How can I get my contractor license quickly, and is there any agency out there that can help prep my papers?

I want much bigger paying jobs than what i'm getting now and, in the past I turned down a few because of this. I know by getting the license I have plenty of more jobs and higher pay too. I have a good strong crew that know what they are doing and mostly all the tools to build a house. What is Microsoft Excel used for in the work place?

Excel is a complex program. One one hand it is great for tracking financials, running comparison on numbers, will figure out just about any formula that you want to do from simple addition to running an average of every 3rd number in a list. then it will graph it.

I use it to track orders, since I can sort by date, time, product, dollar amount, city, state, phone number - basically anything that I want. I can even pull certain bits of information from other Excel files and put the results into another file.

You can even perform complex math function (sine, cosine, and a lot of other things that I don't understand) on things based on criteria that you specify.

I also use it to track sales, to maintain a budget, hours worked by contractors, benefits amounts. Geeze there are so many things that it can do, mostly related to numbers.

It is probably the most valuable tool that an office can use if you are concerned with numbers.

This is how most complanies use Excel.

It is also a fairly good database (but not as good as Access - if you are sticking to MS products).

Pivot tables will allow you to see only what you want to see, graph it, and help you analyze the results.

If you have more specific questions, please contact me through my profile and I will give you the details for what you are looking for.

Original owners of house never had inspections to complete building permit, now we are in violation ...?

You are responsible, as the present owner, for ensuring you comply with building codes. However, there are two things to keep in mind.

First, you are only responsible for making sure the previous work meets the building codes that were in place at the time the permits were taken out (that is, in 1985). Don't get suckered into bringing your whole house up to date.

Second, you probably have recourse against the sellers, if you can find them. If we are talking about a few hundred dollars, it probably isn't worth pursuing. But if we are talking about several thousand dollars, you may want to see if you can track down the former owners and sue them.

EDIT: On second thought, if we are talking about considerable money, I'd sue everybody in one big law suit. I'd sue all of the previous owners, back to the original one who did the work. I'd also sue the permitting authority for allowing the non-compliance to go unabated for 25 years. Your hope is to either get the money to bring the house into compliance from the original owner, or to get a court order compelling the issuance of an occupancy permit from the county/state.

What is the role of planning engineer in construction projects?

Role of a Planning Engineer: A role of a Planning Engineer is to mainly support the Project Manager and Project team with information to execute the project in time and within the budget allocated. This information is used by Project Managers in taking decisions for a smooth execution of the project.A planning engineer creates the information required by first detailing the activities involved in the project, fitting those in the timelines, calculating the materials, manpower and machinery required to execute these activities in the time frame decided.Since there are always deviations in the plan, the planning engineer also has to take periodic updates and revise the schedules to meet the targets.I know these things look like textbook definitions, So I will simply put the Roles & Responsibilities of the Planning Engineer in General for your better understanding.Preparation of Project Schedule (Tools used: Primavera, MS Project etc.,) covering entire scope and within defined timelinesCalculating Optimal Material requirement, Manpower Requirement (of various trades) & Machinery RequirementPlan for budget required for the project and create various budget heads to document and monitor the expensesCreate Cashflow analysis (ie., Expected billing (cash inflow) vs Expected cash outflow)Co-ordinate with various departments like Engineering (who provides working drawings), Procurement (who buys materials), Contracts (who awards contracts & raise any issues with the client), quality (who maintains ) & Commissioning DepartmentsCollect periodic updates and prepare daily, weekly and monthly updates of the projectCreate variance reports (Schedule Variance and Cost Variance - usually Earned Value Method (EMV) is used for this) at various stages of the project to analyse deviationsCreate Project Closing Reports and LearningsAlso, these job roles are only applicable for large scale projects. In small projects, usually planning engineer does almost all the office work that includes and is not limited to Hiring Contractors, Issuing Work Orders, Bill Certifications, client coordination, client billing,Hope my answer helped.
