Can The Police Really Do Anything

Can I call the police?

My mom and dad has been drinking , everytime they drink together my dad brings up old stuff and sometimes new stuff and makes a big deal out of the little things and accuse my mom of cheating when she has been nothing but faithful , she has been taking hits and punches from him for years , I really want my mom to leave him and I tell her everytime to but she keeps letting him back into the house knowing me or my siblings doesn’t like him , he hasn’t done anything for me or my siblings he eats up all of our food and uses our soap and lays in my mom bed and all he does when he’s sober is just keep his distance from us but when he’s not sober he’s horrible he’s a downer , today my dad hit my mom on the side of her neck and I wanna call the police but they both been drinking and I’m afraid they both will go to jail what should I do ? Especially considering the fact that she keeps just forgiving him and letting him back in .

What can the police really do during a noise complaint?

This depends on the ordinances in your jurisdiction. Where I worked, the noise ordinance hours were from 2300 hours to 0700 hours - that meant that if I, as a police officer, heard disturbing noise emanating beyond the property lines of a given residence, I could unilaterally issue a citation to the offender without the need for a complaintant (attention apartment dwellers - your property lines are literally your walls, so mind your music). The logic is that, given these hours are when the vast majority of the populace is trying to sleep, I can act in the interest of the city at large in enforcing the noise ordinance. However, during all other hours, in order for me to issue a citation I have to have an individual victim - that is, someone who will sign a citation and have their name attached to an official police report, saying that their peace was disturbed by the activity of the offending party. I can then issue the citation and give the offender a court date. However, it seldom came to this, because:Your name and contact information are included in the police report, and your signature is on the ticket. Since the offender is probably a neighbor, they're going to know exactly who cost them a trip to court - so don't expect a Christmas card this year. By signing the ticket, you are in effect agreeing to testify in court as the plaintiff in the case. Judges work when you probably do - in the middle of weekdays. Are you miffed enough about the dubstep session next door to take time away from work to testify about it in court?I usually highlighted these facts when someone raised a righteous finger in the air and declared that they were PRESSING CHARGES (I think some people just loved hearing themselves say this phrase - it must be something about the hissing you have to do to get 'pressing' out). Some people thought I was just trying to shirk a report, but I'm not wasting the prosecutor's time on a one-off incident if the victim isn't going to cooperate in six months when this thing gets a court date. I mean, can you remember anything you were angry about six months ago? Thus, if it's the dead of night and the noise is obnoxious, the officer may issue a ticket themselves, especially if they've already been to that location for noise already. However, you can sign a complaint for peace disturbance at any time, given you're willing to forfeit cordial relations with your neighbors and answer a subpoena to testify in court.

Do the police really "protect and serve" ?

Yes I asked this question because the majority of times,I see the police pulling people over for nothing, beating people up,or just hanging out at Dunkin Dounuts.I was just wondering if they really do what they claim to do.

Do police really care if i'm out past curfew?

(im 13) if i'm out at 11 pm - 3am just minding my own business and not doing anything wrong and i'm out past curfew, do the police care? will they stop and tell me to go home or write me up and take me home??? just wondering because ive seen many cop cars drive by past curfew and not pull over.

Can campus police really give you a ticket?

since the road/parking lot at walmart is not owned, funded or maintained by texas (txdot) police cannot give you a ticket for running a stop sign. they CAN for parking in a handicapped spot but thats different .. handicapped spots are required.. stop signs arn't.. same with the annoying spots for "pregnant woman" at the mall.. you can park there all day and they cant do anything about it because it isnt against the law.. and it is sexiest agains men.. because we cant get pregnent :)

Does Indian police really help tracing lost mobile phones?

Yes, they do.My sister bought a smartphone and it got stolen from her college bag while she was performing practicals under 2 months of purchase. She filed a complaint in the nearest Police Station giving all the information and IMEI number of the phone. The police officer was so much helpful in all the matter. He told us that they’ll start tracking after one month as it’s common that thief switches off the phone as soon as he stole it and hardly switch it on fearing of receiving calls and tracing by police, either he’ll start using it after some days or sell it to someone. We kept in touch with that police officer asking him about the phone, everyone used to tell us that police will not trace it as they get lots of such complaints on daily basis or they’ll keep the phone even if they find it, as it was a smartphone (Those were the days smartphone was a new thing to the world).Almost after 4 months and chasing the police officer quite a few times, we got a call from Police Station that the phone is found and we can collect it. We asked them about the thief but they denied any info. We thanked them and came home back.Phone was in the good condition, only memory card was missing. I switched on the phone and checked the gmail app to get the name of the user. A little search on the social media gave us all the information of the thief. He was from a nearby small town and was pursuing MBA. And from that my sister told that the day phone got stolen from her bag, there was some MBA exams were going on and students from other colleges were present.Police must have fined him a heavy amount for not arresting. The police officer told that its easy to trace a mobile phone in today’s world using IMEI number if the phone is not switched off. He also told us that, if you find any phone left by someone mistakenly, even if its a basic phone, don’t keep it with you. Either call someone from its contact list to inform them or submit it to nearby police station. We are happy that the police in India are not as bad as we think of them.
