Can I Use My Prepaid Visa Card To Deposit Money Into My Checking Account

How do you deposit a refund check onto a prepaid debit card?

She won't be able to deposit your tax refund onto her NetSpend card. Bancorp will bounce that back.

Your best bet would be to get your own prepaid card. Wal-Mart has a Visa branded card that is probably the best in the business. Minimal fees are involved to get it started (as low as $0 and rarely over $5) and junk and maintenance fees are virtually nonexistent. They usually waive the fee when you fund it with a tax refund check and they will normally make up to $5,000 of a tax refund immediately available to you.

As a bonus, this card comes with a routing and account number that you can use to have your tax refund, paycheck, or any other funds paid to you electronically. That way you never have to worry about losing money in the mail or being paid late.

I'm not a big fan of Wally World, but this is one of the things that they got right.

Edit: Every prepaid debit card has a bank account behind it. That's how they work. Some don't let you access the underlying account while others do. The Wal-Mart Prepaid Visa debit card is one that does. You don't have access to the account by writing checks and you don't get the usual bank teller services with it, but you can have funds deposited to it electronically and you can deposit cash or other checks to it at any Wal-Mart store nationwide. It even works on line if you have it registered to your name and home address. As I said, I'm not a Wal-Mart fan-boy but this IS a really good deal especially if you don't want or can't get a regular bank account.

Can I transfer money into my eTrade account using a Visa debit card or Paypal? ?

I just signed up... It looks like I need to provide my entire checking account information from my bank? Is there no other way?

Also, I selected NO on the "sweeps accounts" selection. I was worried this would simply drag out the account opening process and/or add fees to my account. Can anyone give me insight here?

If it's just a matter of selecting YES and then I have an ETrade interest-earning account along with check writing and a debit card, then I'll select yes!

Is it possible to deposit money in a Chase checking account using a travel card?

If by travel card you mean a prepaid Visa or Mastercard debit card, you may be able to go purchase a money order with that card and then deposit it to your Chase account.

Could you send money from a bank account to a prepaid debit card?

Yes, although not all cards offer this feature. If you consider the reloadable prepaid debit cards offered by American Express (see: americanexpress.com\serve), as one example, all offer an option to link a bank account and to transfer funds between that account and the card account. In the US, this function uses the "direct deposit" capabilities of the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system, which takes 1-2 business days to move the funds. You can accomplish the same thing using the "remote deposit capture" feature of some of the mobile applications that are offered by several of the popular prepaid debit card providers. That feature enables you to send a photo of a check that will be deposited electronically to your card account using the same ACH system.

Can I use a prepaid visa card to use scottrade?

No you cannot do that. You have to have your parent open an account similar to a bank account for you if your a minor. Scottrade can not and will not do trades with a minor. It is illegal with out a guardian/parent consent. After the account, you can go online and do what ever you want. Buy and sell, but the account has to be in your parents name for you. They will also have to accept the tax liablity for the account as well. Basically, the IRS is at the stock market with Scottrade and they wouldn't allow the prepaid visa card company to join their group. You can only use the money in that account. No credit cards or debt Visa

Can prepaid debit cards be garnished like a bank account?

I'm curious, is it correct that a prepaid debit card can't be garnished like a bank account? I thought it was crazy, but someone I work with doesn't want to have a checking account because he's afraid of it being garnished, so he opted for the employer issued payroll card which is really crappy. They offer a free ATM but it's on the other side of town and it's inside a store so you have to go during store hours.

I tried to get him to try an American Express Bluebird card because it doesn't have any fees but he's concerned that it could be garnished like a bank account, Also their checks are weird and because the employer requires a voided check for direct deposit, they won't work. The company only pays by direct deposit, so getting a paper check and going to a check cashing place isn't an option.

The whole thing has me curious, so money kept in a regular bank account can be garnished but money on a prepaid card can't. He's been sued several times over medical bills, child support and unpaid credit cards. He never leaves any money on his card, on payday he goes to the ATM checks the balance then takes it all out. But that's only because the payroll card only gives you one free ATM withdraw per pay period. After that it costs $4 each time you use the ATM.

If he got say a GreenDot card or Amex Bluebird, would he be able to keep money on the card and not have it garnished? I don't want to give him bad advice.
