Car Jerks Badly While Idle And Driving Help

Car jerks when going from park to drive?

No clue about the check engine but my car will jerk shifting going into park/d. Its like something with the trans. or something. Anyway I found that if i engage the parking break before putting it into park and releasing it after putting it into drive it wont shift so hard. Worth a shot, best of luck.

What are the reasons for a car to jerk while driving?

Under normal circumstances, on a manual transmission it can be due to a few things:Throttle application was too low, causing the engine to fall below it's torque band, potentially causing the gears to grind.Too much throttle from a completely stopped position, moving it from its position of inertia, causing it to lurch, possibly causing the engine to go way above it's torque band. You might have observed some cars doing this from traffic signals. On automatic ttransmissions, point two above is more of a factor. The first done does not apply too much as the electronics takes care of rev matching on an automatic downshift.

Can a loose battery cable make your car jerk while driving and act like it's not getting gas?

When the car is in good working order and running, the alternator supplies all the load, including charging the battery. If the battery cable is loose, the battery may not charge. The rough running is due to a different problem.

Car jerks/jumps when put in drive. what could be the cause?

If you do not know anything about car: First thing is to check the transmission fluid level do check when it's at idle speed, the transmission has to be in PARK position. Check the other fluid levels as well. Get some help if you don't know how.

The first thing is to have the transmission fluid service, this mean the fluid and the filter has to be replaced for the transmission. Use Honda fluid ONLY; Using other fluids will do some damage or severely ruin the transmission.

The second thing could affect the jerking when put in gear is the Throttle Body (TB) dirty and need cleaning. A vacuum leak could cause the erratic idle will have the same effect when put in gear.

That is all I can advise you to do. Get someone who know how or at least use to "Tinkle" with car and help you out. Send a message and I'll reply if more help is needed. HTH

Why does my car jerk slightly when shifting into reverse?

all automatics do this. Regardless of gear the magnitude, the jerk is a function of drivetrain and suspension slop, clutch pressure and condition, clutch engagement setting, transmission fluid properties, idle speed. If the jerk is extreme and changes engine RPM by more than 100RPM, you certainly have a problem. beware, it’s easy to get either ripped off or spend heavily. Start by checking idle speed, then inspecting/changing fluid, then inspecting suspension. then check the transmission and drivetrain for slop, wear, damage, starting at a driveshaft shop.Your low mileage car could suffer from the hands of an abusive and jerky driver, a driver who spent long hours shearing transmission fluid stopped in traffic, or a transmission defect.Without mechanical service, you can reduce the jerk by not stepping on the brake as you change gears, and shifting to neutral every time you must idle for more than 20 seconds.

Car jerks after transmission fluid change?

My car is a '98 Sunfire with almost 70000 miles on it. The guy at the shop said it looked like my transmission needed to be cleaned out. They did that and changed my oil. Now my car jerks when I drive. It is mostly when I take off from a stop but it doesn't act like it is shifting properly when driving either. Is it possible they caused a problem or does my car just need time to adjust to the new fluid?

How do you fix a car that shuts off randomly while you're driving?

It can be caused by an electrical issue or a fuel issue. In 1975 I worked for an American Motors dealership that was trying to find out why this was happening with almost all of their cars. I was on the team that was testing all sorts of things with the fuel system. It turned out it was a bad connection at the ignition module. When a car would hit a bump it would die. When you pulled over to the side of the road it would start right up again. This is part of what lead to the demise of the company because they were paying for wreckers for their customers and a lot of money to find out why.More information is needed to figure it out like does it easily start up again?I had a van once that did that . If you loosened the gas cap it would start. I found out the fuel pump was weak and about to fail.It could be contaminated fuel.Do you get a check engine light? That would mean there is at least one fault recorded by the computer. Some auto parts stores will read the code and tell you some of the things that could cause it.

Car Jerks When I Brake?

you probably got brake caliper sticking on it or a pad that's about eat in to on it or air in the line causing that to happen, and on the transmission thing, its probably slipping on it,you need to check the fluid level in the transmission and make sure its full, you may do damage to it if you keep driving it like that, some of the jerking could also be in the transmission on it,good luck with it,

Why does my car jerk when I accelerate? The RPM quickly goes up and down a few times and then stops. It only happens at the beginning of the ride and then it's fine.

As Bill has said, your car’s automatic transmission is shifting through the gears. It's not that hard to soften the “jerk.” Just lift your accelerator foot a bit when it's about to shift. You can both hear, and with the tach, see this moment. Listen to your engine! In my experience, automatic transmissions are only “not smooth” under hard acceleration. Taking things a bit easier will improve your passengers’ comfort remarkably. And you'll spend less on gasoline.

Lost oil cap causing car jerking?

I have a 2009 Chevy Aveo with about 45,000 miles on it. I bought it used last summer. Yesterday I lost the oil cap. Stupid, I know. About an hour after I noticed the oil cap missing, I noticed the car started jerking at stop lights and whenever idling. It has never done this before.

I went to an auto parts store and they have no oil cap to fit my car. I went to Chevy dealer they had to special order a new cap for me, but it won't come in until tomorrow morning at the earliest.

My question: Is the low motor oil or the spillage all under the hood causing the knocking? Or extra air in the engine? Will my engine be permanently damaged? Or will it be okay once I get my cap?
