Can U Be A Us Citizin And Live In Another Contory

Can a US citizen living in another country still be drafted?

The US will never institute another draft. There are too many individuals trying to get into the service (we’re actually overmanned) and we haven’t had difficulty even in 2003 with recruiting. The years of a draft are long past; in the case that a draft were to be initiated, given that New Zealand is not hostile to the US, they would likely be treated no differently as any other draftee and be order to report for testing and selection.

Can a USA citizen live in another country and still receive their Social Security Disability benefits?

Yes, but there are a few complicating factors. Depending on the country outside the u.s., you may need to continue to receive your checks/payments through your domestic bank account and then figure out a way to access those funds from outside the country. There are a very few countries in which you may not establish residency and continue to collect SSDI, among them North Korea. Cuba used to be on the list but my guess is that's changed. A few notes: American nationals must continue to file personal income tax returns with the IRS even when they reside outside the country. Depending on the amount of your SSDI benefits and any other income you may have, this may apply to you. Ignorance is not a valid defense. For those people who are able to return to work fully or partly, the U.S. has reciprocity agreements with several countries (I only know for sure about Ireland). This means that if you are legally resident and working in Ireland and are also a U.S. Citizen, your contributions to Social Security through your payment of payroll taxes in Ireland also counts towards your benefits in the U.S. when/if you return. You just need to be very transparent with both governments as to your whereabouts and activities. The Social Security Administration website (www.ssa.gov) has very good FAQ's and info. on this and many other topics.

Is is true that if you become a citizen of another country you give up your status as a citizen of the US?

No.

The only way to give up your American citizenship is to renounce it to a government official. America recognizes dual citizenship.

Other countries sometimes do require you to have given up your citizenship before becoming a citizen of there country, the UK isn't one of these.

Are you considered a traitor if you are a US citizen who decides to become a citizen of another country?

I guess it depends on why and how you leave the US. You are just leaving because you like the UK. No problem with that.

Now if you're some liberal sour puss that publicly states they are seeking asylum in Canda (or some other place), because the US has become a fascist state or whatever, then that person would be a traitor.

I could certainly see living in another country, especially western europe, but giving up my American citizenship? I don't think I could do that. But whatever works for you is good.

If you get a citizenship from another country do you lose your american citizenship?

If you are natural-born citizens of the US, the only way you can "lose" your US citizenship is to go to a US consulate in a foreign country, prove you have citizenship in another country, and formally renounce your US citizenship. There is paperwork to sign as well. You remain subject to paying US income taxes on worldwide income from all sources for up to 10 years after renouncing US citizenship. The IRS figures nobody would give up US citizenship unless they were tax evaders, so you continue to be subject to US taxes.

If you can get Honduran citizenship, you are still considered by the US to be US citizens unless you actively renounce it, you must enter & exit only on your US passports, and you must pay US income taxes on worldwide income from all sources.

Can I buy a hangun? US Citizen living outside US?

Can a US citizen receive welfare while living outside US?

The United States has no public aid programs for US citizens living abroad. Most US public aid programs are administered by the several states and territories, and are thus payable only to individuals who actually reside in a state or territory. A citizen living abroad is not residing in any US state or territory and is thus not eligible for state-administered assistance. The only financial assistance that the US government will extend to a US citizen abroad who is destitute is a loan to cover the individual’s cost to return to the United States. In the case of a destitute child having no locatable family willing and able to take custody, the child will be repatriated to the child welfare authorities for any US state with which the child has some tangible connection, and made a ward of that state. The costs of repatriation in this case are covered by the US Department of Health and Human Services; the child’s further welfare will thereafter be the responsibility of the state to which the child was repatriated.US citizens living abroad may or may not be eligible for public assistance from the authorities in the place where they reside; that’s a matter of local law.
