Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to take medications with juice. There can be dangerous interactions between things like grapefruit and some other citrus fruits and your meds. It can affect the way your body absorbs the medication or the way in which it is metabolized. While the above mainly concerns prescription medications, it may be wise to avoid taking vitamin supplements with juices. I'd rather stick with water for these, to be safe and to make sure I get the best value from them.

Can I dissolve my biotin vitamin pill in a juice and drink it? It is not a capsule.?

Probably. Although depending on the size and shape of the pill you might have to crush it into a powder first. Some pills are designed to dissolve slowly so that the content is released over an extended period rather than all at once. Helps to be better absorbed and reduce changes it might unsettle the stomach. Keep in mind that the pill is designed to be swallowed, not "tasted". So the taste of the pill in your juice may be pretty bad.

Yes, but remember that grapefruit juice is loaded with furocoumarins, which tend to prevent drugs and hormones from clearing out of the system. The main concern would be with the fat-soluble vitamins, especially vit. A, which can be toxic in high doses.

Can you take vitamins after you drink OJ or with OJ?

OJ is high in Vitamin "C" & Potassium - Vitamin "C" actually helps iron absorption so it's beneficial to take vitamins with orange juice! The "ascorbic acid" (in your orange juice) will do nothing to the vitamin..... Think of it like this (and you can also tell this to your friend): Your stomach has tons of natural acid (called hydrochloric acid) as it is and that's where all your vitamins go anyway whether through vitamin supplements or the food you eat - the orange juice is nowhere near as acidic as your stomach! So your friend is wrong! ;~)

I have uti. Can i take cranberry pills while im taking antibiotic? I just want the pain to go away quick?

Absolutely, you can take cranberry pills or juice with the antibiotics, they are two different items, one is a drug and the other is a food, no interactions. If you want to get rid of the pain quickly I would suggest you drink as much water as you can. Cranberry is better taken in a juice, get the one without sugar added and dilute it in water before taking it. Keep away from sugar as this makes the urine too acidic contributing to the growth of pathogens, you could also take some sodium bicarbonate (1/2 teaspoon in water) to help balance the pH of the urine, the water should help to clear the infection much faster, take vitamin C in small frequent doses to help with the infection, you can take as much as 5,000mg per day. Also don't forget your probiotics it is most important to replenish the friendly bacteria killed by the antibiotics

Ahh, complicated.   Taking straight vitamin C gives you more vitamin C.  If we are to believe the manufacturers of whole food supplements (I'm using Innate Response's literature on electron microscopy), the absorption of straight vitamin C is very poor, around the 16% range.  In comparison, the vitamin C absorbed from an orange is closer to the 96% range.  To bypass this issue, we have whole food vitamin C that should be closer to the orange in absorption.   But orange juice is a different matter than an orange.  If we believe The Secret House, orange juice from concentrate also contains solids from the pressing floor.  These solids have been treated with formaldehyde and reconstituting them (adding them back) does not require any particular labeling.  I discovered this when a patient complained that she could drink orange juice in Florida but not in Maine.  She was having an allergic reaction to the added formaldehyde.   We can bypass the formaldehyde issue by avoiding orange juice reconstituted from concentrate.   So which is better, organic fresh pressed orange juice or whole food vitamin C?  The orange juice, because the number of compounds we do not understand far exceeds those we do.  On the other hand, if you are more likely to get the vitamin C capsule into you and the fresh squeezed isn't going to happen, then that is better.  In the end, it's all about long term compliance.

RE:
Grapefruit interaction with vitamins?
I heard that grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interact with medicines in a very harmful way. Every morning I take a Centrum vitamin, a Stress B-complex, and an omega 3 fish pill. Would it be harmful to drink grapefruit juice with it?
