Per Elaine's suggestion, I am adding the substantive elements of my response to her comments as an answer of their own accord. Most grass court shoes only really differ from their standard counterparts in terms of the outsole.  The larger companies (adidas, Nike, etc.) tend to base their grass court offerings on the same platform as their main line tennis shoes, and just add a dimpled outsole.  So the cushioning is actually almost exactly the same, even though it doesn't need to be.  And while greater lateral support would be great, they don't really add anything structurally in most cases to achieve this. Bottom line, the current grass court offerings are basically the same shoes with a different (dimpled) outsole.  To answer the OP's question, they're not nearly as pronounced (or as hard) as cleats, but they are more raised than standard tennis shoes.  The best way to describe the texture is "nubs".  They are slightly reminiscent of a smaller version of the old turf shoe soles.

You might want to find out which tennis shoe best supports your foot for the kinds of activities you normally do.I have been wearing heels since I was in high school. I have seen no changes to my posture (doesn’t mean there hasn’t been any), but I have absolutely seen changes to my feet. The arches of my feet are flatter than they were when I was a teen. And my prolonged wearing of flip flops hasn’t helped at all.If you are concerned about your feet and posture, find out what sort of pronation you have. My best guess would be, that you can then properly support your feet and wear tennis shoes as much as you like.Understanding Pronation: Finding the right shoes | ASICS IEI am not a podiatrist, and my answer is related to my personal experience and observations. I have no issues with my feet nor my posture. I try to wear comfortable, well fitting, and appropriate-for-the-occasion shoes as often as I can. If you have real concerns about your feet and posture, check in with a doc.
