Can I Use My English Driving Licence If I Move To Australia

Can a foreigner apply for a driving licence in Australia?

If you were over 25 or hold a drivers license in another country it is much easier to get permission to drive in Australia. Short term visitors (up to 3 months) can use an International Drivers License. Longer term need to sit the test to get an Australian licence. As you are under 25 & don't hold a license. You will be required drive under the supervision & instruction of a fully licensed driver for at least 120 hours. You need to keep a log book as evidence of this. This time can be reduced to a minimum of 100 hours, if you are taught by a professional driving instructor (PDI). As each hour of professional instruction counts as 3 hours. Up to a maximum of 10 hours. Then Professional Instructor hours count the same as any other licensed driver. Professional Instruction costs ~$60 - 90 per hour. Typically asking someone to give up 100+ hours of their time to teach you to drive is a big ask. Especially as they need to be on their full license. Not provisional as most 18-19 yr olds are. So if you lack the friends with the car you, should budget ~$7,000 to get your license. Driving Companies will typically give you a discount when you bulk-buy hours. (10 or more)For details see. Different rules for Visitor and Permanent Visa holders:eg:Driving in Western Australia, as a Visitor, with an Overseas LicenceIf you are a visitor to Western Australia (WA), you may drive only those vehicles that you are authorised to drive on your overseas licence, for as long as it remains valid in the country of issue. If your overseas licence is not in English, you must carry an international driving permit or an approved English translation of your licence with you when you drive.if your overseas licence ceases to be valid or expires, you must apply for a WA licence if you intend on driving here. You may need to prove your genuine visitor status to the Traffic Police, if required. You need to carry your Driver Licence and English Translation or International Driving Permit at all times while driving.International Driving PermitsAn International Driving Permit (IDP) or International Drivers Licence is a United Nations sanctioned document that translates your driving classification into nine different languages and is recognised in over 150 countries.Driving in Western Australia, as a Permanent Resident, with an Overseas LicenceYou must get a driver’s licence once you have resided in WA for three months since being granted a permanent resident visa.

I'm moving to Australia for 2 years soon. I want to pass my driving test. Which test is easier/quicker, Australia's or the UK's?

If you want your licence here in Melbourne, Australia there are 3 tests. Learner permit test, Hazard perception test, and then the practical Driving test. Not hard to pass and get your licence but I would definitely suggest professional driving lessons for the Vicroads driving test. Some of the Vicroads test centres are Carlton, Heatherton , East Burwood as well as others. Driving instructors and driving schools will usually pick you up from home for your lessons or you can meet them at your local Vicroads office. I would suggest choosing a reputable and long established driving school here are a few http:www.DrivingSchoolMelbourne.com or http:www.Drivinglessonsmelbourne.com.au or http://www.MelbourneDrivingschoo...

Can you use an Australian driver license in Taiwan without getting any international or local driver license?

Don't count on it. Taiwan has some reciprocal agreements with certain US states where a licence from one jurisdiction can be used in the other, but these are relatively few. Don't count on an Australian licence being accepted.

You must have an International Driving Licence--get it BEFORE you leave home. If you are a visitor, you can use your IDL for six months--longer than your visitor visa. If you are an alien resident, you must get an ROC DL--but you can't do that unless your resident visa is good for at least at year. My resident visa expired with my contract after eleven months, but the motor vehicle place simply endorsed my IDL for me.

It is FOLLY to drive without a valid licence. No valid licence = void insurance = big trouble if you have an accident--especially if someone is hurt.

If you intend to use a motorbike, take a safety course and get an Australian motorcycle licence before you go. You cannot ride a scooter in Taiwan without a motorcycle licence--except for little 50 cc jobs, which are too small to go anywhere and too light to take a passenger.

Think twice about buying a car, unless you will be living in the country or in small town. Owning a car in a big city is an insane idea. Nothing but a parking and security nightmare.

Of course, but you can use it only for 3 months. After that you will have to obtain a permit.Let me explain you how this whole thing works… You can drive in the UK, Europe, USA with your Indian Driving License… BUT it should be the smart card license which is in ENGLISH. If you have those old licenses printed in Hindi and English, it will not be considered valid. Eg: Licences issued in Middle Eastern countries are mostly in Arabic or Arabic/English, with such licences you have to get a driving permit to drive in any of these countries. - That’s what they say on their respective govt websites-License these days are like a smart card, printed in English. With those, you’re good to go in almost all the countries.
