Can You Still Home School Even If You Live In A Town Where Theres Already A Public Highschool

Home schooling in high school?

I think that if you have the discipline and the drive-it would be great for you to home school online. But I would be cautious about online programs. You may want to contact a local homeschool organization to get information about reputable online programs. If you live in a rural area and there really isn't one...then contact one in the nearest major town.

The nice thing about homeschooling is you have more time for your hobbies. High school was really hard for me because I had a job and was always involved in some sort of production in community theater. I wouldn't get home until well after 10 every night and I met all my closest friends through my extracurricular activities-so they didn't even go to the same school as me.

And to correct some misinformation someone else posted...
Bob Jones University is in Greenville, SC and they do publish homeschool materials.
Pensacola Christian College is in Pensacola, FL and they publish A Beka homeschool curriculum

Home school vs Public School?

OK. I have 3 little boys... I'm really debating if I want to home school them or send them to public school.I only work part time so I have the time and the resources to home school, I just don't want them to miss out on anything. And I only have my GED - so will that hold them back in their futures, because I wasn't educated enough? Please no rude/mean comments..I'm honestly struggling.. I'd just like to hear some different prospectives on this - to help me make this big decision.

Can you go to one high school but play on another high schools sports team?

You can be Title IXd into a sport for the following reasons:Your school doesn’t offer the appropriately gendered team for you. You are legally allowed to play if you make the team. (ie, your school has men’s hockey, but you’re a strong female player)You attend a magnet school or homeschool that doesn’t offer your sport. My school didn’t offer cheerleading, so I cheered for another school. If your school doesn’t offer your sport, with consent of two principals, you can usually play for another school. That second school is typically your neighborhood high school. I know people who did that for swimming.

How do homeschooled children make friends?

I know a lot of people have answered this already, but here's my take. I was homeschooled all the way from preschool through high school. After senior year of high school, I stepped directly into college with no problem. I really had no issues socially, mentally, or educationally. I am the second of four girls, so there was never a shortage of action at my house. I was not lonely. My sisters, especially my older sister, are still some of my best friends. I must add SOME, because my sisters are definitely not my only friends. From the beginning, I had friends at church. I had friends that were neighbors. My parents had friends from who know how long ago with kids my age. I had friends at the park. We had no shortage of interaction with other kids. Between the library, the park, the carousel, etc. We had plenty of interaction. Here's my definition of plenty: No, I was not spending 6-8 hours each day in the company of several hundred kids my age. That honestly would have been stressful. A positive aspect of being homeschooled was that I had interaction with people of all ages. Rather than being surrounded by kids in the same grade as me, I interacted with kids of all ages. I have grown up having normal conversations with adults. At this point in my life, I can have a perfectly good, enjoyable conversation with a seventy year old, a 40 year old, a 20 year old, a ten year old, or a 5 year old. No matter. I didn't end up being one of those teenagers that are "creeped out" by "old people". And I do know people like that. They all went to public school. Not sure if that's a coincidence. So I had good interaction with a wider range of people, in my opinion. I also made friends at summer camp during my teen years.Moving into University, I got up a great group of friends right away with no problem. People didn't view me as different or weird. Now I'm spending a gap year (between Freshman and Sophomore years) in Zimbabwe, of all places. I think my life of interaction with all kinds of people helped me to be comfortable moving to a strange place for 8 months. I can slip easily into another culture. It's great. And I have lots of friends from school that are away this year. People in Micronesia, south-east Asia, France, Spain, Honduras, Chad, Malawi. Yep, I have plenty of friends.

Why do childless home owners pay school tax? We don't use the school system so shouldn't we pay less or nothing at all?

