Can My Boss Ask Me Why Am I Not Coming In To Work

If your boss asks you to work, is it okay to say no?

Legally you are fine to say "no" if asking you to work is in addition to the published schedule and you already had plans.

From a practical point of view, however, I would say yes as often as I could. In fast food, I am sure "no shows" and turnover are huge problems and if you are proving to be reliable then that will bode well for you when it comes to review / raise time, getting into a Manager's Training program, etc.

So I think it is okay to decline on occasion. You needn't feel bad. But by the same token, you may compare more favorably against other employees the more you do this, so if you have long-term aspirations there, say yes as often as you can.

Boss asking for Doctor's note....?

So, I called in sick yesterday with an ear infection. I left my boss a message and told her I wasn't coming in. I did not mention anything about going to the Dr. and unfortunately my job pays me poorly that I can not afford to go to the Dr. I had some Penicillin at home and just decided to start taking that. I have had ear infections before and I'm the sure the Dr. would have just done the same.
So I come into work today and my boss leaves me a note on my time card about something else. At the bottom of the note she writes, "Place your Doctor's Excuse in my box."
She has never asked for one before or asked anyone else here before for one.
What the hell....Can't I be sick and not go to the Dr.
All I needed was sleep and medicine... I didn't need to pay $125.00 to the Dr. to find that out. Please Help!!!!

p.s. I rather take the assertive approach with my boss rather than the "kiss ***" method....not gonna do it.

My boss is asking me to work on the weekend. How do I say no in a polite manner?

Is this happening often. Or is it an one off. There are different kinds of superiors. One who are workaholics and prefer office to home and expect their teams to be the same; or ones who believe in wasting time during work hours and then work extended hours to prove something to their superiors; or the third and the genuine ones who stretch when there are deadlines to be met or if it is an escalation.First check out the reasons for why you are being asked to work on a weekend. If it is critical and needed, oblige. It is better to keep the boss posted that you are not comfortable working on weekend but do not do it after he has allocated and asked your time. That looks bad. Unless you have a pressing reason that is more crucial for you.It is good to be open and upfront during a non stressful time and tell your boss that you would have to plan and make some adjustments if you are asked to work during weekends. Tell him that you believe in a work life balance and this rejuvenates you to do better during the week. You could always check what is to be done, stretch your weekdays and make sure you don't have to work during the weekend.I believe it is better to be honest during the initial induction period and check out about working weekends rather than feeling uncomfortable about it later.

How can I tell my boss I will not come to work today?

This is how I tell my boss If I will not show up to work. I am a government worker in Jakarta. If the reason I don’t come to work is not because I am not feeling well. Just because I feel lazy and bored.Scenario 1 : By phone callMe : Hello, Sir I need to tell you that I can’t come to work today. My Boss : Why ?Me : uhm .. I have something very important to do, it’s urgent but I will show up to work the next day and If you need me just give me a call or text me. I will reply you as soon as possible. My Boss : Ok.Scenario 2 : Text message via WA.Good morning sir, I have something very urgent to do today which prevents me from coming to work. Please understand and I will show up to work next day. Thank you for your consideration. If the reason is because I am not feeling well and I need to take a break to recover myself.Scenario 1 : by phone callMe : Good morning sir, I am not OK today. Since last night I got headache, I took some medicine but the pain won’t go. I need to rest today so I can’t come to work. I hope I get well soon and I can come to work next day.Boss : Really ? I am sorry to hear that. Ok you can rest today. I hope you get well soon.Scenario 2 : Text message via WAMe : Good morning Sir. I am not feeling well. I need to take one day off. How do I ask my boss for less hours?

I started a new, temporary (2-3 month job) with my university last week. When I first signed up for the job, I was only going to work 12 hours a week and go to school. However, once school was over, my boss asked me if I would work more hours and I obliged, thinking it would not be a big deal.

However, now that I have started, I've found that the 32+ plus hours are too much for the following reasons: 1) I am studying for the LSAT, a very important test for getting into law school. However, I find myself either not having enough time to study for it or too exhausted to study for it when I get home. 2) I have back problems that are flaring up from sitting in my work chair all day. 3) The job itself is just difficult and is both stressing and depressing me. None of these things were issues when I was first hired. When I interviewed, I told my boss I can manage stress and multiple responsibilities, so how do I tell her that I am just over-worked right now and need less hours?

Boss wants to take my work. What might this mean?

I have been having a few struggles at work recently. I am a good performer and although i am new to the workplace, i have successfully met all my targets and going beyond them too. When i showed my boss my work in the past, she would ask me for a copy to show his boss. As a loyal employee, i have given copies however today i got an email and my boss asked me for all of my work to be emailed, for every single project including those i still need to implement (due next year). Something feels wrong and she has been lying about having seen copies of my work (she never had them). My boss also knows I have not been happy with her management style and I told her today that I would prefer to present my own work to her boss/ team, with her there instead. This is the first time she's asked for all my work and it didn't seem to have my best interests. My gut tells me she was planning on me quitting or expecting me to do so. I made sure to explain i am still as invested as before.

What should I do if my work asks me to work on a day I am scheduled to be off work and I am away? Should I answer and take the risk or ignore the calls and enjoy my planned day off?

The worst case scenario can turn into the best case scenario. This is one factor that I don't think the other answers have covered. Two friends and I were looking forward to a wonderful Oktoberfest trip. In Munich. Oh my god. Awesomeness. The day before the flight, I see one of my friends take the saddest, slowest walk he's ever taken, up to me and my other friend. Then he said, "I can't go." It sucked for him. It sucked for us. It sucked. That is the price of answering that phone call. But then, the company covered his share of the hotel room, so our trip became 1/3 cheaper, and more importantly, shortly after that sacrifice, they promoted his ass to manager. He showed he can be counted on. Ultra-reliable. That's what companies look for in their leaders. He made that sacrifice, and, well, I've seen his office, with a gorgeous view of Manhattan, complete with skyscrapers, buildings, etc, in a private office. And people answer to him. He certainly is very well off, probably for life...... and it was because he's the type of person who answers the phone.

My job keeps asking me to work on my days off. What to do?

I really enjoy my new job but I also enjoy my days off. Ive been working there for 2 weeks now and they have already called me in on 5 different occasions to ask if i could come in on my days off. I dont work for money but rather for fun and this is a 7 bucks an hour job that im not willing to give up a weekend for. Ive turned them down 4 times, agreed to come in 1. so my questions are
Managers, how do you feel if your employee refuses to work on a day off? ( expet one time, i has classes when they called me so thats a reasonable excuse)
Also, I dont really ever want to come in when im not scheduled and I have a feeling they will be doing this to me a lot so how do i go about it? Im a horrible liar and would prefer not to make things up
I dont wanna look bad in my managers eyes but i almost never had to deal with this in my last jobs and I just end up feeling guilty. i dont wanna spend my day off feeling like crap because i didnt help them. what to do?

Will I be able to tell my boss that I can’t come to work for the next 2-3 months and come back?

Your question is nearly impossible to answer without more facts about your situation and without knowing anything about your employer’s personal leave policy. If you must leave because of a military service commitment, theoretically your employer should keep your job open for you. That does not mean it will.If you must leave because of a family issue, you can under the Family and Medical Leave Act and return to your job. That does not mean you will be allowed.Otherwise, much may depend on your employer’s personal leave policy, if any, and your particular circumstances.
