Can I join the Navy with bad credit?

junior enlisted pay SUCKS. if you go in as an E1 you will be making like $1400 a month( not counting BAH which will NOT alwasy cover your housing needs) you CANNOT proivide for a family that large on it. so unless she also works at least part time it will be a severe financial hardship especially at first.

bad credit can definitely affect your chances of enlisting. you can count on NOT being able to get any sort fo Clearance so that means many jobs will be closed to you. since the only jobs they need filled arer the ones that require a clearance it is very possible that no you will NOT be qualified to enlist at all right now.

also there is no such thing any more about enlisting and being guaranteed to stay in 20 years.. each term of enlistment you must apply to stay in under Perform to Serve.. and only the top Sailros get to stay in right now. if yoru credit has not improved you can be denied re enlistment.

Quite Frankly, people with 99 ASVAB scores and ZERO other issues.. medical, legal, financial, are being told there are no openings.. the average wait to ship out to RTC right now is 9-12 months. and that's AFTER 3-6 months of trying to get to MEPS to sign a contract.

Recruiter told me to lie?/scars at meps?

this is a 2 part question:

1. I am going to meps monday and and my recruiter told me to lie about everything in my medical history: childhood depression medications (i was on meds for a short time but never diagnosed), er visits (stitches in my chin from dirtbike accident no further problems), and basically everything else. I dont like to lie and i feel bad already and i havent even gone up there yet. i dont want to get into trouble down the road. but he said that they can only see what i give them and they dont have access to my civilian medical records unless i bring them up there with me.

2. i have about 5 scars on my forearm by my elbow that were unfortunately self inflicted from about 5 or 6 years ago. i have been using cream to fade them but they are visible if you look very closely. a friend of my dads who is in the army told me to say they were from a fence or a quad accident or something and stick my story and they wont say anything. i was never really a cutter it was a one time thing and that was it. will they disqualify me if they see them? i am scared if i lie and they dont believe me that they will check my records and even tho theres nothing in them htey will see depression and pdq me.

3. before you say i am not for military service i am more than ready mentally physically. as far as the "depression" meds, what do you expect a kid to do when there parents get divorced and your mother tells you your father doesnt love you and isnt coming home and then proceedsd to beat you every night? its only natural to be upset and she took that as depression which it wasnt. i wasnt young enough to not understand but at the same time i wasnt old enough to not care. i have not cut or thought about cutting since that one time and i am very ashamed that it even happened. i never talk about it. the navy is what i want more than anyhting in my life. I AM READY. but i am just concerned about what will happen at meps.

will they actually look for scars like that? if i make up a story will they argue with me? please give me some of your personal experiences from meps. i would appreciate it alot.

Recruiter told me to lie at MEPS...?

Before I went to MEPS my recruiter told me to say NO to every medical question that was asked...so I did... and everything went fine. I got in. But now I am about a week away from my ship date and I am getting really nervous about this. Has anyone else been in this situation? When I was young I broke both of my wrists & sprained my ankle. Nothing major but it still has me worried. What are the P-Days like at Navy boot camp? Is any of this likely to come up? Am I worried for nothing? Any answers will be helpful.

Do recruiters get paid for getting you to enlist?

Now I and probably everyone else has heard this rumor. And I never paid it much thought since it seemed like BS and most people I know in the military dispelled it (though I never heard a recruiter deny it, but I don't know any recruiters in my personal life, and I would no want to ask a recruiter I don't personally know.)
But the thing that got me skeptical is that I heard from a very reputable source that they do indeed get paid to get you to enlist and everything in your contract is subject to change and not to listen to anything they say. My uncle told me this (he enlisted in the mid 1950s in the Navy after dropping out of college and got his B.S., M.S. and PHD and MD while in the Navy and retired an Admiral). He told me recruiters will say anything to get you to sign up fast and they do get paid bonuses for each recruits they get. And he told me despite getting just about every degree known to man for free while in the Navy it was the worst mistake of his life and he just stayed in to get a high pension (I think he retired in the 90s) and that he only went to school so much to get away from doing military stuff since they were willing to pay you to get advanced degrees.
He also told me that half of the people you will be with are convicts who only had the option of military time or prison and that you have to worry more about your fellow shipmates than the enemy.

Is any of this true? or is he just trying to scare me out of joining the military? Or since he is retired so long ago is any of this relevant today?
I really want to join but most people I am related to who have joined various branches and even became lifers seem to hate it and basically just say they put up with it for the pension? It seems like a really good thing to do but I hear so many bad stories and not just from anti-war hippy type people, from people who were actually in the military?

Should i tell my recruiter of my DROPPED charge?

First of all, ignore those that are trying to tell you to keep quiet or that your record is "expunged". No such thing. That is only a legal term to give you a legal "clean slate" when you become an adult. Absolutely NOTHING in an arrest record is off-limits to the Military.

