By allowing the individual to do as they wish without posing undue hardship on the society as a whole, a better society can be formed from the good works of the individual. The state responds by making it harder to do things within the bounds of the law as they tack on another 1,000 or so regulations annually and finding more reasons to throw relatively law abiding individuals in jail for the slightest reasons.Sleeping in the public library in LA and you look homeless? Go to jail for two weeks.Own a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition in it for a gun? Go to jail for two years, possibly on a felony charge.Get caught with possession of marijuana for recreation?
