Can We Use Ordinary Dvd To Play Hd Movie Why Must Use Blue Ray Or Hd Dvd

Can you play 4K bluerays on a standard HD TV?

The short answer is ‘Yes you can play 4K Blu-ray DVD’s on a 720p or 1080p HDTV’. Unfortunately, as Gary also mentioned, you will not enjoy the full experience of the 4K Blu-ray movie images being broadcast to your HDTV.Your TV will only display the image at it’s highest resolution (either 720p or 1080p - not 4K).To truly experience a 4K resolution movie image from your 4K Blu-ray, you need to connect your 4K Blu-ray player to a 4K HDTV.I briefly cover some details on the different modern HDTV resolutions in a blog post about ‘What size TV should I get?’ based upon the resolution of the HDTV and the viewing distance. If you decide to get a 4K HDTV, you might want to read that article before shopping. I hope that helps.

Does the xbox hd player use blue ray?

Can You Burn Blu Ray or HD Movies to a regular DVD disc? (without losing video quality)?

Yes and No.

The basic issue is how much capacity there is on a DVD vs a Blu-ray disk. Blu-ray requires about 6X the space to record the same amount (run time) of information as a DVD. Therefore, simplistically speaking (I'm ignoring some confounding issues) you would get about 1/6th of a Blu-ray disk onto a DVD. There are other issues, like whether the HD info on a DVD would be recognized by, or if recognized, output by a DVD player.

There are formats that can give pseudo HD, but then DVD upconverted on a good scaler is pretty good pseudo HD anyway.

Can I play a digital copy of my blu ray movie on a regular dvd player?

Rarely. Sometimes the digital copy is in DVD format but usually the disc is designed to be put into a PC. The video can then be downloaded from the disc and played back from the hard drive or it can be re-encoded (if not already MPEG-2) and burned to a DVD for playback on a DVD player compatible with writeable DVD formats.

IRT IQ - MKV is a container format, not a codec. Blu-ray movies are generally MPEG-4 AVC-HD, VC-1 or, in some cases, MPEG-2.

Will an HD-DVD play on a regular DVD player (pre HD/ bluray)?

HD-DVD is not a DVD, and won't play in a regular DVD player. They will only play in a HD-DVD player. HD-DVD was discontinued last January. No one makes HD-DVD players or discs anymore.

What is the difference between a regular DVD player and a Blu Ray player?

The information on a Blu Ray disc is stored in a manner that allows it told hold about 4 times as much data than a DVD. To write and extract the date, the blue laser is required, which is where the name "Blu Ray" comes from.

Because their is far more data on the Blu Ray disc, your movies on them can have much higher resolution and superior audio.

The question is, do you really need a Blu Ray player. If you do not have a large TV (36" or bigger), then it is unlikely you will notice much difference at all in the higher quality images. If you do not have a decent surround sound audio system, then it's unlikely that you will notice an audio difference. And no, the home theater in a box systems do not qualify as a decent surround sound system.

Which is better: Blu-ray or DVD? Why?

Which is better: a knife or a sword? …a car or a truck? …a boat or a yatch? The answer for all?Depends on: What you need…If you’re in the kitchen, you’ll need the knife… but, if you’re a musketeer (maybe one of Dumas), probably the sword. If you’re going to the office, you need a car. If you’re moving from one city to another with all your stuff, you´ll need the truck.…and so on.Bluray is a big brother of the dvd. Quality of image is similar, except on the screen’s size (resolution).Dvd top resolution (screen size) is 848x572 in most of dvd players. So, if you have a tv with more than that size, it will need to ‘inflate’ the image to fit.Example: if you have a 704x400 dvd video (very common) and a 1280x720 tv (also very common), the image will need to almost double its size to fit on screen(704 -> 1280 and 400 -> 720). Because of this, the space (distance) between pixels will increase, making the image not as clear as a bluray that matches exactly the 1280x720 without needing to expand. The same goes for a 1920x1080 tv, only greater.DVD and bluray disks are not only to be used as for dvd original codecs (mpeg2), but also can use pc video codecs. For example:DVD players can read videos burnt in dvd disks using Xvid and divx codecs. And because of this, you can store in one disk 2 or maybe 3 movies with the same quality as the original (mpeg2).Bluray can also play dvd disks with xvid and dvix videos (bye bye cinavia). They can also recognize mp4 and mkv. And, it can also read bluray disks with all four video codecs (xvid, divx, mp4, mkv). Some brands can read other codecs (wmv, flv, etc). So… there is little chance for dvds or blurays to die soon. Not while people are massively using them and still buying.NOTE: I almost forgot… latest dvds and blurays, have internet connection and usb input to use usb memory sticks and/or hard disk drive (with videos).

Blu Ray players - will they play normal DVDs?

Yes, but not at what *I* would call "much higher quality" as another user says. It will be slightly better, because the Blu Ray player will upscale the resolution to HD resolution... taking the DVD from 720x480 (480p) pixels to 1920x1080 (1080p) or 1280x720 (720p)... but it's just scaling the pixels up and blurring them (interpolation). You aren't actually getting better resolution from the DVD.

Your TV does this interpolation on it's own when you plug in a regular DVD player. It's just that a Blu Ray player *tends* to have a better scaler than most HDTVs. Note also that some Blu Ray players have better scalers than others.

Also note that if you use a regular DVD player, it should be a progressive scan DVD player, plugged in with component video. If you use composite video or S-Video, you will get a lower quality signal than 480p (480i or worse... possibly much worse)

Another user recommends a PS3 as a Blu Ray player. From what I've heard, it is the lowest quality Blu Ray player available. I have no personal experience this way, though... just check into it before you go that route.

And hopefully you have an HDTV... if you don't this is all moot.
