Can I Take My Bike On The Railway And Tube

Whats the difference between a subway and a train?

There are no clear differences between subways and trains, as even reading some of the answers already given I can think of exceptions to what has been said.

For example, a good amount of London's metropolitan rail journeys are provided by the the mainline rail companies. In fact, one of the reasons why the London Underground network is not as extensive south of the Thames as it is north of the Thames is that the mainline rail companies already had the main routes sewn up. Almost every mainline terminal in London runs services that could fit some of the definitions of a subway stated here; shorter journeys at high frequencies within or just beyond the boundaries of the metropolitan area using high capacity cars. And yet, in the UK at least, these are still classified as mainline rail services the same as longer distance intercity routes.

In terms of the technology and equipment there is almost no difference between a mainline rail service and a subway service. "Subway" is just a colloquial term that refers to a certain type of rail service.

Why can't bikes be on the first car on a BART train?

Several times riding the BART train system I have heard pages that a biker needs to move his/her bike to at least the second train car before the train can leave. I've heard BART cops mention that it is a safety issue, but what exactly is the safety issue?

How do I transport my bike from Bengaluru to Mumbai so that it reaches by Saturday evening? How much will it cost?

Go to Bangalore railway station postal/baggage services office. There is a ticket that you will have to buy for your bike to travel in a train. There are a lot of agents out there who take approx 500 or less to get the entire thing done.If you decide to do it yourself, it will take around 6 hours of work, running from here to there. via agenet it will take approx 2 hours with no work, you just have to sit and observer the packing of your bike.It takes approx 2-3 days by train and its the least costliest. If you don't want train, you can either opt for Gati, but it will be 5X expenses.Choose train and get an agent at railway station.

Do bike seats fit on any bike?

Bike seats (saddles) attach either by an old school clamp method like this... http://www.amazon.com/Velo-Seat-Clamp-St...

Or by a seatpost direct clamp method - like this one... http://www.amazon.com/Kalloy-Alloy-Bicyc...

Either way, they're pretty universal.

I would try adjusting the current saddle first. Try moving it forward or tilt it slightly nose up or nose down. Soft, wide & squishy saddles only make matters worse! You're supposed to sit ON a bicycle saddle, not sit IN it. Ones that are too w-I-d-e & squishy pinch off nerve endings & blood vessels causing more pain.

What is the procedure to transport a bike (Royal Enfield Classic) from Bangalore to Delhi without having to travel with the bike?

Pre Work 1) Check which train starts in your city of departure and ends at your city of arrival.Pre Work 2) Go to a Royal Enfield showroom in your city of departure and ask them for a packing kit... All their bikes are transported by lorry and come completely packed in thermoform and customised gunny bags. Buy one from him. They may even give it to you free if you patronise that shop for service of your bike.3) : Ensure you have a pollution under control certificate, insurance for your motorcycle and the registration papers all in original and a set of photo copies with you before going to the railway stationEnsure that you reach the station with at least 7 hours to spare before the train arrives.Go to the Railway parcel office with your bike and kit. Carry Pliers, Screw driver, cellophane tape and a universal spanner.Remove all the petrol, (I am assuming you have a carburettor and not an EFI) take the petrol tube in your hand. (I have a space next to the carburettor where I can place this for safekeeping- see what you can do). This is required as otherwise the railway officials tend to tear away the tube and you will be stranded at the pick up point. If you have an EFI bike, then this step is redundant. You will just have to ensure that every drop of petrol is removed from the tank.Use cellophane tape to seal the carb inlet from dirt.Next remove the mirrors and tape them to the seat ... with cellophane tapeLoosen the brake and clutch levers from their handle screws and let them hang loose. Put the nuts back into the empty socketsOutside the station you will find a guy who is willing to pack your bike. He will charge 500-700.After booking the bike to your destination city (that's when you have to show the documents to the railways and pay the cost), make sure you talk to the loader. Bribe him 500 to load the bike on your specific train. Pay him 250 now and 250 once loaded (If I were you, I would ensure that I am present when the bike is being loaded.)
