good idea. Without seeing a transcript (and that should be done confidentially by a trained, qualified advisor) I would have to say no, but I’d also have to ask why it is so low. Your best bet might be to buckle down and apply yourself where you are.Go make an appointment with both an academic advisor and a counselor as soon as you can. Discuss why you are doing so poorly and ask for their feedback. An advisor can help you with an academic plan. A counselor can help you address issues where their particular expertise can apply, like for example do you have issues holding you back that can be addressed. All of us hit roadblocks at some time in our life. A below 2.0 GPA certainly applies, but it doesn’t mean you can’t push through it. Just don’t try and do it alone.