So, I actually am a childless homeowner and I feel that I can answer this question, quite handily.First, at some point, someone came up with the idea of universal, compulsory, primary education. I benefited from this as my primary education cost me nothing. Just as my parents primary education cost them nothing. They then paid into the system through their taxes to help educate me. I feel very strongly that I owe a debt for the excellent quality, public education that I received. So, I have no issue paying my school taxes, whatsoever. I believe that the best way to improve our society is to invest in education. I also KNOW that every dollar we spend on education will pay back 10 fold in the future. Education solves a lot of societal ills that would cost us more in the long run.Second, the idea behind your question is “Why should I have to pay for something that I don’t use?” Well, because there is a fair chance that you will use it some day. Most people will eventually have children. The same thing applies to nearly any government function. The most visible ones would be police, firemen and the military? We tried it your way, where you only paid for those things if you used them, and IT DIDN’T WORK! Let’s say you pay for a fire service but nobody else in your neighborhood does. One day, someone’s house catches fire. But, because they didn’t pay for a fire service, nobody comes to put it out. Well, we know from history what happens next; the whole block goes up. By the time it gets to your house, even though you paid for fire service, the fire is too massive and your home goes up too. So, it’s better if we all pay a little for the service. Otherwise you are essentially at the mercy of the cheapskates in your local area. So, there’s two good reason why you should still have to pay school tax, even if you don’t have kids. The best one though is that making sure everyone is educated is better than living in a society of morons.

I'm failing homeschool help me?

Yo I'm a freshmen and I'm failing all my classes in home school. I used to go to public school up until this year where I did good up until last year when I started failing when I moved to a shithole town. So I took homeschool this year and I'm failing still, it''s too late to fix my grades. My mom says if I fail she sending me to public school , I don't know whether to like believe her now, with all the stuff she sayin lately about me bein too imature to go to highschool (bullshit.) I really tryin to do good in school, I spend 5 hours a day on it now, even on weekends and I still failing. I really wanna do something with my life, real bad. Worstest part noww is the lonelyness, I used to have friends to chill with I ditched em when I went homeschool. I was kind of a dick and stuff too when I moved so I don't want to back too any haters in a smal town like this. I got a brother who is for sure at this point for sure going into the movie buisnuess professionally , and knowing his talent I know there's no possible way for him tonot do amazing, we made a deal a few years ago that we were both going to go in the entertainment industry and if one of us fails, the other will pull the other to the top, Looking into it now i'm not sure if it is possible. I also looked into a cartoonist who spent 5 years as a jobless hobo highschool dropout before he got his own cartoon, I got to speak with his and what he did does sound do-able. More than anything I just need some help with school I need to know whether on not to quit homeschool and how to do well when 5 solid hours daily isn't enough. Should I blow it over follow my brother or become a hobo while ignoring parents pissod off at grades? Man it's confusing.

I feel kinda cheated from doing homeschool...help?

Well there's not a lot to miss in a senior year except maybe a few football games at the school, which you can do with real football games or even go to the schools one with a boy friend or friends.

Then there's the prom and you can even go that if a boy from the school takes you as a date.

As for the prom a lot of it is kids gone wild. My former boss, when it was prom time out here, told me she went to the prom on her 18th birthday and got pregnant that night. The boy didn't stay with her and she became a single mom. So that's her prom memory.

There's a year book, but its usually just got one or two pictures of you and lots of farwell's from a lot people you may never see again.

What you should be more concerned with is your future.

You will be doing ALL that stuff and more in college, so you will have pleanty of Kids Gone Wild experiences because college is generally one big party for most students.

Beer bong 101 seems to almost be a manditory class.

Spring break is a bunch of kids in Cancun holding tall glasses with a dozen umbrella in them laughing hysterically.

So you'll have plenty of school memories.

That seems to be what you feel cheated out of, not the education, not if you're planning to go to college parttime in your senior year, which is what a freind of mine who was a brain did in his senior year. The high school sent him to a JC part time.

By the way, he flunked out of the UCLA, Astrophysics and Calculus did him in. He went from As in high school to Cs and Ds at UCLA

Most of my other friends ate the big one with ORganic Chemistry in college.

I'm talking it now as home school and finding it quite interesting. I digested the first 5 hours in one sitting. I'm taking it at my own pace and will probably take it a second time a year later.

Most of my friends from high school became lawyer snobs or druggie snobs and I don't see them or hear from them anymore.

The friends I make are in the real world or through other friends or at work.

So stop looking backwards and sideways and keep looking ahead!
