Can Someone Give 3 Reasons Why Media Does Not Lead Youth To Behave In Violent Ways

Does Media Violence Cause Violent Crime?

I don't think media causes violent crimes, but they do influence violent crimes. Take for example gangster rap. When gangster rap was introduced, gang activity and the number of gangs grew. To be honest, I think music has the most influence on people and the way they act.

However, I don't think all media influences violence. The point is, anyone who commits a act of violence, is a violent person to begin with. It like the saying "guns don't kill people, people kill people".

How does society influence one's behavior?

There are unlimited ways in which society influences behaviour. This can also differ in different cultures. After all we are social creatures who are very much shaped by external factors. Some ways society can influence behaviour includes:- pressures from society may restrict you to doing jobs you may not like, in order to meet societal expectations of success, status, financial stability, gender roles, etc.- society prevents you from committing morally wrong acts. We are never born perfect and each of us have banes. However, due to fear of ostracism/punishment we refrain from committing crimes deemed as wrong by society.- it limits our behaviours, as we fear of being judged. For instance, we don't scratch our buttocks in public even if they're itchy. - it can cause us to lie. In order to meet society's expectations and feel dignified/proud in society, some people lie about their achievements.- it can cause people to fear exposing their character in public. Some homosexuals are afraid to come out for fear of condemnation, etc.

How does social media affect our lives?

Media plays very a important role and has influence in virtually every aspect of our lives. It is considered as the best source to know about the happenings of world. Newspaper, magazine, radio, television and internet are the different types of media. It greatly affects our lives because media has the power to influence our thoughts. This influence is sometimes positive and sometimes negative.Positive effects:Earth has become a global village due to media. We can know about any part of the world within minutes through television and internet. Media is the best way to spread knowledge, information and news from one part of the world to the other.Media educates the people to know about their basic rights and how to use them. It is also a link between the government and people because all the policies and activities of government are conveyed through media.Education programs help the people to learn anything through internet, television and radio. Children can develop their skills and intellect by watching these programs because audio and visual media makes it quite easy to understand.Advertisements help us to know the different products in the market and we can easily make our choices according to our needs.Weather forecast programs tell us about the weather so that we can take precautions or plan accordingly.Negative effects :Media is the most influential one for the people to resort violence. Studies have suggested that the exposure to violence on television, movies and video games make the children more aggressive, fearful, less trusting and more accepting of violence. This does not mean that they will start bringing weapons in the school but they will be more aggressive and less trusting towards their friends, teachers and siblings.Sex and violence in media also lead towards the sex crimes in the society. It traumatizes youngsters which result in abuse in the home, streets, towards children etc. Some advertisements try to influence the people by telling them the importance of branded items. As a result children and youngsters become status conscious and thinks that by using these items they can show their high status in the society. To fulfill their needs or to impress others they many times go violent to get money.Every coin has two sides, similarly Media has positive and negative effects.

Are there any studies on how violent video games affect children?

Hi Mike,

The answer to your question is yes, although many of these studies have not taken into account the psychological impacts over really long periods of time (20-30 years). Whereas some studies say that violent video games impact children with increased agression, others state the opposite. It really depends on the child and his family circumstances. With the increased violence in the media as well as videogames, we may believe that crime is on the rise, when it is actually stagnant. Ultimately it is up to the parents to decide whether their child is able to determine between reality and make believe, which is the biggest factor in a videogame negatively affecting them.

What are the six types of risk behaviour amongst teenagers?

The world has definitely changed over the years. In 2018 you definitely have to worry about what teens do rather than in the 70’s.In my opinion here are some risk behaviors amongst teenagers today. The Internet. It is a dangerous place. It is filled with things kids should not see (or even adults). It is easy to access if you are not careful and it can lead to grave consequences if you do or see something you shouldn’t have.Social Media. This is part of the Internet however I believe this should have a point of its own. Almost all teens have it these days and I must say, it is a competition to be the best. This creates conflicts which can lead to things like bullying, break up friendships, or drama.Drama. Teens have a habit of taking a fact or opinion and being overly obsessed and dramatic with it. Some teens even like to create drama just for the fun of it. This can lead to physical fights or even mental breakdowns. It can definitely lead people to say things they don’t mean to say, and then they can’t take it back.Drugs or alcohol. Yes, it’s obvious but true. Teens are curious and want to do things they aren’t supposed to do. They may even try it just so they “fit in”. (That’s not how it works kids!) once they try it then they are more likely to become addicted and do reckless things.High School Hierarchy. This is what I like to call the popularity system. Teens believe you must do certain things or look a specific way in order to be popular and have a lot of “friends”. This can lead them to step out of their comfort zone and into the “I probabaly shouldn’t be doing this but I have to” zone.Experimentations. Teens are often curious and want to try things they shouldn’t be doing until they are older. (Or ever) This can lead them to behave abnormally because they become secretive and closed off.Hope this helped :)
