Can You Tell Me How To Hit This Note I Have 16 Days To Do It Music

High belting musical theatre songs?

Hi!

So as someone who's currently preparing for auditions for performing arts colleges, I wanted to expand my range of songs.

I am a 16-y/o female belter with this range:
G3 lowest
G5 highest (chest voice)
B5 highest (head voice)

There's a lot of Wicked going around and I've already heard the usual suggestions... e.g. "Let's Hear It For The Boy" or stuff from "Annie Get Your Gun". What I'm really looking for is the kind of song that no one else will probably have the balls to sing ... something that's not overdone in the theatre community. So, Yahoo!Answers community, I turn to you in this time of need. Are there any songs that go above the average belting range and are not overdone?

Thanks!

I am 19 years old with no musical background. Do I  still have a chance with learning to play the violin, or is it too late? How long will it take to learn at least how to play notes correctly?

I've had beginners start as late as 70 years old, so it's definitely not too late! How long is going to be a matter of determination and what you're willing to accept.  I've had students I've handed an instrument to [ie, never played before] playing with great intonation and technique within weeks, and I've had beginners who still have problems getting good notes a year later.  If you can commit to careful, focused practicing for 20-30 minutes every day, you'll find yourself improving steadily.I strongly suggest you find a good teacher in your area to study with.  They can help you best make sure you're doing things right as well as catch things you might do wrong right away. There are sites where you can watch videos and even participate in online "webinar" sessions such as Learn How to Play the Violin Online – Violin Tutor Pro or D'Addario Orchestral : Home that can help, but your best bet is to have those one on one, face to face lessons.

How do I know I can hit high notes?

I came across a lady singer who told me she was capable of taking all notes in a standard Harmonium. Being a male vocalist and having known the strength and scale abilities of male as well as female singers,  it surprised me.  How can a lady sing at the peak notes of Harmonium? I went on being curious asking her to sing high notes.  She started with the mid octave and started to progress gradually.  As she continued with the Taar Saptak portion, what I heard that it was just a change in the pitch with no clear voice and much of screaming.  Taking high notes is not necessary instead it is crucial to Polish your notes in your range.  Once you are done with the notes with comfortable zone, you might try to go higher with perfect voice weight instead of just screaming the notes.  The good idea to practice high notes is to get yourself locked in a room and sing your heart loud. Either accompany yourself with a karaoke track or sing the lines of your fav. high notes.

Is 18 years too late to learn indian classical music and become a playback singer?

Its never too late to learn. There is no age bar for learning. You can start learning classical music anytime. However, there are certain things you need to carefully consider if you want to become a playback singer. A classical music singer is not always fit to be a playback singer. For playback singing, certain voice qualities are required. Please do not confuse them to be together. Having trained in classical music largely contributes in a playback singing career, but its not mandatory and learning classical music does not automatically qualify you for playback singing. Learning classical music and becoming playback singer can be different things. You have to seek answers of some fundamental questions here. For starters, is your voice melodious? What is your voice range? Can you modulate your voice easily? Is your voice in keeping with current lot of songs? Will you be able to practice for minimum 4–5 hours a day? You have to answer some these questions on your own, for other questions ask someone (friends, relatives) etc face to face who have knowledge in this.If you are Indian, 18 year old person, I am assuming you are studying in 12th std. If playback singing is your career choice and your voice is good enough according to you, learning classical music is a tool for it. I don’t mean to discourage you, but I am stating facts here that this industry has a lot of struggle. We watch success stories of children on television singing reality shows and think that its easy. But are you really ready to face the struggles? Also, is your family supportive in this decision. The music industry can be very stressful and you need all the support you can get from your family and friends. You have to understand, if you are thinking that you will learn today, and you will get your break within 6 months, then you are dreaming. Please think about it.Having said that, if you have got what it takes to be a playback singer, you have got a great voice, great range, flexibility to adapt to voice modulation, and you are ready to dedicate your time and energy fully for this, then go for it. About learning classical music, you can start learning anytime. :)

Have I hit puberty with my voice?

It depends. First of all let me say (although I know it might be easier said then done), don't panic! Yes it really does sound like you are going through that old devil called puberty. But the more you freak out, the harder you are going to make it on your voice. Calm down. Relax. Remember, all males, including tenors go through this change. You have to know how to go with the flow, and enjoy those deeper notes that you are capable of singing.

Oh I bet your voice has indeed gotten deeper, you just don't know how to sing in your lower range. And yes it is possible to still sing those high notes if your range allows. The key is to vocalize your range from the bottom to the top. Sing your scales everyday, even if it cracks in some places (as long as you aren't forcing it). Make sure you are breathing properly and make sure you have good posture. If you do this, your voice may not crack as much. Whatever you do, don't scream high notes that your voice will not allow. What you do need to allow, is your voice to naturally take its place. Sing songs that are comfortable in your range. Now is an experimentation period. It is exciting to see what your true voice is turning into. You may have high notes in there, you just don't know how to properly place them. Seek a voice teacher for help. You are at the age that lessons could benefit you. The teacher shouldn't focus on finding your voice type since your voice is changing, but they can teach the basics of singing like breath support, focus, and projection. Most famous male child singers who go into puberty have a good voice teacher to help them deal with this change. Singers like Usher seemed to make the transition well with a vocal teacher, and you can too. If you can't afford one, see if the music academy in your area offers scholarships. If not, seek a choral director for guidance. Don't panic and enjoy the ride!

I lost my singing voice since last year. I am 16 now and not able to sing high notes. What should I do to get my old voice back?

First of all, if you were able to sing earlier then you can get your singing voice back now too. I had a reverse case, I was not able to sing very low notes. But doing the things mentioned below, I was able to sing the music spectrum the way it should be sung.It is found that the best time to practice singing is early in the morning. Because it is the time when you have just woke up fresh and your throat is clear and ready for the practice. Also, according to my music teachers, just one glass of water and empty stomach is a good condition for better voice quality which happens to us in the mornings. Before starting any song, first sing the standard 7 notes Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti in the best way you could do. Play these notes on harmonium or piano in the background and try to match your voice with the instrument. If you are good at low notes, then take a deep breath and sing them till you sing it perfectly with good voice intensity, and then move forward towards the notes you find hard for you. After this, sing songs which are at low notes, then medium and at last sing the songs which have plenty of high notes. Do this DAILY for at least 1 month. If you practice perfectly then you could get the result in 2 weeks too, but only if done with utmost care following each and everything daily.Though your vocal cords will experience some initial pain, so sing softly and just try to touch your voice to those notes. But with time and perfection, you will build good quality voice and equal sound intensity to both sides of notes. :-)
