Can You Keep A Turtle Near A Washing Machine

Can I wash my Nike Free sneakers in the washing machine?

I wore all white Nike Free sneakers to Coachella. I must say, my outfit was clean!! However, my Nike’s took a BEATING (mostly dust/ dirt). I was certain that I’d have to throw out my only white sneakers at the time but decided that I’d try my luck tossing them in the wash. Was I in for a surprise.Using regular detergent, warm water and a standard cycle, my Nike Free sneakers came out of the wash glistening for the most part. There was a smaller deep stain that did not come out but I was very pleased with the output, given the ridiculously dirty input.I washed the same Nike Free sneakers about a month later and the deep stain went away. Generally, I’m very pleased with the durability of this sneaker.Drying recommendation: I would avoid putting these sneakers in the dryer, they definitely shrink a bit. I would air dry them or you could try stuffing them with newspaper etc.

Do washing machines float?

No, but if you can find a huge pumpkin, you can hollow it out and paddle it upstream. In fact there are pumpkin boat races every year.

Can I put my bag in the washing machine?

Turn it inside out, zip it most of the way closed, and toss it in the machine. Maybe do a cold or warm water wash instead of hot to be gentle on the material, and tumble dry it. If it's inside out, you don't need to worry about pieces getting caught on anything.

How do you keep 100% cotton T-shirts from shrinking?

The way that the t-shirt is washed will largely determine whether it shrinks and how much it shrinks. One of the main causes of shrinking in t-shirts is heat. There are a few ways to avoid heat and keep the cotton from shrinking. Most people wash t-shirts in warm or hot water to rid it of odors and to get rid of the tougher stains. The problem with this is that the entire t-shirt will suffer for the small portion that really needs the attention. Once you’ve used warm water on it even once, it will be too late to save it from shrinkage. The cold water will wash the t-shirt and will not cause it to shrink.A hot dryer will shrink cotton that has not already been pre-shrunk. The dryer must be avoided in order to prevent shrinking. The t-shirt can be dried in a number of other ways. If it is hung out in the sun, there is a chance that the heat will shrink the t-shirt. Drying it inside is a much safer way.The t-shirt can be laid flat on a clean surface and allowed to dry on its own. You may have to flip it over to dry the other side after a few hours. For a t-shirt that dries faster, hang it up on a hanger and allow it to drip dry. Be sure to place something under the t-shirt in order to catch the water. For an even faster drying time, place a fan next to a hanging t-shirt and let the cool air of the fan blow it dry. A t-shirt that doesn’t shrink will maintain its size and shape through many, many cold washes.

How do i get maggots out of a hole in a turtle's shell using only household products?

Do not leave the maggots in. They are not helpful. If not gotten rid of, these pests will eat their way through the insides of the turtle and kill it.

If a turtle has a wound the flies will immediately descent on the victim and lay eggs in the wound. The maggots grow large inside and they feed off of the turtle’s flesh. Signs of maggot infestations are holes in the turtle’s skin or shell out of which is oozing a black fluid.

Maggots in the flesh can usually be pulled out with long-nosed tweezers. (I know, too gross) Flush the wound with peroxide or mild salty water. It may take several days or even weeks to remove all of the maggots. When they are all gone, pack with a triple antibiotic ointment daily. The hole will close up and soon heal.

It's a problem if you can't see them but have an oozing hole in the shell. You can only see their residue but nothing will make them come out so you can grab them and dispose of them. If that's the case try getting a small piece of gauze, a piece of duct tape and a sharp needle. Place the gauze over the hole in the shell and apply the duct tape over it so that it sticks to the turtle’s shell without leaving any air space. Maggots need air!! After awhile, (have the needle ready), quickly pull off the tape - and there is the maggot - poking its head out of the hole trying to breathe. Pierce the maggot with the needle and pull it out. Then discard the maggot where it will not be able to go back into the turtle’s shell. Repeat the procedure several times a day until the maggots are gone. Cleanse the area with a Betadine solution or mild salty water until the hole is healed. A piece of tape could be placed over the hole but check it periodically while healing.

