Car Needs Oil Pressure Switch Changing But Haven

Why did my engine light come on after an oil change?

Do you mean it came on for a few seconds post oil change, then went out and never came on again. If so, then a previous answer mentioning the oil filter refilling with oil is probably correct. If you mean the light came on minutes/hours/days after the oil change, you have a different issue. I would first verify what oil the mechanic (quick lube etc) put in your vehicle and make sure it meets all the manufacturer’s specs for your application. If your car requires 5W-40 and they installed 0W-20 (for example) it may not be “thick” enough for your application. If it only comes on with a warm engine at idle speed, then goes out when you accelerate, you may have excessive engine wear. Most likely, however, it is the oil sending unit. These often start leaking oil internally into the sending unit, which then gets oil in the plug in wiring harness, which causes the light to come on (or gauge to fail). These are relatively easy to check and/or replace on many vehicles.

What are the main causes of high oil pressure?

Oil pressure in a car is measured as the resistance to flow between the oil pump in the oil pan and the bearings in the crankshaft. If it is actually too high, it means you are not getting enough oil through the bearings to keep your engine from self destructing. The higher your rpm, the higher your oil pressure, up to the point where an extra valve detours the excess oil back to the oil pan to recirculate. Typically, at idle you will have 10 to 15 psi, with 30 to 40 psi at driving speeds. The colder your engine, the higher your oil pressure, as the oil is still much thicker than it will be at operating temperatures. Typically, on startup, you will have 40 to 60 psi, which will drop to ranges listed above once the engine heats up.A high oil pressure reading on your gauge means:The oil is too viscous (thick). Most cars today are designed for 0W-20 to 5W-30 viscosity. If you are using 10W-40, 20W-50 or something like that, you will have high oil pressure and high wear.Your filter bypass valve on the filter or in the block is stuck closed, and the oil is too thick or dirty to pass through the filter media, trying to go through the bypass valve. If the high pressure is at high rpm, it may be the secondary bypass valve I mentioned at the beginning.Clogged oil passages to the bearings from sludge.Your thermostat is missing or stuck open, not letting the engine heat up.Your gauge is broken. Check it with a manual gauge.

I have no oil pressure in my car and it wont start?

When you say it was checked what does that. Mean? The oil pressure switch needs to be removed and a fitting installed that will let you connect a manual oil pressure gauge directly into the oil feed gallery where you can get a true reading on the manual gauge. Once that is done and someone watches the gauge while the motor is being cranked over.if at that's time there is no oil pressure than it is possible there is a problem with the oil pump shaft, or the oil pump it self. But like everything else you need to start somewhere first And then proceed to the. Next. step
By the way oil pressure problem will not prevent a motor from starting unless the low oil pressure switch is wired into the ign or into the computer. If after checking with manual gauge and no pressure, the oil pan needs to be removed to inspect the oil pump pick up tube, screen and shaft. At that point you could remove the cover on the pump and inspect the gears inside.
While your at it one main bearing and rod bearing cap should be removed and inspected for wear. If the bearings are worn you will have no oil pressure if worn bad enough.Take the bottom section of the main bearing cap to a local Auto machine shop or repair center for them to inspect
Make sure you mark the cap before removing so when installed it goes back in the same position it came out, you will need to look up the tighting sequence and tourque value when reinstallimg. If bearings are ok and oil pump shaft and pick up are ok chances are the pump itself failed.

I got an oil change and now the check engine light is back on. What are some reasons for that?

Is the check engine light flashing or on solid? If it’s on solid, it’s related to the emissions control equipment and it’s relatively minor and there’s no real chance of permanent damage. A flashing check engine light means there was a severe misfire and the car should only be driven minimally. In either case, an oil change has little or nothing to do with the check engine light being on. They’re effectively separate systems. The engine oil, when the engine isn’t running, sits at the bottom of the engine in a pan and is then circulated around the engine by means of a pump.Whoever is maintaining the car needs to do other diagnostics to figure out why the check engine light is on. Many auto parts stores will hook up a scanner to the diagnostic port under the dashboard and tell you what error codes the engine computer is reporting. From there you can get a rough idea of the problem.Without actually seeing the car, typical causes are the gas cap is either not on tightly enough or faulty or an oxygen sensor needs to be replaced.

