Can Multiple Sclerosis Cause You To Have Headaches A Lot

Multiple sclerosis and headaches?

its possible youre having a relapse but you should ask your doctor

Can Multiple Sclerosis cause you to have headaches a lot?

Hello my friend, I rarely if ever use outside sources for my answers but with you I've made the exception.

Does Multiple Sclerosis Cause Headache?

Question
Is multiple sclerosis (MS) in and of itself ever an etiology for headache? If so, what is the pathophysiology and reasonable treatment?

Response from Rohit Bakshi, MD

MS is commonly associated with headaches, with a prevalence of approximately 12% to 52%. Sometimes, the headaches are associated with specific brain lesions seen on MRI, such as large, supratentorial, tumorlike plaques or lesions in the pons. However, in most cases, the headaches are present without predictable MRI correlations.
Patients with MS may also develop headaches during bouts of optic neuritis. These are typically unilateral and worsened by eye movement. Other causes for headaches in MS patients are cervical paraspinal spasm (tension headache), migraine, or depression. There is no evidence indicating that headaches in patients with MS require treatment different from that for similar headache syndromes not associated with MS. In my experience, most patients respond to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents or antidepressants and migraine-specific agents, if indicated. In selected cases, referral to a pain specialist may be helpful.

Hope this helps :)

This is the big question. Answer it and we may be able to cure Multiple Sclerosis, but it seems that finding a cause that more than a few can agree on for any substantial time is like finding a speck of gold in a sand dune.Personally, I would have to concur with Jenn Wenn and suggest that a serious illness in a person's early years could cause a disturbance to the immune system that manifests itself years later. The research I came across about this insinuated interferon gamma was dormant from the initial infection and later activated hence acting somewhat like speed or somesuch to immune system which then has a field day with the myelin; a bit like a child throwing a tantrum for not getting attention. What confuses the issue further are these facts:In these of identical twins one can develop MS whilst the other does not.Although caucasians are the race who predominantly suffer from the condition they are not the only ones to get it.Family history is not always observable.State of health at the time of the first attack is infinitely variable.Personal health habits have no commonality. There is no conclusive proof of veinous insufficiency anymore (Dr Zamboni's suggestion).

Multiple sclerosis is the disease of nervous system. The disease is more common in the western world. The disease affects young individuals, has a prolonged course and causes disability at the prime of life. The disease is marked by frequent remissions and relapses. The disease produces a myriad of symptoms. Some of the common symptoms include haziness and dimness of vision, double vision, scanning speech, tremors of hands and legs, weakness of one or more limbs, numbness and tingling pains in the limbs, vertigo and loss of balance, etc.Though the condition produces life-impairing symptoms, the exact cause of this condition is not clear. Recent research suggests that the disease is due to disturbance of immune system where body’s own defence mechanism starts attacking body’s own organs and tissues. The genetic and heredity factors are at the root of this alteration of immune system.Suggestion about homeopathic treatmentAlthough Multiple Sclerosis has always puzzled physicians of all walks; interestingly homeopathy system offers reasonably positive treatment if not cure in such cases. The various expressions of disease can be managed effectively, gently, and safely with Homeopathy. Early intervention with homeopathy can assist in preventing further progress and hence deterioration caused by disease. At Life Force, we have limited experience with Multiple Sclerosis. However, we have observed and documented significant results in some of the cases. Homeopathy is recommended for Multiple Sclerosis in all stages, especially earlier stages. For further inquiry you can visit our website www.askdrshah.com

Having MS and Crohn’s, I can confidently tell you that in terms of being fearful of my life, Crohn’s is the worse of the two. MS will definitely impact my life in many-many ways, but it isn’t deadly. How will my relapsing-remitting MS specifically change my life? Here are a few ways:It continues to literally slow me down every yearIt gives me new perspective on life as I now realize doing what I love is much more important than saving money for exampleIt gives me anxiety from knowing I won’t be able to do many things with my daughter when she gets older such as go on a roller coaster or play outside in the hot sun for long periods of timeIt’s all a matter of perspective and it will impact each person differently, especially seeing my MS could be completely different from yours. Make sure you ask as many questions as possible each time you see your doctor. I suggest even bringing in an agenda for your appointments (I may also have OCD ;) )
