Vancomycin costs 1000 dollars w/o insurance. What to do?

My dad has had severe diarrhea for over 5 weeks. We took him to the hospital where they found he had c. diff.

He spent over 2 weeks there. After three negative c diff tests he was discharged.
We went to Walgreens to get his prescribed medications. Vancomycin costs litterally 1000 dollars,
something we can't afford.

His stools are more formed - its not diarrhea like anymore.
I don't know what to do. I called a "together rx" number, but they don't cover vancomycin.
I am thinking last resort to bring him to the emergency room again.

If anyone has any ideas, or could tell me if that at this stage vancomycin is not necessary, i'd appreciate.

How can you find out whether or not a business has insurance?

Gabrielle Riggins did a solid job in answering the question.Ask for their certificate of liability insurance and make sure that is has the company (or at least their insurance agent’s contact information completed on the form). If they give you the runaround by saying something stupid like my insurance agent charges me to send these out, then they’re likely not covered. You can also just request the Declarations page of whichever insurance policy you are needing to verify. This page will contain their company information, their agent’s information, the insurance company’s information, the applicable limits of insurance, the dates that coverage begin and end on, deductibles and a handful of other very useful information. The Certificate of Liability has some serious limitations. First, as Gabrielle Riggins pointed out, they can be and sometimes are forged. The other major problem is that those are the insurance agent’s representation of what coverage limits and deductible their client has for each line of coverage contained in the document. In other words, a Customer Service Rep at the agency will be pulling the client’s Declaration’s page and completing the Certificate of Liability Insurance (COI) based on what they read on that page.Hence, those are subject to input errors from the insurance agency. (They have separate insurance coverage to protect themselves from issues like that too, in case you were wondering). But, the other major limitation to the COI is simply that it only provides a limited amount of potentially useful information at a certain point in time.Insurance policies, especially liability insurance policies, are very complicated legal contracts. The COI, if completed properly, will provide you with a basic answer to your question about whether or not the business actually “has” coverage. But, it doesn’t do squat in telling you if that coverage will protect them or you. Exclusions, terms and conditions and many other factors will determine if the business actually “has” coverage for your purposes.

How much should it cost to insure rental cars?

If you own another vehicle and it is insured or if you are renting with a large number of credit cards, the answer is nothing. You are much better off declining the LDW and CDW charges, which can often be more than the cost of the rental car itself. That is unless you have no personal insurance or are not paying with a credit card.Your personal car insurance will cover the damages to a rental car when you are driving it. Most policies include this feature. In addition, most major credit cards offer coverage as well. It’s supplemental to your personal auto insurance (i.e. the insurance pays first) and will cover the deductible. There are rules of what you need to do in order to get this coverage so read that before you use it.I speak from (recent) experience on the topic. I rented a car to drive my son to college, it had more room in it. On the way home I backed into another car at a gas station doing about $450 in damage to the vehicle.Since my auto insurance deductible is $500, that didn’t work for me so I had to go to the credit card. After a couple of weeks of chasing down the paperwork for the claim, it was paid and I was $0 out of pocket. (this just completed about three weeks ago)
