Can People Post Videos Of You On The Web Without Permission

Is it illegal to video tape someone and post it on the Internet without them knowing, much like the Paparazzi does?

It is not generally illegal to tape someone when they are in public. Nor is it illegal to place it online. There are exceptions to everything, of course.

Can websites take your videos and post them without your permission?

Hello

But like they didn't give me credit or even let me know it was getting posted? They don't have to, but they should at least give you credit if they want to use your video on their website.

are they aloud to do that? Yes, but it depends on what kind of video you made. There are certain videos should not be duplicated, and then published on a website without first acquiring consent.

It's happened to me as well. People find ways to duplicate my videos, and they put it on their website without me knowing about it.

If you are using Youtube, make sure the embed option is disabled.
By disabling the embed option, you are making it harder, for people to duplicate your video.

Is it illegal to post a video of someone on the internet without them knowing?

It depends largely on what the video shows, plus where and how it was filmed. For example, if you were standing on a public street and filming people as they pass by - no problem. However, if you began to follow one of those people and film everything they did, this could easily be viewed as harassment and stalking. So if the person becomes aware of you and decides to report you, your video will probably be confiscated before you even have a chance to post it online. As for any charges against you - it would depend on whether you already have a record or not.Another scenario. If you film your guests at a private party - and they see you filming and are fine with that - it is fine to post the footage online. It’s doubtful that may people will want to view it apart from those who were actually at the party. However let’s suppose that, at this party, you happen to stumble across someone in an unlocked bedroom or bathroom, and they are in a state of undress. If you filmed them and posted this online without their permission (which - let’s face it - they would be unlikely to give) this would most likely be illegal. You might insist that they had given you their permission - but who is likely to believe you in such circumstances. If you say they can’t remember because they were drunk - well, they weren’t in a state to give permission, were they? It’s wise to ask yourself why you want to post a video of someone without their permission. I can think of a few possibilities that are both reasonable and just. If, for example, you had filmed a social injustice or crime taking place (e.g. workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying of any description) then posting on the internet might be a wake-up call for the perpetrators and a warning to those who might interact with them in future.

Why is it legal to post videos of other people on the internet?

Generally, if you profit from some image/video then things are different from the situation in which you don't. So if you capture an image/video of a person in public or a public place (e.g., buildings, parks, etc.) then you don't need permission unless you profit from it.So formal "consent" (as I understand it) functions as a "declaration of release" of any claim to your images or videos. They can be replaced by "consent" which obligates you to acknowledge (e.g., financially) the participation of the persons captured. But there's a wrinkle: A person can always claim that they have been "injured" in some way (e.g., by not being compensated) by your image/video. So people in your images/videos can still sue you (whether you have their consent or not).So ... If you don't profit from it there's nothing to share and if you don't harm anyone then there's no liability.Note: The rules vary in different countries.

Can I make money on YouTube by uploading other people’s videos such as cartoons or TV shows?

Unless you have (written) permission from the owner of the content you cannot upload other people’s videos such as cartoons and TV shows, especially if they are copyrighted by the owner. If you do upload copyrighted material you could get copyright strikes on your account and often if they do not take the video down they will monetize it but all of the money you make on that video goes to the owners of the content. You can potentially purchase a license so you can use this content or use content that is licensed under the creative commons license.Find out more about the creative commons from YouTube here: Creative Commons

Can I press charges if someone took a sexual video of me without my consent?

I have recently been made aware that my ex took a video of me performing a sexual act without my permission. I had no idea he even filmed me.

I now have downloaded the video on my phone as proof. But am I able to press charges? He said it'll come down to "he said, she said" and I won't win.
