Car Leaking Did I Break Something

Do mechanic do something to your car to cause it to break down so you have to bring it back?

I can't speak for all mechanics, and I'm sure there are still some unethical ones out there that make people think that we are all trying to screw you.Personally, I have never worked for or met a mechanic that uses that practice. You see, cars break, just like anything else. That's why there are so many repair shops. There is plenty of work. I try my damndest to not break your pos car. I know dang well that you can barely afford to pay for what is broken today. So much so that I will avoid telling you about something else that I see needing attention in the near future. You would just worry about it. So I do what I can to make it last. I'll tighten up those loose bolts and hose clamps, throw a bit of grease in a wheel bearing. Take a look at the timing belt and make sure it's not about to break. Cause the last thing I want to see is you pulling in my driveway a week from now, with another problem that doesn't fit in your budget. Sometimes Accidents happen. Parts get old and are hit by corrosion or heat cycling. Plastic crumbles, bolts get siezed and break. Not your fault, but not mine either. I try my best not to break bolts because I have to fix it, whether I charge you or not. It's a sometimes tedious and time consuming task that messes up my schedule. Now for the coincidences. “Ever since you fixed my brakes the radio doesn't work.” Or, “My transmission works great now but since you fixed that my brakes are squealing.” Or my personal favorite, I was doing a little work on a ladies car And noticed some vacuum hoses cracked and leaking or even broken off. This makes the car run bad. So I fix them, just takes a few minutes, no charge. I tell the customer as much and send her on her way. Wouldn't you know, next week she is back saying, “ You know, ever since you fixed the vacuum leak it has been leaking vacuum all over my driveway!”

Why would my car be leaking a clear fluid?

If the fluid is clear and does not have an oily feel, it is most likely A/C condensation which would be a normal occurance if you are using the A/C or defrost mode. To be certain, watch to see if the fluid evaporates then there is nothing to worry about. Condensation is a normal by-product of the A/C operation, the same as a cold glass of water will condense water droplets on the outside of the glass. If the fluid is oily, get it inspected immediately. It could be brake fluid which, obviously would be dangerous.

What could make the brake fluid leak after changing the front break pads?

Look by the master cylinder where you add brake fluid see if its wet or leaking there. When you push the caliper pistons in to accommodate the new brake pads that fluid goes back into the master cylinder. It did this because as the pads wear the pistons push out taking more and more fluid from the master cylinder reservoir. Some one probably topped it off and then you pushed the pistons in and there was too much fluid for the reservoir to hold so it overflowed. If this is the case then just wash off the spilled brake fluid with water.

Can I add more coolant to my car if it's leaking?

It depends on what damage there actually is, but the cooling system is the most if not one of the most important systems in the car, seconded only to the oil system.Temperatures rising quickly and not going back down can be a sign of a blocked thermostat; which will not allow coolant to flow. This can be checked by almost every auto shop; it’s hardly the most difficult thing in an engine. If you are leaking coolant, you need to find out where from and that will tell you where to go from there. If you can clearly see the radiator leaking, that’s about as far as the damage is. If you see it leaking from the belt side of your engine, a leaking water pump may be the culprit. Leaking from the sides can be a cracked block; or in some engines a knock sensor. Make sure you also check the Heater tap/valve; these can break easily. If you cannot see coolant leaking or it isn’t leaving patches on the ground then the only real answer is a blown head gasket, which can be signified by large amounts of water/coolant coming from the exhaust and a loss of power. So no, your car is not able to drive for an extended period such as 2 hours; I would even recommend having it towed to the workshop to avoid any further damage.

What happens if a coolant is leaking from the bottom of the engine?

