Can you own a wolf and pass it off as a Husky?
Yes you can. Happens all the time. You can buy them easily just by watching the classifieds if there is a breeder in your area. My youngest son has a wolf/malamute mix. He is 95% wolf and the most beautiful creature you have ever seen . He is HUGE and people immediately freak out when they see he is a wolf. It's obvious in his face and legs.He is a giant teddy bear. Where you see the wild come in is not his scariness but his attitude. He does not mind what you tell him. He just looks at you and says why the hell should I ? and he goes about his business. Dogs are no where near as smart as wolves so they will do what you say, learn tricks etc in order to please you. The wolf doesn't give a damn if you're pleased or not. :).I also felt badly that Oshkai was on a heavy chain. There was no threat from him at all, but he would wander off at will because he didn't care about the humans rules. So a very interesting thing happened. We had had an experience with a pet psychic that blew our minds. So I was talking to my son one day and suggested he have Julie come out and see what Oshkai had to say. They also had some questions about their dog and two of their horses so they decided to give it a try. Julie came out and answered their other questions and then they came to Oshkai and got a BIG surprise. He told her he was not a wolf, he was a lap dog. This wasnt a reference to his heritage but to how he felt about himself. He said that he didn't chase things and kill them and he liked people BUT if something didn't change in him being chained up outside all the time he was going to just choose to die because he was very unhappy. Fortunately my son and his wife listened to what she had to say and responded. They brought Oshkai into the house, bathed and brushed him and he became a house lap dog. :) when this 200 pound lap dog wants to sit on you, you know it! ! He is now very happily living in the house with 6 kids, the patience of Job and the sweetest animal you could imagine! He is so sweet and it makes me soo happy to see him so happy. Also above is a picture of him watching wrestling with my son after he became a house wolf! You can't really tell his size because he sinks so far into the couch cushions but he is HUGE and HAPPY. :) I love him to pieces!
Why does my dog follow me around the house all the time?
Dogs are not pack animals. (Update link.) And dogs certainly don't think people are other dogs. That would be a pretty nonfunctional evolution! Just consider: when the dog wants to go outside, it looks at you to open the door. It knows you can do things dogs can't do. Because you. are. not. a. dog. And it knows this.Your dog follows you because it's highly social - has a powerful emotional need for companionship - and knows that you are super-cool. You are the source of all good things in its life: food, walks, rides, treats, toys. Who knows what amazing thing will happen wherever you're going? Plus, unless you are very standoffish toward your pet, he knows that you frequently want him around anyway: often you outright call him to come see you! So he's over-fulfilling your requests: anticipating (in an admittedly self-centered way) your needs.