Be honest, tell them what happened and that the charges were dropped. They will find out anyways, and this is not going to affect you in the military.

I was arrested for petty theft (shoplifting - I did it) when I was 15, and that has had no effect on my military career, or even my getting a Secret clearance. Mostly what they look for is integrity, and if you are honest and up-front then this would not impact you at all.

However, lying about it and having it come back to bite you when the FBI does your background check (it is done on every potential recruit now) is a sure way to get an administrative drop and a permanent bar on ever enlisting in the military. That is because the military does not like fraudulent enlistments.

Added: If you look enough through Yahoo Answers, you will find a great many people complaining that they had just this happen to them. They did not disclose some minor incident, got booted and their contracted voided and a permanent ban on enlisting when it was discovered, and now they are whining that they are unable to join the military and if we can help them get that changed. I see 4 or 5 of these a week in here. If you doubt me, look for yourself. Most of the time it is petty theft, vandalism (tagging), and the like, things the military does not really care about as long as it was not a repeat pattern.

Do you feel you received everything that was promised when you were recruited for the military?

No I got ripped offI went in as an E2 but got paid for an E1.I was mislead to believe I was going to be a 37M (human intelligence collector) and the opportunity to go to Defense Language School which I tested for, eventually.I ended up settling for a 25B for computers which I had no interest in.I did this all for an education, but it backfired I was denied BAH because the home I lived in and helped pay for was my mother in law's house despite us paying most the bills. I had trouble enrolling my kids in TriCare I can't remember the exact issue.Needless to say I spent 24 hrs a day 7 days a week away from my family for $858 a month, only.I was getting bombarded with calls in AIT from my husband at the time that he couldn't make bills, I was left in Ft. Gordon GA with not even enough cash to buy deodorant.I got even better news, it could be 20 weeks til I got in my AIT training (which was 28 weeks).I was in the barracks with a woman from Guam who left her 6 month old baby to be in the Military and her child was near 2 years old and she still didn't get a duty station after all this, she eventually chaptered out.I eventually broke free and got a OTH discharge, the stories I could tell being out processed in Ft Knox Kentucky are disturbing. One woman was AWOL for 15 years, she was beat up in AIT by a woman screwing the Sargent her friends burned her with cigarettes, every attempt to reach chain of command was overshadowed by the Sargent she was sleeping with. One man had his wife go into a coma in a car accident while he was away he bailed out to be with his kids in which the Military suggested foster care could be an option.Let's just say as we were driven to Louisville airport by a loud mouth obese woman who told us we were all shit (no affiliation to the military)for leaving this guy opened up a can of whoop ass on her.My obligation was to my family, I tried it and I enjoyed all of basic because I loved the urban ops training, going to the FOB, and the physical aspect, buy I could not survive the financial impacts it had. They promised me even the basic level of protections when I went through MEPS would be covered, none of that happened.

Who can i turn to if my moral waiver has been denied?

long story short I went to enlist in the airforce a year ago i got dep discharged
because i "concealed an expunged arrest" after 6 months i waitd and went to the army to see if they would pass a moral waiver on it?
my medical was good i do armed security for the state of Oklahoma
"sameplace i commited the crime" my job pays well and i work around a lot of money. The charge was a felony charge but again it was dropped. "i know this doesnt mean dick to the meps ppl and they probably just wanted to tell me no cuze they didnt wanna mess with it. anyways i contacted my senators office about this they contacted the Army which basicly said "do to recent law violations " i was not morally acceptable for the army. aside from a few speeding tickets there was only the one violation which was expunged in 06 I'm a little baffled can someone shed some light on this for me ? i understand life isn't fair but come on there are a lot more ppl in the army with moral issues then I have. Other then the one arrest and a few tickets everything is in good standing i dont do drugs i work out every other day and i study different cultures andi lov doin my job. it just seems like they gave me a "be nice and go away letter" instead of a real answer......I guess my question is who can i talk to or canidoanything about this i mean if they don't accept me i'm all about making a big stank about the matter.. but i doubt it do much good..

Can I still join the Army after being denied to the Air Force?

I took my ASVAB and went to MEPS in January, I was disqualified because of mypoia (my vision was horrible). I then went to the civilian doctors and he got my prescription completely wrong. After recieveing that news my recruited submitted a request for a waiver. As I was waiting for my waiver I went to my optometrist to check my eyes. My prescription lower then what the civilian doctors had put. Few weeks later my recruiter told me my request for a waiver was denied and i was permanently DQ'd. My second option was joining the army. It is my dream to join the military life. I just called a recruited and he only said one work, NO you cannont join the army if you were DQ'd from the Air Force.

I was just wondering if theres anything I can do, the recruiter didnt really tell me much about my situation. Ive been reading and there are people who went to talk to the army and was granted a waiver, but I wanted to know what more I can do or do nothing at all. The recruiter again didnt give me much on why or did he want to even help me.
