Can You Turn On Your Acer Windows 8 Laptop Plugged To The Ac Supply Without The Battery

Will a laptop work without its battery?

Yes, it will work, but only if you plug in to power directly through the standard laptop adapter.  It is actually useful when you need to check if your laptop's battery is having some problem. But, also keep in mind that on disconnecting from power , the laptop will directly turn off which in turn is bad for your laptop if repeated continuously .

My laptop shuts off at 40% battery without warning?

Hi den!z,

If you are using Windows 7, right-click the battery icon in the lower right-hand corner, click Extended Battery Life Options and click the Battery Health tab.

If you get any message other than -Your battery is performing normally, the battery needs to be replaced.

Also, remove the battery and use the laptop only on AC adapter. If the system shuts down, connect the AC adapter to a known good power outlet and check the status of power LED on AC Adaptor. If the LEDs on the AC adapter is on, but the system still shuts down, check the AC adapter and system power port for any damage.

You may try with a different good known compatible AC adapter.

Windows 7 Power Options provides the option to set the percentage at which the battery should show up as low or critical.
The setting also has an option as per how the system needs to react at Critical Power Level, when operating in Battery.

To set the battery notification in Windows 7, follow the steps mentioned below:

1.Click on Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
2.On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings.
3.On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings.
4.On the Advanced settings tab, expand Battery, expand Low battery level, Reserve battery level, and Critical battery level. Change the percentage of battery remaining that you want for each level, and then click OK.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards

Windows 7 does not recognize new laptop battery?

I recently purchased a replacement battery for my Acer laptop (Acer Aspire 7740-5029). The battery is not a "manufacturer" replacement battery, but is of third-party manufacture. When I turn on my laptop (windows 7 OS), the laptop does not recognize that there is a battery, even though there is a battery inserted. The laptop does function with the replacement battery, but it does not report to Windows the remaining charge, or even that the battery is even there. So, this being the case, I have no idea of the charge remaining as I use the laptop and is of no use to me because of that fact.

Technical information:
*The factory battery (OEM) is a Sanyo AS07B31 (lithium Ion, 4400mAh, 48Wh, 10.8V, 6 cell).
*The replacement battery is a Famis FAM18674 (Lithium Ion, 5200mAh, 49Wh, 14.8V, 8 cell)

Additional Details:
For anyone who advises that I seek out and download/update drivers for the new battery, I cannot "download the driver", since in the Device Manager does not even recognize the new battery as being there as an unknown device or otherwise. I cannot update or install a driver for device that Windows doesn't know is even there.

Additional Details:
One other person has submitted that the original battery that came withthe laptop contained DRM electronics, so that one cannot replace the OEM battery with a non OEM model. Comments?

Please, qualified replies only.

Thank you very much!

Laptop battery unknown remaining?

Try remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.

Check if it's something to do with your laptop power cord or power source problem. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only.

--Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. If power jack loose you can find laptop power jack on ebay. However, fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill.

--Always, the green/blue LED on charger needs to be constantly on. If not, replace the defective charger. Since battery/ ac adapter won't last forever, you may consider getting a charger under lifetime warranty online from store like topmic.com

What happens if you remove the battery from your laptop?

I have this problem with my Acer laptop that it does not recognize USB anymore.
I tried everything, but now I've found a "solution". They say if you plug your laptop out and remove the battery and leave it for a while, the problem will be fixed once you put it back in and turn it back on.

Now my question is; What happens if you take the battery out?
It won't delete Windows or anything like that, right?
Will it reset time & date and such?
What happens?

Why my laptop is switching off when I unplug my charger or plug it?

No Need to change the battery. You just need to shut down the laptop with shift key and start again without power cord. Please try to press power button at least 4 to 5 times. It works. I have applied same steps in Asus Laptop. You can check battery status with the help of below command:powercfg /batteryreportYou will have write full command at same time and it will show you battery status. IF this show active status, no need to change laptop battery.
