Can You Find Me A Good Laptop

Good laptop specs?

If you plan on doing any gaming, it would be good if you bought a laptop with a video card that has it's own dedicated memory. Look for laptops with an ATI x1600 or Nvidia 7600 graphics chips.. If you are going to use Windows Vista, choose laptops with ATI x1800 or Nvidia 7800 graphics chips. I have a 7600 on two computers, and when I tried Vista, all the games I played on xp were unplayable on Vista (on a new stronger system with that same graphics card).. This might get better with time when graphics drivers get better or Vista gets better..

Also, don't go under 1GB of ram, and I'd say 2GB if you are planning to use Windows Vista. Also, with Vista, you need a lot more power in you computer, so go for Intel Core 2 Duo processors, or AMD Athlon 64 x2 processors. (dual core processors).

If, your mainly going to use the laptop for work (papers, spreadsheets), don't concern yourself too much with graphics.. Buy a IBM (or Lenovo) laptop with a good processor, and enough RAM (as I said above) and enjoy a good software bundle and it's stability, good hardware quality and long battery life. In this case, you can probably forget about gaming (unless you buy an expensive model), but you'll enjoy a very high quality laptop with lots of speed for work, web browsing and multimedia..

To discuss these things in details and make a decision, go to a computer store and find a good clerk :)

Can you recommend a good laptop for me?

when it comes to gaming, andy the windbag does not distinguish between heavy duty gaming and casual gaming. when it comes to basic games like what your describing, any laptop will work.if everyone who needed to play any game, even simple ones, then no one would buy basic laptops.its just common sense. having said that, macbooks are excellent laptops. the air would work well for you.however if you wanted to spend less, i would go for this laptop.contact me if you need more help. jdbj32m@yahoo.com

How do I convince my dad to get me a good laptop?

Good is a relative term. If you are looking to fool your parents by telling them that programming needs a high end configuration and then eventually end up playing games on the electronic gadget is a morally wrong thing to do.Remember that he has spent a lot of time and energy to earn that amount.Remember one thing that Good cars and Good roads does not make a good driver.

Could you recommend me some good laptops for gaming?

I'm happy I questioned your original question in the comments.  I was about to recommend some laptops within the $1,000+ range. So you basically want a low level gaming laptop.  You can get away with using something like the Acer Laptop Aspire E E5, just find a model with 8GB of RAM and a speedy Core-i5 processor.  Those are generally right under the $500 price tag.  The HP Pavilion 15-p151nr is another one.  Again it has a speedy i5 processor, but many models only have 4GB of RAM, so keep that in mind for other games.  And they they're currently just over $500, I've noticed they drop under $500 from time to time. The Laptop IdeaPad Y480 is another good one for you. Again we have a i5 processor, 6GB of RAMYou have the Asus Q502LA, same rough specs as the above, but I've been seeing lots of these refurbished hit the market lately for about $470.  I'm sure you can use Google to find these laptops and moreThe minimum and recommended specs for play CS-GO are quite low, so you really don't need anything high end... Truth be told, I've ran CS-GO on a medium speed Core i3 with integrated graphics and did just fine.  The game really doesn't need much to run, and honestly with $500, you can likely get a laptop capable of running the game on max settings.  Or you can lower your budget and play on medium settings as well. Really up to you.  But you don't need a gaming laptop, to play this.

Can you suggest a good laptop for me?

You know... my very first thought is a ThinkPad W550s. ThinkPad W550s | Ultrabook & Mobile Workstation |You'd want to step up a few bits from the base model, but the upgrades aren't unreasonable:Base model: $1,259Upgrades that I would recommend:Screen: Upgrade to the 3K IPS panel (color calibrated): $200RAM: Upgrade to 8GB $80 (Or $100 if you want to do a single DIMM and leave yourself a slot open to upgrade to 16GB later.)That gets you, for $1,539, a pretty capable mobile workstation running an Intel Broadwell series CPU and an Nvidia Quadro (workstation class) GPU, which are two things that you can't get in a Macbook Pro. (At least not right now)You could throw another $280 at it for a 256GB SSD and that would boost your performance and speed, but you start to lose out on the cost savings. Believe it or not, this isn't necessarily a better value than a MBP. For $2,000 the base MBP would give you the ultra fast PCI-e SSD and 16GB of RAM along with a slightly better display. Of course, you'd have to settle for a low end gaming video card instead of a professional workstation card and the CPU would be a different animal (older and power hungrier, but generally more powerful for computationally intensive workflows.)So, if I needed to come in under the pricing of a MBP, by making a few sacrifices that probably won't hurt you too much (if at all) the Lenovo W550s could be a pretty good option. For a photographer who (like me) needs a precision color calibrated screen, it's one of my first go to options. There are other options out there, but my suggestion would be to start by looking at the W550s and then start looking around for comparable features. For a photographer, really keep your eyes out for IPS color calibrated screens... they're going to run you into more expensive laptops fairly quickly but you really, really, don't want to compromise on this feature.
