Can I Wire 2 Power And Ground Wires At A Cars Battery Terminals

What causes a car battery terminal to get hot when trying to start it?

Possibly this1. If wires get hot when you try to start it and the motor is spinning over. Then the motor isn't starting and your over heating the cables by using the starter too much.2. If the wires are getting hot, but the engine isn't turning over then the starter is bad or the BIG wire going to the starter is shorted.3. If only one wire is getting hot at a connection, then you have a bad connection at that point. A symptom of this problem is everything electrical shuts off when you hit the starter.

Why does a car ground cable (from battery) have 2 ground wires?

I was looking at upgrading my stereo and using lower gaige wires to improve my ground, but I was just curuois why my old ground split off into 2 wires?

one of which is a good ground (onto tranny)

and the other which is just a bolt on the body

is it for " safety" incase one of the grounds breaks?? (what would happen if both failed)

THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR YOUR ANDWER!!!

Can a loose battery terminal drain car battery?

I’ve went thru 3 car batteries within the past 2 months. 2 within the past 2 days. I had everything tested. My charge system and everything passed. Just except the battery. Luckily it’s been under warranty so I was able to replace it without huge hassle. But as the guy at auto zone was changing it, he noticed that my battery terminal was loose. I want to believe it was the positive one (if that helps to know). He show me how loose it was, showing me how easily it was sliding up and down the metal thing on top of the battery. He tightened it and put a shin on it. Could that have been what was drastically draining my battery overnight and within a couple days? Sorry for my lack of mechanical terms. Nothing on my car is left on. I don’t understand why my battery is draining and everything is testing positive in my charge system except my battery. I will get it checked in the morning but does anybody have a clue here? Please help.

Which color is the ground wire on a car battery?

If the car is wired to British Standard automotive wiring codes, the ground is black. If European (especially French or Spanish) the ground wires are brown. Most batteries in automotive applications don’t use a ground wire as such, but a braided copper strap goint from the battery -ve terminal to a grounding point on the chassis or engine.

Connect amp wire to car battery?

Absolutely not!

The amp power wire goes to battery POSITIVE. The amp "ground" should be as close to the amp as possible, and be securely screwed to bare metal on the vehicle frame or chassis. The battery negative should be removed while your are making the connections.

The correct sequence is as follows:

1) Remove battery negative terminal.
2) Locate and mount the amp. Connect ground terminal to bare metal within 18-24" of the amp using the same gauge wire as the power wire.
3) Run power wire from battery positive to the amp power terminal. DO NOT install the fuse yet.
4) Connect remote wire, RCA inputs, and speaker and/or subwoofers.
5) Check that all terminals are tight and secure and that no strands of wire from one terminal are contacting adjacent wires or terminals.
6) Install the fuse in the positive wire.
7) Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

The amp will not drain your battery when the vehicle is off. If the wiring is correct and the remote wire from your head unit operates properly, the amp will only turn on when the head unit is turned on.

Why does my stereo wiring harness have an extra ground, and an extra constant power wire?

The wiring harness for my new stereo im about to install has 2 chassis ground (black) wires, and 2 12v constant (yellow) wires. My actual stereo only has 1 of each.

What do i do with the extras? does it matter which one i solder together?

How many ground wires should be connected to the negative terminal of a car battery?

Years ago it was common for the ground to go straight to the frame, then there was a separate heavy ground strap from the frame to the engine because the engine sits on rubber mounts and is more or less insulated from the frame. Everything else could be grounded to the frame or somewhere on the body. My first truck was like this, with the battery under the floorboard on the passenger side. Some automakers ground the battery to the engine block on the closest available bolt, but since the engine is more or less insulated it needs a wire from the block back to the frame or body. If something happens to that wire, or it gets left off by a mechanic it can cause both starting problems as well as charging problems. The other option is to run a separate ground from the battery to the body. Some Fords have the main ground going all the way to a starter bolt, which is what I think you are seeing. I’m not sure why they felt the need to use such a long ground. It’s not unusual to find some redundancy, either from the factory or because someone had a problem and added an extra wire. My truck has an added wire due to a poor ground on the headlights.Depending on how things are connected it could be one, two, or possibly more. I’m not sure I’ve seen more than two from the factory, but I have encountered some strange wiring schemes and wouldn’t rule it out.

Power wire and ground wire touched while connected to amp ?

so I'm trying to install a mq quart oa800.4 amp in my car .. replacing another amp so all the wires are already in place .. however the power and ground terminals on the amp are very small even though it says up to 4 gauge ..

I had to shave off some of the wire so it would fit but I didn't wrap some exposed wire after I got them to fit being in a hurry to turn it on and hear how it sounds ..

so I connect the battery back up but realize that the remote wire wasn't connected so I go back to connect it but forget to disconnect the battery again .. while doing this, those exposed areas touched a couple times(at first couldn't tell what was touching) so they touched 2-3 times very briefly .. like less than a second each time .. but on the last one I smelled a bit of a burn smell .. my heart sank at that moment .. thought the amp was blown .. but checked the fuses on it and they looked ok and then played some cds and it sounds ok .. could the amp have been damaged in any way ?

Where do i connect the red, yellow, and black wires in my car stereo?

1-the black wire it's ground (negative)
2-red wire is positive (+) connect it to a wire that has voltage every time you turn the ignition on ,(that way when you turn the ignition off the stereo will shut off also)
3-the yellow wire is positive also (+) and is your stereo's memory connect it to a wire that always have voltage even if you turn the ignition off that way the time clock and your favorite stations won't be erased every time you turn your stereo off (you can connect it to the positive wire that goes to the back of your cigarrett lighter this wire has voltage all the time even with the ignition off)
NOTE-never connect the red and yellow wires together it won't damage your stereo but if you connect them to a positive (+)
wire that has voltage even with the ignition off your stereo won't shut off when you turn your ignition off.
if you connect red and yellow together to a wire that has voltage (+) only when you turn your ignition on your stereo will erase the time clock and your favorite stations every time you turn your ignition off.
THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T CONNECT THEM TOGETHER!
good luck with task and let me know if you have more questions
