Can You Tell Me About The Teaching History At Canada University

Can you teach at a university with a Masters degree?

In the humanities, you don’t teach at a university unless you are a graduate student TA (teaching assistant), which can be mistaken by undergrad students as being a regular professor, but it’s more like … an apprenticeship where the person (professor) who the TA apprentices with will always have numerous apprentices as part of their job, and when you (the apprentice) finally graduate, you have to apply (with 100–200 other apprentices) to a job opening at another university/comm. college/etc. The reality is most academic jobs require not only a PhD, but also peer-reviewed publications. Although I have heard it’s different at smaller colleges, such as religious-affiliated colleges. The exception to this is for the MFA degree which is the terminal degree when you’re teaching Creative Writing.

US citizen teaching in Canada.?

I will be moving to Canada and using a skilled workers visa for Canada to seek employment as a Special Education teacher or a counselor of children in grades 1-5. I have a masters degree in Counseling and a minor in Psycholgy, along with three years of teaching special education students and 3 years as a counselor to children in grades 1-5. I was wondering if I need to get certified in Canada before I can even look, or would my transcripts and 6 years of teaching experience make up for the lack of teacher certification in Canada?

Nipissing or Brock University?

I have been accepted to both schools for their concurrent education programs (primary/junior level), now its time to make a decision.
Nipissing (laugh at the name then get over it) is known for its great teacher education, my history teacher went there & loved it
Brock is ALOT closer to home, it was harder to get into, and their teaching program seems just as good as Nipissing
Are there any Nipissing/Brock students that can help me out?
Which school is better?

How can I get a job in the history field in Canada? I have completed my master’s and would like to have a job in the same field. I'm on a student visa.

Try applying for teaching/instructor jobs in post secondary setting like community colleges, they usually request a teaching qualification. You can take courses in art and social sciences. Other job titles relevant to your degree includes heritage manager, historic buildings inspector, conservation specialist, museum education officer, gallery curator, museum exhibitions officer, writer and an editor.Another alternative is to get a sales certification such as Professional Sales Certificate and go for Sales Manager jobs in industries that focus on tourism, information or art work. Opening your own business is something you can keep in mind as well. Ever taught of creating and selling a magazine that focus on history? Will be relevant to history lovers.I hope this works. If it doesn't, you should probably look into furthing your education to Phd or getting a JD.Never be discouraged. Keep searching.

Should I teach history or math & science?

Hi Arizona:

The truth is this...it is going to be difficult to find a job teaching history. There are a lot of history teachers out there. It really is too bad, though, because you would probably be good at it based upon what you have written and expressed.

You are going to have a better chance finding a teaching job if you chose math or science. However, if this is not where your heart lies, then maybe it is not worth it. Don't settle. If you do happen to like math and/or science, but love history, you could consider majoring in one (history) and minoring in the other. This will allow you to teach math or science while you find a teaching job for history. Also, it will get your foot in the door and you may find it is easier to get a teaching job for history once one comes open. If you only mildly like math or science, you may find that teaching it just doesn't capture your imagination and then that interest won't flow to the students.

Ultimately, it is up to you. Think about what you really want. There is no need starting over and doing math or science and finding you don't like it. Check around your area and see if there are any history teachers that will be retiring in the next few years. If so, see if you can be a teacher's assistant. That will help too.

Hope this helps, and I wish you good luck. B:)