My oil pressure warning lamp stays lighted a bit longer than usual, should I be worried?

Schedule an appointment with your Mitsubishi dealer to make sure the issue is addressed properly. Assuming the sensor is working, the oil pressure can be affected by a possible defective oil filter or a material blockage in the oil ducts. I have seen in past incidents a small amount of plastic film ( yes the same as those you use as grocery bag) inadvertently finding its way into the oil during servicing can cause this problem. Using a thicker oil can also affect oil pressure during start-up as it has slower circulation especially when the engine is cold which can explain the warning light taking longer to come off. I hope it is just a minor glitch in the electronic sensor system but better be sure than sorry. This service work should not be expensive. Besides you are still covered by warranty if they installed a defective new oil filter. Lastly, keep all your paperworks and receipts just in case they will be needed.

2002 Chevy Monte Carlo-low oil pressure light?

to be safe...have your cooling system pressure tested at your local radiator shop or service facility. have a manual oil pressure reading performed to rule out a possible defective oil pressure sender. change your oil & filter using a higher viscosity oil or a good synthetic or blend. check the drain oil for coolant contamination to rule out gasket failure. if your low oil pressure light return,s & you have ruled out the possibility of a defective sender then you may need to address the possibility of a new oil pump....best of luck!

Why does my oil light stay on even after the oil is changed?

it would probably have something to do with the oil sender unit. the oil pressure sender unit is defined and symptoms are as follows:An oil pressure sending unit controls either the oil pressure light or gauge in your dashboard. When it detects oil pressure in the vehicle, a switch trips and either the light shuts off, or the gauge becomes active. A faulty oil pressure sending unit can result in inaccurate oil pressure readings and warnings. So, it is important to recognize the signs of a sending unit that needs to be replaced. Here is a short list of symptoms that may mean you should get the oil pressure sending unit tested or replaced.1. Check Engine Oil Light Remains OnFirst of all, you should always check your engine oil when the warning light comes on, even if you’re sure it should be full. Oil could be leaking from your engine, which is a more immediate, potentially costly repair. If you have checked the level of your car's engine oil and it is full, but your car's engine oil light is still on, your sending unit may be indicating a false positive, in which case it will need to be replaced.2. Oil Pressure Reported as Extremely High or LowIf your car's dash is equipped with an oil pressure gauge, look for signs of extreme high or low oil pressure levels. It is not uncommon for some older vehicles to have low oil pressure when the car is first started. However, if the oil pressure gauge continues to show a low pressure reading even after the car engine is warm, and there are no other problems that you can tell, the culprit may be a defective oil pressure sending unit. The same would be applicable if the gauge reports very high oil pressure levels as soon as the car's engine is started.3. Oil Pressure Reporting ErraticallyThis is perhaps the most telltale sign of a malfunctioning sending unit. If your oil pressure gauge or engine oil warning light have very sporadic behavior—the gauge moving from low to high or high to low randomly or the light coming on and off frequently—you can be sure there’s a problem with the sending unit.Having faulty readings for your engine oil can be hazardous, since you’ll never know if/when your engine oil is truly low, so it is recommended that you repair it quickly. An oil pressure sending unit is not hard to replace, and for most car makes and models, it is inexpensive as well. In fact, replacing a sending a unit is something most DIYers can try for themselves.

Does no oil change cause car to stop while driving?

It certainly can do. If you haven't changed the oil or had the car serviced then how often do you check the oil? If the answer is about as often as you have it serviced then herein could lie your problem.Over time, cars will burn small amounts of oil. Some more than others and poorly maintained cars moreso. If this is the case, your oil tank could be empty or just obtain a sludgey mess that once was oil but now contains all the grins and carbon from a poorly maintained engine and is far too thick to be pumped and lubricate your engine efficiently. If this is the case then there is a strong likelihood that your engine will seize. This is where there is no oil to lubricste and cool the moving parts of your engine - in particular the pistons inside the cylinders. The heat created by the friction causes them to expand and literally weld themselves together. At this point (and I'm no mechanic) your engine is what is known as fucked!

My oil pressure light comes on and flickers when I am breaking.?

it sounds like its your oil pump, but i would try cleaning out the engine first(better watch cleaning it out, especially if the engine is very dirty, cause it can clog up the oil pump screen).if that doesnt work, change the sending unit.it should be located right by the oil filter.
