Can You Get In Trouble For Telling Someone That Its Cruel To Leave Their Dog In A Car When Its Hot

Is it illegal to leave a dog in a car unattended in New York City?

Yes it is, I live in NY and if someone sees the dogs in car alone they can and will call police.
It takes about 3 mins in 80 plus weather for dogs to die. UKC GSD breeder just lost her 2 UKC GSDS when someone closed the windows on her cab.
Personally I had to take 2 to vet yesterday .
I put on in a crate and left suv door fully opened. Locking it with leash full window open and all other windows WIDE open. Took dog one in, mean while sitting in from of window watching other dog. jacked up A/c , parked in shade.
Then when I had to put dog 2 in .
I started car locked windows in half down position and locked doors windows they could not open with paws.
Put a/c on and they both had water
ran inside and said here is my CC got to go.
i do not travel with dogs in summer other than shows or vet or beach. When we stop at fast food husband comes in places order and than goes back into car to be with a/c . if cooler under 65 we park car where i can see them at all times.
I had smoking so my hubby gets to smoke as many times as he checks on dogs and lets say thats allot.
Sun roof should not be open unless NO sun is out. IT bakes my car I hate the thing.

My parents wont let me get a dog- i've tried EVERYTHING, I need a last resort!?

Sorry to burst your bubble. I really appreciate that you have volunteered for your humane society and I think that is a great option for you. If you talk to the people you work with there you will find out that a dog should never be left in a car no matter what the temperature is. If you are in school and both your parents work the dog will be alone most of the time. Try not to be selfish, would it really be fair to the dog to be alone most of the time. Be patient, you will grow and eventually be on your own and then you can get a dog.

Is it illegal to leave a dog in a car on a cool evening in indiana?

75 degrees outside radiates about 35 degrees hotter in just 30 minutes. Heat stroke is usually fatal to a dog and most die before you even know they have suffered from it. Your husband is right to get your dog checked. I'm sorry not to be kind on this post but ignorance is no excuse. Animals and children die every summer due to ignorance. In the future, leave the dog at home in hot weather even if you're just running to the store.

Leaving a dog in a car?

Can't answer your question. You'd have to be more specific about "not-so-hot" (actual temperature, if the sun is out (can dramatically increase the temp. in the car), what is a "cool" day? To you in Florida, 75 degrees might be a "cool" day, and no, I wouldn't leave a dog in a car in that temp. Generally I draw the line around 65 degrees, 70 if the day is cloudy (and I check frequently to make sure the sun doesn't make an unexpected appearance). Unless your dog is in a crate, you can't roll the windows half-way down or he could escape (or someone could reach in and unlock the door and steal him). Maybe 2 to 3 inches.

At night, I've left my dogs in the car all night (at a motel that wouldn't allow pets). Again, depends on the temp. and I check on them.

Five minutes? NOTHING you buy will take only 5 minutes.....

"What if you were to need to go into a store for less than 20 minutes, and you leave the car running with the windows rolled up and the air conditioner blasting, doors locked "

NEVER leave the car running with dogs inside. NEVER.

"if you saw a dog in a car with the windows down and he had a water bowl next to him, but it was warm outside, what would you do?"
I would look at how it is affecting THE DOG. Is he just sitting there, or at most lightly panting? Then I'd mind my own business and leave. If he was panting hard or in distress, I'd get the license #, go back into the store and ask Customer Service to page his owner. If he was in serious distress, if the windows are down far enough I can get my arm in, I'd unlock the door and take the dog out--otherwise I'd call the police to break into the car.

Another thing to keep in mind is that when people say they're in a store for 20 minutes, it's usually more like 30 to 40. And you never know if there might be a line-up at the check-out counter. Not a problem if you have someone with you (they can go out and check on the dogs, and get the air-conditioning going if need be). But if you're alone....

EDIT:

I just thought of a real easy barometer for you: if when you first get into your car, it's warm enough that you need the air conditioner on, then it's too warm to leave dogs in your car. Assuming of course that the car is out "in the elements" and not sitting in your garage.

Leaving dog in car overnight, maximum outside temperature?

The nightime temperatures would be in the safe range. However, it is very dangerous to leave her unattended in your car.
There are pet friendly motels in every country and on every route. Are your reservations already set or prepaid?
If you google 'pet friendly travel' you will see ooodles of accommodations that allow pets, along with maps.
If it is too late to change motels, you should call each one, and tell them you are just there overnight, and that your dog is quiet and well-mannered, you may find that they will make an exception..Just ask to speak with the manager. Motels are suffering in this time of high gas prices, and are eager for business.
We often stay in rest stops with our dogs, when it is just a day or two of travel...Not every motel will allow SIX dogs..

Law about leaving a dog in a car in Ohio?

I know it is illegal here in PA. I am not sure about OH, but it should be illegal EVERWHERE. This is one thing that absolutely gets my dander up! The police here in PA do not know the law. I have had experience with this.
I put post it notes on cars all the time. People seem to think that dogs are super beings. They are actually less equipped to deal with the heat than we are. In my note I tell the person to sit in their car for 7 minutes with the windows up and see how it feels. If it is too hot for them it is definitely way too hot for their dogs and I add SHAME ON YOU! I am acutally going to print these notes out and have them handy in my car.

Is there anything I can do to help a dog locked in a hot car?

If you come across a car with a dog locked inside, time is essential. The dog could literally die of heat stroke in minutes. First, it may seem silly, but see if the car is unlocked. If so, open it. If it is locked, try to find a police officer, or if at a mall or shopping center—a security guard. If necessary, find something heavy and break a window to get the dog out. (Make certain to hold onto the collar so the dog doesn’t spook or run away, although it will probably be too hyperthermic to do either) The owner may be angry, but the dog will be alive. If you have water or other cool/cold liquid available, pour some on the dog’s tongue and on its paw pads as well as under its “arm pits” and groin area to help bring the body temperature down quickly since dogs cannot sweat through their skin like humans. I would also call the police in case the owner becomes irate when they return to find their car has been “vandalized”.

Is it cruel for my dog to sleep in the garage at night time?

We have a springer spaniel, he is 8 months old, we had him from 6 weeksd of age, he is now a lovely family dog, funny trained ect ect.
before we moves house 1 week ago he slept in the kitchen at night, now we have moved we have a garage he sleeps in there in his cozy bed with ample blankets, toys ect, we put him in about 11pm and let him out in the garden at 7am, of for his morning walk then.
Just had a email from my brother telling me i am cruel for putting him in the garage at night!! i have never had dogs, always cats, my fiance grew up with dogs, who always slept in the stables or the garage too, so we do the same with ours,
My thoughts are, this kitchen is tiny, so would he get too hot in the summer enclosed in there, and is he happier in the garage, cooler ect, he doesnt bark at all in there and still seams his usual happy self.
i feel my family are always telling my i do everything wrong with my dog, and constantly reminding me od the do's and donts, even though i already know this, commenting me badly on how i live life with my dog!!
what do you think?
obviously i will re assess the situation as the winter nights come along.
