Can Mercury Fall Out Of A Celling Fan When A Light Bulb Burned Out

Why do light bulbs blow out if you flip the switch too fast?

Its not that you flip the switch too fast and that contact is made any faster when you do flip it forcefully. The incandescent bulb is made with a fine tungsten filament. The filament has a high positive thermal coefficient of resistance. When you turn it on it is cold and nearly zero resistance, A high inrush current (maybe 10 to 20 or more amps) heats it rapidly and the current drops to a mere amp or so for a 100W bulb but it does get very hot, which is how it produces light. The bulb ages and burns off tungsten and the glass it leaks some oxygen which oxidizes and embrittles the filament. Eventually it breaks. Often this occurs when it is switched on and the thermo-mechanical shock of the inrush current may cause it to break if it has been getting weaker. The sudden change of temperature exerts physical shock as the filament expands rapidly. I think that this is a common occurrence and while you probably associate flipping the switch with blowing the bulb its the coincidence of the thermo-mechanical  driven shock with normal wearout that causes it to fail at that moment.

Can a basic looking light switch turn itself off?

When I was around 8 years old, my family had trouble with the power socket switches turning themselves on and off mostly at night, over the course of several years. This irritable occurrence seemed to intensify as soon as one of us focused our attention on the power socket, and did not seem to be a happenstance response, but more a occultly acknowledgement of our presences. It even got to the point where sometimes electrical appliances turned on by themselves, including the TV in the lounge room. The switched turning themselves on and off went from a frightening and commonplace event in our house, to that of an annoyance. I started kicking the power sockets in, as they seemed to be taunting us, as was my thoughts as a kid and that of my parents as well.Several family members were eye witnesses to the ‘switch phenomenon’ in our house, and still to this day, myself or my family members cannot logically conclude what could of been causing this issue with the switches. We moved out of the house in the mid-90s as a result of the strange phenomenon.Though i don’t expect anyone to take me seriously, or believe a word in what I am saying , i don’t really care, and don’t have to prove anything to anyone. I don’t believe in ghosts, but do believe in inter-dimensional externalities, only as a result of my experiences. There really is no other logical explanation. There was an acknowledge-mental interactive component to the time and occurrence of the ‘switching phenomenon’ we witnessed. At the time i wish my family had of contacted the Australian tv series ‘The Extraordinary, as it would of baffled even the most cynical of minds, I can assure you.

Why does a ceiling fan make a strange sound when running on an inverter?

Some inverters can generate, for example, square wave current variation. The square wave is composed of superposition of many harmonic sine waves (Fourier’s theorem — multiples of basic frequency).*This square wave AC, when connected to a fan, creates jerkily revolving magnetic field inside, making the rotor to make jerky motion and hence noise. Also these unfiltered harmonics in the AC create vibrations in the coil, generating humming noise. These types of inverters are used for thermal and lighting applications only where the shape of AC change does not matter. Sensitive equipment like computers and motors need sine-wave producing inverters.

Why do bulbs explode?

in this question the “explosion” is likely to be interpreted as “violent failure” with the result of pieces and parts of the bulb flying around in an uncontrolled fashion.technically it is called “non-containment” and there are two kinds: implosion (when the inside pressure is smaller than the outside pressure) and explosion (when the inside pressure is larger than the outside pressure. )Incandescent lamps up to 40w are “filled with vacuum” therefore may implode, while 60w and higher are filled near atmospheric pressure with argon nitrogen mix and at operating temperature the inside pressure is higher than atmospheric therefore explode.Halogen lamps are filled to several times the atmospheric pressure and may explode.Reasons for non containment can be mechanical damage ((accidentally knocking over a lamp or hitting the bulb), or arcing inside the bulb causing excessive pressure plus stress in the glass envelope causing it to burst.arcing is the typical end of life for incandescent and halogen lamps and bulbs employ various techniques to suppress arcing very quickly to prevent non containment.(examples are internal fuse, and gas mix to suppress arcing etc)Non containment at end of life is rare but can happen. Halogen lamps therefore also often have a safety cover and it is important to observe safety instructions for the lamp.CFL s are low pressure and may implode due to stresses in the glass and discharge lamps may implode or explode depending on the type due to failures in the control circuit or mechanical damage or stresses although very rarely.Leds do not explode as those are solid state but may catch fire due to electronics failure. LEDs in glass envelope also only break but do not explode like an incandescent lamp could.please visit Forestfern.org when transitioning to LED.thank you.

How would you kill Batman?

i actually have a very different take then everybody else on this… it’s slightly difficult but possible, first, hire some muscle, maybe bane or some big goons, to kidnap selena kyle while she sleeps. next leave a clue that only the bat would be able to understand telling you where she is. he’s batman so he’s gonna come in ready with a plan. when he finds selena, she’s just chained to a chair in an empty dark warehouse. he goes to unchain her and as he walks he triggers pressure plates releasing scarecrow toxin. then bats. then you release a hungry killer croc who agreed to this because he want’s the bat dead too, you’ve starved croc for two weeks now and you’ve been constantly abusing him and now you’re unchaining him on the batman. still think bruce could come through? okay, while he’s screaming in terror surrounded by bats and with fear toxin in him with a pissed off, starved croc coming at him, you simply hired deathstroke to finish the job and he snipes bruce right in the mouth of his mask. done. if there are any ways you think this would fail, please comment.
