Can You Buy Moon Rocks

Where am I able to buy real Moon Rock(s)?

You can purchase a Moon Rock in three ways:

You cannot purchase any of the moon rocks acquired by NASA astronauts - its illegal. So

1. Purchase an asteroid ejecta from the moon - ie rocks put into orbit around the moon that then landed on the earth. They are technically moon rocks - i.e. rocks from the moon but are not regulated as the rocks retrieved by the NASA astronauts - good luck finding them: You can prospect for Tranquillityite (a moon rock) in eg Australia. You can probably acquire one of those for cash.

2. Since NASA / US Gov has given moon rocks to special people in overseas countries - buy one of those - that is legal - but it is illegal to rapatriate that rock to the USA.

3. Persuade the President / Vice President (who runs NASA) that you are worthy of being granted a moon rock via some space related community service of particular noteworthiness- again since the rocks were given to eg heads of state you'd have to be pretty special - or make a very hefty donation to NASA. i.e. if you pay for the Mars mission I think that's worth a pound or two of rocks.

How much would a moon rock be worth?

It could possibly be a lunar meteorite. A lunar meteorite is a piece of the moon that got blasted off the surface due to a crater-producing impact of a "regular" meteor (or other body), one that was driven upwards with enough force that it reached lunar escape velocity and fell to Earth. These are actually relatively common, though not nearly that large. If you check eBay, small slivers are selling for as little as five bucks, though there's one that's 1.19 grams-- that's like 1/24th of an ounce-- that selling for almost $5,000.

It's extremely doubtful your friend has a lunar sample from one of the Apollo or Russian Luna missions. He may think he does, but it's not likely.

Where can you buy Moon rocks in the USA?

There are two very different answers to this question -Moon rocks brought back on the Apollo missions are not for sale at any price. The first time I saw an Apollo Moon rock was when I worked at JPL. The most recent time I saw one was at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.Meteorites that came from the Moon are called tektites. They are for sale at many astronomy oriented tourist traps. Of course for any one meteorite you can’t be absolutely certain it came from the Moon so buy several. Sure enough they tend to come in little display boxes that contain several. The little display box of them I have on my desk here is from the gift shop at Xerkes Observatory in Wisconsin. Many observatories that have tourist events have gift shops that sell meteorites. They can also be purchased at some gem and mineral shows.

How much would a Moon rock be worth?

Moon rocks from the Apollo missions were not given as gifts to any individual for any reason. Some were presented to foreign governments, and some were given to museums as exhibits, but no private individual was ever gifted a genuine Apollo lunar sample. They are too precious to waste that way. Either someone scammed her or she scammed you.

Why are moon rocks worth so much?

We did not bring back a lot, during space missions, and most of the materials (of any sort) we brought back were never commercially available. The only moon rocks I have ever seen for sale were shards from collisions that made it back to Earth without the assistance of men in strange suits, or perhaps dust from astronaut gear.Moon rocks have been gifted, donated, or loaned for political and scientific reasons, but are not generally an industrial commodity. And if you land yourself a genuine article on the black market, it’s liable to be swiped by the government. There are indeed rarer and more valuable minerals, but not all of them have the sex appeal of moon rocks. Additionally, some of them have applications beyond ogling or scientific study.A final thing to mention is that going into space is fuckin’ expensive. So is transporting heavy loads of minerals and such. The complications, riskiness, and cost of mining the moon (as it were) are significant, and pertinent to the rarity and worth of moon rocks in the commercial context.

Can you buy a piece of the moon?

Original question:“Can you buy a piece of the moon?”Yes. I have some very nice parcels available with great views overlooking the Tycho crater. I can arrange financing with a nominal down payment.Oh, did you mean a piece as in moon rock? Those are not for sale however I understand that a few are unaccounted for and may be available on the black markets. Verifying the authenticity of a supposed moon rock might be difficult and you would probably get caught if you consulted with a qualified examiner.

Can I make weed brownies with moonrocks bud?

You could, but it would be a hell of a waste of moonrocks. Just so you know, moonrocks are quality bud soaked in oil, wrapped in shatter and dusted with keif. The idea is to mix different strains of cannabis into something over the top.Edibles don't need processed forms of cannabis like oil, shatter and distillates because you don't smoke or vape them. You can make edibles out of shake, all the THC is extracted usually into butter or oil and then added to whatever you are cooking. If you are fortunate enough to get moonrocks, my recommendation would be to vape them. Setting cannabis on fire really messes with the flavour and given that moonrocks are basically cannabis champagne, you wanna savour that shit. :)

How much money is 1 kg of moon rock worth?

How much something is worth depends on how much you can sell it for. However almost ALL of the moon rock that was brought back from the Apollo missions belongs to the US government - and it’s not for sale. What we know is that the cost to bring it here has been estimated at about $50,000 per gram.We do know that the tiny sliver of rock that the US government gave as a gift to the government of Honduras (0.05 grams!) was once sold for $5 million…and a few other samples that were given to various heads of state and US state governors - all from the same original “Goodwill Rock” that Apollo 17 brought back have changed hands for close to $2 million per gram.Brazil also offered their sample for sale - similar price. So - a kilogram could easily be worth around $2 billion dollars.HOWEVER: If you were thinking of investing a billion or so to go pick up a moon rock and fly it back again - you have to consider that there aren’t 1,000 people here on earth who would pay $2,000,000 for a gram of moon rock. So you’d have flooded the market - and that would cause the price to plummet. After all, it’s only the fact that this stuff is essentially unobtainable that gives it value…as soon as you make it available - poof - the value is gone.
