Can I Still Get Into A Good College

Can you still go to a good college with a bad gpa?

Let me preface this by saying that I’m basing this off of what I’ve heard over the years regarding the college admissions process. I don’t have any direct experience because I don’t work in college admissions, and college admissions is different from place to place. It depends, but it makes things harder. Low GPAs are usually not a great thing to have on your application*. If a university, and especially a selective university, is going to accept you, one of the first points of consideration is going to be whether or not you’re capable of doing well in their academic environment. And by “do well,” I mean, will you be able to juggle academics as well as the many other obligations you will have. A low GPA is likely a red flag.If you have high test scores, sure it can vouch for your intellect (although it’s a bad measure by itself, in my opinion), but it can’t necessarily offset the low GPA. Maybe if there is some compelling justification for your low GPA (e.g. health related), but other than that, a strong GPA is a really important benchmark.*I’ll qualify this by saying: low GPAs relative to the GPAs of your classmates. GPAs can be calculated in a variety of ways.

Is a 1550 good SAT score with a GPA of 3.1 get me in a good college?

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm trying to bring up my SAT scores. From everything I've heard from people you can still get into a good school. Write an amazing admission essay. Check books out from the library about admission essays and sat tests books. You can definitly do better than community college. You're average is between a B and a B+.

I got a D in a class. Can I still get into a good college?

Hi, I am a junior in high school and I am looking to go to good universities like Michigan, UVA, UNC, colleges on that level. I received all A’s and a couple Bs, while taking 3-4 AP classes every year. The problem is, last year I got a D+ in Precalc (which I understand is my fault but we had an awful teacher and the class average was a C). I got a B in Ap Calc this year, and my GPA is around a 3.9-4 weighted. Can I still get into a good college?

Can you still get into a pretty good college with one D on your report card?

Yes, you are likely to get in because of your non-academic activities. Schools like to accept people who make them look good, and LOTS of community service and outside activities, and great leader skills will get you in.

However, that does not mean that the school will not pay attention to your GPA. If the school you are wanting to go to has a minimum accepted GPA, for example, my school requires at least a 3.0, and you have a 2.0, you will not get it except through a reconsideration process (this involves writing an appeal letter and getting more recommendations).

I am assuming that you are wanting to get into an Ivey League school? I am not attending one, but I transferred to a first tier school. I got a D freshman year, I still got in. I don't know how an Ivey League would react though. They probably look at your overall GPA and pay extra special attention to your major's GPA.

Good luck to you!

Can I still get into a good college without Geometry?

Provide your 8th grade transcript along with a letter from your middle school that you took Geometry equivalent to HS geometry(advanced placement) and passed with flying colors----assuming that is all true. If the geometry you took is NOT equivalent then you have to ask for relief from the requirement until you can prove you have the skill. Might mean summer school---6 week course at the college for example.

Can you still get into a good college without being in NHS?

Doing well in an AP class means so much more to colleges than being in an Honor Society. An AP class means that you challenged yourself with college level work- an Honor Society may mean that you simply filled your schedule with "easy A" electives.

That doesn't mean that honor society membership is useless; it means you had a high GPA. But the advantage of being in such societies can easily be evened out or outweighed by dedication to a volunteer organization (example: SPCA volunteer 2.5 years), being president or vice president of a club, or holding a part time job for a year.

The name NHS on your application won't attract colleges (especially since different high schools have different requirements- mine required a 3.5), but passion, commitment to an organization for several years, unique experiences like volunteering abroad, or challenging yourself and doing well with highly rigorous courses will.

Hope that helps!

Did you ever have bad grades and still get into a good college?

Yes, my grades weren't the best through high school. Admittedly I came out with a D on a couple report cards, and I'm not proud of that. But I did get a scholarship to an awesome college in Massachusetts. It did help that I play volleyball and I got a scholarship for that too. Butttt... some bad grades do not mean you wont be getting into college.

Can I Still Go To College if I failed 9th grade?

Ok I failed 9th grade last year not because im not smart enough to do the work. But because I was wrongly accused of selling someone an "illegal peice of a plant" is what I will call it and I missed my whole second semester because of it. So now im in 9th again and I must admit that im not making the best of grades I barley passed last semester. But I want know if next year my sophmore year if I make good grades untill I graduate will a college see i changed my ways and accept me? If your going to be an a** hole please dont answer my question but to those of you who can tell me the 411 on things I would greatly appreciate it.
