What do the Air Force Security Forces do in wartime?

AF SP's primary duty is to guard the airfield to which they are attached.  When a war breaks out, it depends on circumstances as to what happens with them. Background - I was an aircraft "phixer" during the late 1980s and early 1990's.  I lived in the SP barracks most of the time while I was stationed in Germany.  Thus, most of my friends were SPs.Some more background - if the above actually did happen, it was expected that our aircraft (Wild Weasels) would be 50% lost by the end of week 1, 75% losses by end of week 2.  By end of week 3, we would be nearly innefective, and would be completely out of "smart" munitions, and be dropping "dumb" bombs.  By the end of week 4, we would likely be overrun. If "the balloon" ever "went up,"  there were specific checkpoints and choke points that would be manned by the SPs.  Normal "patrol duty" (law enforcement, interior perimiter sweeps, etc) were to be performed by administrative personnel, as this was one of their "backup" duties.  Aircraft maintenance folk were to be issued personal weapons about the time it became clear the commies were coming "over the hill"..The SP's, in the mean time, had a subset that were trained as ABGD - Air Base Ground Defense.  Their job was to disappear into the woods for the duration, and "play Rambo."  They would set up booby traps (mostly Claymores), put up machine gun nests (mostly M-60s, and a few Browning .30's), and generally be a nuicance to any invading force.Thankfully, that never happened.Instead, the Persian Gulf War happened.  It was interesting, because I ended up going to Shaik Isa Air Base, at the souther tip of Bahrain.  None of my cop friends went there.  Instead, Marines and Army pulled guard duty for us.My cop friends (all ABGD troops), instead, were put up at KKMC (King Khalid Military City) in Northern Saudi Arabia, not too far from the Iraqi border.  There, they generally lived in a tent city (similar to the one I lived in), and did desert patrols to protect the base from any "bad guys" that might come their way.  Fortunately, that never happened, either. We almost killed them with one of our own jets, though.  But that's a different story.Fortunately, that never happened.

Air force security forces please help?

As an A1C in Security Forces, I can tell you that in SF, the people are the absolute BEST. It's a brotherhood (well, slash sisterhood too haha). The job... yeah, it can suck at times, but you have your aforementioned brothers to spend time with.
Your one big family. It's the only career field I have even seen in the USAF in which troops will gladly give, not loan, eachother our last dollar.

And the worst parts of the job aren't really all THAT bad.

As far as what your job is (depending on what base you're at and what squadron you're in), it really differs so I'm not going to get too much into that.
But, yes, you can study while on post.
And, an above post was incorrect. You do not HAVE to have your 5-skill Level (CDC's) done before you go to school, but, it is highly recommended.

Anyway, it's the best job I've ever had, and I've made a lot of brothers, not friends.

If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Hard to get into Security Forces in the Air Force 2013/ ASVAB hard?

I've set my mind to joining the Air Force and i guess i want to be cop, something along the lines of security and patrolling around on and off base. I'm only 16 and a junior in highschool but i'm really scared that i won't pass the ASVAB or do poorly and i won't be eligible for Security Forces. If someone can tell me what the Air Force BMT is like right now as of this year because all my prior research is outdated. Also i would like to know if the ASVAB is difficult as of 2013 and qualifying for Security Forces is harder to get into.

Can an Air Force Security Forces officer be a K9 handler or can only an enlisted one do?

No, a Security Forces officer cannot be a K9 handler, as it is one of what are known as shreds, or specialties, available to enlisted Security Forces members only. This AFSC (3P0X1B) is one of two existing lateral cross training opportunities available to enlisted members. Members selected for these positions are of the Senior Airman/SrA or Staff Sergeant/SSgt with Technical Sergeants/TSgt being selected to oversee each installation’s kennel as Kennelmaster. The other cross-training option is Combat Arms, Training and Maintenance (aka CATM, AFSC 3P0X1A) which is responsible for the maintenance and training of Air Force weapon systems and personnel in the operation and basic/field maintenance of their assigned arms, to include proficiency firing (when required for an AFSC) and qualification.
