Can This Keep You From Joining The Military Specifically The Army

Can bi polar keep me from joining the military?

Yes and no.I scored high on my asvab, had recruiters calling me all over. I was ready to serve our country. Then they found out I was on zoloft. If you are taking any kind of psychotrophic medication, they require you to follow psychiatric care, be clear of medication for 2 yrs with clearance from a psychiatrist. If you're not already on medications and have no "public" record of being bi-polar, go for it!But maybe I'm wrong, this was 15 yrs ago, and since, mental health awareness has come a long way.Either way, if you're currently on medication, do not stop without advice from a dr. Doing so could danger your health/life.Hopefully someone with more current knowledge of recruiting one with a mental health concern could help.

Can you join the military if you have asthma, specifically the USMC?

It depends on the severity of your asthma. If you can run for 100/200/300M obviously you will be gassed, but can you sustain your breathing reasonably or no? Will you be able to operate without access to an inhaler or no?If you are in a firefight and start breaking down and need to control your breathing instead of training down range it’s a definite no unless you get back to an operational capacity FAST.Anything to an extent can be waived, except cancer unless you’ve been in remission for a VERY long time and have a positive prognosis. If you can prove you are able to fight and not hinder our ability for mission success, doc has the final say to waive it in your physical, and then it’s up to whomever to accept the waiver and let you in or not.

What US military branch can I join as a legally blind person?

According to the common US military enlistment standards,Visiona. Current distant visual acuity of any degree that does not correct with spectacle lenses to at least one of thefollowing (367) is disqualifying:(1) 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other eye.(2) 20/30 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye.(3) 20/20 in one eye and 20/400 in the other eye. Therefore, if you are legally blind (which is generally defined as 20/200 in your better eye) than you would be ineligible for enlistment. However, if you are only legally blind without correction, and correction does bring you within the standards listed above then you would be eligible for enlistment with any of the military services.Keep in mind that specific jobs have more stringent criteria. So, while you may qualify for some jobs, your choices will be more limited than someone without vision difficulties.AlternativesIf you are ineligible for military service, you may wish to volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the Coast Guard Auxiliary (CGAUX), or a State Defense Force (SDF).These are congressionally-mandated, state-supported non-military, non-paying, volunteer positions that allow you to support the work of the US military. Their standards are generally much more relaxed when compared to the military.

If I have eczema, will I be disqualified from joining the military?

Yes, Current or history of atopic dermatitis or eczema after the 9th birthday is disqualifying and I have linked the Navy's Manual of Medicine chapter on medical qualifications below. All branches have similar medical requirements in this regard. The above paragraph being stated this is usually an extremely easy waiver to get so don't lie to the doctor.According to the current Naval guidelines(the Navy actually tends to be the strictest branch medically since they operate in the most isolated environments): Psoriasis, eczema, recurrent rashes, or atopic dermatitis that may be worsened by the work environment to the extent that function is impaired or unacceptable risk of secondary infection is incurred are disqualifying. In laymen's terms this means that if it can be controlled with basic over the counter measures without causing an infection (which is the vast majority of patients) you should be fine.Check chapter 15 of the link below.http://www.med.navy.mil/directiv...

Can you join the military if you have dysgraphia?

My backup plan if I can't get a scholarship is to try to get the marine core or army to pay for school, will mild dysgraphia DQ me? It only effects my handwriting speed and neatness, I also have mild ADD but my doctor is predicting that I outgrow it by 19 or 20. I want to be a scout sniper and I understand that its extremely difficult to become one. Would ADD/Dysgraphia DQ me from that position?

Can you join the army allergic to bees? ?

No problem. I have a very severe reaction to bee stings and can't count the number of times I've visited the emergency room, especially while in the military. Nearly died a couple times when I received multiple stings. Just make sure you keep your bee sting kit with you at all times, especially when in the field. I also carried Benadryl pills with me at all times. Amazing what those little flying creatures do to some of us.

Good luck with your education and hope you join up. A truly wonderful experience ahead of you.
