Can You Access Imdb Or Has It Shutdown

What are your thoughts on imdb.com shutting down their message boards?

Honestly, I'm bummed. I'll still use IMDB, most probably, since I use it for other features like news and such, but it seems weird to me too that they'd close the boards without putting anything else in its place. I get that it's an old interface and all, and I guess the bullying and trolling got way out of hand (not surprising) but still.

I love movies, and I love to talk about them. I mean, you can only talk about movies so much IRL, before people start asking you to change the subject...now where am I s'posed to go to do that?

Should IMDB shutdown?

IMDB shutdown the message boards on 20th February 2017 after 16 years,The Message Boards were very popular the website used to have a lot of users and they would discuss movies actors and actresses on the message boards, now that the message boards a lot of users left they deleted their accounts. So what? The IMDb is a movie database, collecting information about movies and related data. Around the time when Amazon bought the site, they increased the professional and social aspects of the site, but the core remains the database. And after the removal of the forums, will remain the reason for its existence. The users - especially the entitled ones whining the loudest - are free to start their own discussion boards (thousands already exist) to discuss the topics. IMDb does not owe anyone a forum mechanism, it was a privilege, the privilege was abused, and then taken away when the negatives outweighed the positives. Complain to the abusers who caused them to make the decision. I hear the front page of the internet is a popular collection of forums to substitute for the IMDb ones.

Have you participated in IMDB forums before they were shut down?

Yes, it was good to a degree. There was a lot of gossip on there and some people who “knew” the celebrity. A lot of information about next seasons, new films and facts about old films. But there was so much bitchiness and arguing. I can understand why they ended up shutting it down.

What's the Best Movie Forum / Message Board now that IMDb Shut Down?

IMDb shut down its popular message boards a few months ago so now I need a new place to go to talk about movies and tv shows. Does anyone have good recommendations? Ideally one that has a separate board for each movie and show (I've come across a few "general" movie forums but that's not what I'm looking for).

Is anyone else ticked off that the imdb is closing their message boards?

Yes, many ex-IMDb forum members were and still are upset over the closure of IMDb’s message boards. When you shut down a decades-old community on such short notice, and for what many believe without good reason, there will certainly be backlash. The IMDb Facebook page was littered with angry, upset users vocally expressing their discontent. In fact, many said the only reason to visit IMDb was for the message boards. There were two online petitions to keep the message boards alive that received many signatures:Petition to keep the IMDB messageboards going (12,000+ signatures)IMDb : Stop IMDB from disabling the message boards. (6,000+ signatures)The boards provided millions of unique perspectives on any movie or tv show you could think of and to delete them permanently would be a tragedy for worldwide movie discourse. That’s why MovieChat decided to archive all of the posts from IMDb for posterity. You can view all the old IMDb posts, as well as add new posts to any Movie, TV Show or Celebrity.

IMDB without the message board isn't as interesting and useful as it was before. Do you agree?

100%. The boards is what made IMDB. it was the trademark. I find more value in discussing an topic from a movie or actor rather than reading trivia of a page. Like If there was something I didn’t understand I could turn to IMDB and ask. Or if I just noticed something I could share it. Or if I just wanted to share how much I adored La La Land I could do so and get respons from others. That was the fun of community, the interaction. It was a place to go for us who loved movies and didn’t have others to talk to.Now nothing remains. Most of the features on IMDB can be found elsewhere, and much more easier to navigate as well. Trailers you can watch on YouTube, reviwes on RT and Metacritic. Or various movie sites. Trivia and goofs can be googled. Wikipedia has both cast lists, movie overview, trivia, reviwes and all posted in one article.I still use it but only to rate movies. Who know, that might be the next thing IMD decides to shut down?