Good luck

BTW Scott is talking about medicinal maggots.Only a few species of fly larvae, primarily blowflies, are suitable for such duty. Unless your sure thats what you have, get rid of them quick.

Better pet: Guinea Pig or Terrapin/Turtle?

I have a turtle and a guinea pig. It is up to you, but here are some notes to take on both:
Guinea Pig-
He will DEFINITELY move around and squeak around 11 P.M, but in the early hours he should be sleeping if he has a little igloo or home. Guinea Pigs have costly cages, you need to clean after a lot, need to refresh the hay, clip it's nails, but they are very fun and won't run away if you set them down. They can eat a variety of foods, ranging from carrots/celery/grapes to pellets that are sold in Pet Smart. They are not good for children under the age of 10, because it can be hard to take them out of the cage, because they enjoy to kick rapidly which can scrape you.
Turtle-
I own a standard box turtle. They do not make any noise while you sleep. Their cages must be pretty roomy, and can be expensive, but the grounding is not as messy and hard to take care of as a guinea pig's. I used a green mat to line the inside, but with them peeing and such, it's very hard to keep clean, but if you choose that, you can just put it in the washing machine and dryer, and clean the inside with a washcloth and dishsoap. I prefer to put paper through a shredder, (not shredding it manually or with scissors) and covering the bottom with it. You can dump these shreds out once every 2 weeks and put more in. Turtles will not harm you in any way, and you do not have to clip nails. To clean a turtle, you can use a new toothbrush, and put water on it and scrub him with it, but do not use soap. Turtles will eat just about anything, mine likes meat. Turtles will live much, much longer than guinea pigs, and in the beginning they do seem boring, and annoying. They will live for nearly 20-25 years, and definitely will grow in your love and become your companion.
For a 16 year old boy, I would suggest a turtle, because if he still has school, a turtle is easier to keep clean and his cage is as well. Also, a guinea pig will last probably 7 years -at most-, and most of mine have died around age 3 or 4. A turtle will grow with the 16 year old.
Good luck, hope this helps! :)

Why does my turtle keep trying to climb out of its tank?

All the others answers are correct. Wide space, clean water, enough food. I want to add one not mentioned yet, a shield or shelter. If you pay more attention, some times you will find the turtle is crawling towards a darker destination outside the tank. At least in this case, it is looking for a safer place to hide or to have a break, instead of staying in bright environment which is always a kind of stimuli for animals. If they are tired or feeling unsafe, lights will turn into day-nightmare.To have a shield, you certainly should get a big container for turtle. Not the round, heavy, fragile glass tanks from unprofessional pets shops. A big plastic sorting box or storage box is much better than those glass tanks. For a shield, half a clay flowerpot is perfect. Cut with a cutting machine or break the pot carefully with a hammer in vertical direction, of course. It is a cave and also a sunbath platform. The space in your turtle pool will be fully utilized. And the rough surface can trim turtles’ nail to keep their feet healthy. They gonna love it.

My house smells like our new baby red eared water turtle. How do I get rid of the smell?

keep the water clean, make sure you have a filter that can handle twice the amount of water that is in the tank, and a good tip i received for keeping the tank clean is taking the turtle out and putting it in a bowl with water at feeding time when he is done put him back in his tank and flush the water this helps because turtles usually poop while they're eating or right when they finish.

How can I wash my Nike Free running shoes?

They say use a soft brush with water and mild soap, rinse gently. What I actually do it to throw them in the washing machine with a some cloth so they don’t crash into the metallic walls when spinning. I select a cold program and once it’s done I dry them out outside. Avoid temperature and stron detergent. Main enemies of your shoe are chemicals, heat and dehidratation of themiddle sole as well as the ‘environmental-free’ therefore fragile glue that keeps some parts together.