What happens if a coolant is leaking from the bottom of the engine? It means you have a problem and luckily, you have had warning, unlike a tire blowing out.In any event, something is leaking, and should not be overlooked. It WILL stop eventually, when there is no more coolant in the car, not because it fixed itself. Fixing a coolant leak as soon as possible is crucial.Check the level of coolant, refill, and see how long it takes for the level to go down. Most likely you have a - Leaky Radiator Cap which would result in loss of coolant from the overflow tube every time the coolant heats up. The radiator is a pressurized system so if there is a loss of pressure from the cap not fitting properly or if the cap is the incorrect cap for the radiator, the pressure will be lost and a leak could occur. This can be diagnosed with a pressure test of the radiator cap. Refer to your car’s manual for the proper cap and pressure.ORYou have an external leak, and is the type of leak which is most easily diagnosed. When this is the case, the coolant escapes and your car quickly overheats. Most likely you can easily spot where the leak is coming from by looking at it; a split or broken hose or a hole in the radiator are two good examples. Leaks in the water pump, heater core, or engine freeze plugs can also allow coolant to escape. You may also find that you have a crack in the coolant reservoir. Since the coolant in the main system is what is keeping the car engine cooled, it will most likely not cause the car to overheat, but it is in this case that you will see coolant pooling under your car when it sits for long stretches of time. For more see link.Good luck

Gas is leaking from my car. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

my 97 sunfire just started leaking gas heavily from the left side (the gas cap is on the right/other side of the car)... the gas only leaks when the car is running, when the car is off the gas stops leaking so im guessing its a line/hose or something what do you think? also were is the line coming from and what should I do to fix it. I usually repair things myself so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hit A Curb Now My Car Leaks, Shakes & Overheats?

Sounds like you damaged the cooling system and perhaps the body work is interfering with engine operation.
Inspect it.
Find the interference.
Replace the damaged parts.
Find any low fluid level
Follow the evidence to the leak.
If you damaged the electronic cooling fan ?
Pushed the radiator back and
or kinked the hoses?
A tech would put tension on it and start straightening things.
But not a lot of tension.
Replace anything thats torn or kinked.
The do-it-yourself yards have similar beauties.
parts are cheap, you are only limited by your imagination.
And what you have to look up, or ask about.
You can also get an estimate after the basic safe runability is restored.
If you hear internal engine parts?
I would observe the warning lights, then shut it off and inspect for breakage of engine parts below.
Cease running it.
Put something like a sheetpan below to catch the fluids.
Then gravity will lead you.
Wheels and tires shaking means you bent wheels, damaged the RF tire or crumpled the strut and control arm and their mountings at the worst.
Shaking can be engine misfire, like damaged wires, parts, spark plugs
or blockages created by the crumpling effect.
Seek professional help. For advice after actually seeing it.
If the curb was on your right moving forward, the belt and
accessory drive pulleys are located there. that can be
where the damage was really causing your interference and noise.
Sounds totalled.
You could buy it back. Then repair it?
Or you could replace it?
See about its book value if it was fixed.

How does the flex plate break on a car?

The flex-plate connects the torque converter to the crankshaft. Stock OEM flex-plates are nothing to write home about.

You didn't say if the Jeep had been driven after the transmission had been installed. If you were able to drive it the three bolts and nuts that connect the flex-plate to the torque converter were installed correctly. I have no idea what they did to diagnose the broken flex-plate but the fact of the matter is all they would have to have done is drop the inspection cover on the bottom of the torque converter to inspect the flex-plate. It should take less than 10 minutes!

It's impossible to break the flex-plate by attaching the three bolts and nuts. It can only be attached by the three bolt holes in the flex plate. There is no other way to attach it. Go on-line and look at a flex-plate

The trans. is leaking because the torque-converter to trans-seal is leaking. They did a piss poor job of overhauling the transmission.

So what's the matter with the sway-bar? Look to see of it's broken or one of the end-links is broken.

Car broke down and oil leaked out?

Vehicle year, make, and model would be helpful. Depending on the vehicle specifics and not knowing it the vehicle cranks or not. Some vehicles have an oil pressure sensor that operates the gauge as well as signals the computer when engine oil pressure gets below a set psi. When the pressure drops below that level the computer will disengage fuel and ignition to save the engine from major damage. When the vehicle tries to start, it will crank over, but the computer doesn't register proper oil pressure, so the fuel and ignition systems are disabled.
Depending on the vehicle, the oil pressure sensor can be unplugged and visually inspected for a leaky sensor. In most cases the sensor is the cause of the oil leak.
Hope this helps. Christopher
