What are the best DC Comics stories to read?

thx for the A2Ai often tell people that the greatest story ever told in human history is The Sandmanit’s a mythological epic traversing realms of death, dreams, and everything in between, centered on The Endless- the 7 siblings that shape all life; Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, the twins, Desire and Despair, and Delerium. one of the most critically-acclaimed comics of all time, for good reason, it’s definitely a must-read.and it lays the groundwork for my next favorite series; Luciferbuilding on Neil Gaiman’s masterpiece, The Sandman, Mike Carey somehow upped the ante, and gave us what is probably the only story to ever surpass Sandman in terms of scope and scale, focusing on the only beings in the DC omniverse beyond The EndlessMike Carey also wrote The Furies, which is an epilogue to The Sandman- also a must-read, with amazing art, as well as a significant portion of the third series on my list of favorites; HellblazerHellblazer was Vertigo’s longest-running title, with 300 issues, and follows the exploits of chain-smoking nihilistic british queer punk pickpocket, John Constantine, as he gets in way over his head in the occult, and has to square off against God and the Devil…and Constantine was first introduced in Alan Moore’s classic, The Saga of the Swamp Thing. honestly, it’s not my favorite, because the protagonist- “the Swamp Thing” frequently expresses a more conservative, traditional view on morality than i care to read, and i’m not particularly fond of naturalistic imagery, aesthetics, and metaphors, but i can’t deny the quality of the writing, and i definitely appreciate the horror aspects of the series. Swamp Thing has, undeniably, some of the greatest villains in comic history.the last thing i want to mention is that The Sandman has several tie-ins that are also crucial- Sandman: Overture, Dream Hunters, Endless Nights, and so on. and, the Sandman Universe imprint will be starting soon…anyway, i would say these are without a doubt the greatest comics of all time, and they all happen to be under the DC umbrella, and within the DC omniverse. (and fyi, Preacher is a great series from DC that is not within the DC omniverse)

Is it acceptable to fix circular saw on a crane above a street to "protect it from thieves"?

I've seen compressors, lighting trailers, ladders, and large storage boxes left suspended from cranes overnight on job sites to help protect them from thieves. A thief would have to break into the crane, hotwire it, and figure out how to lower the load before being able to make off with the equipment. As long as the crane's load brake is in good working order, this is a reasonably safe and effective technique. A single circular saw would look kind of silly up there, but it would work. The legality of leaving this load hanging over a public street (rather than over a closed job site) is more questionable, in my mind, but it probably depends on the specifics of the construction permits and local laws. In the unlikely case of the crane's brake, cable, or hook failing, you would be liable for any injury or property damage that resulted.

How can I get my mom to let me play Fallout 3?

There are some arguments you may use to convince her effectively.

1. Fallout 3 doesn't have to be a pure violence game. You can tell her, and it is true, that depending on how you play the game, it changes. For example, you can create a peaceful character, who avoids fighting and prefers helping people in other various ways, like collecting items and talking people into stuff.

2. I'm sure your mom wouldn't like to see you killing other people in the game. But you can tell her that you mostly fight monsters, like giant rats, mutated roaches and other creatures. A fact that is true too. If you choose to spare innocent lives, your enemies are mostly going to be beasts and insects.

3. You can also tell her that the limited violence between people can be controlled. There are some weapons, like lazer guns thatdon'tt spill a single drop of blood. They just make your enemy dust. No blood, no gore. You can tell her that almost all the weapons are like that and those are the only ones you prefer to use.

4. Another interesting argument would be telling her that you are mature enough in understanding the difference between real life and video games. I'm sure telling her that most of the enemies in the game aren't humen would work, but you can also tell her that the violence isn't realistic at all. The enemies don't feel pain, they often die from a single punch, they flee (so there is no need to kill them) and you can always "get rid of them" in more peaceful ways.

5. A very good argument would be telling her that the game itself, signals the horror of war, in a mature way, and shows you that violence is wrong, i repeat, in a mature way. It encourages people to see what would happen if the powerful countries like the US, China or Russia continued building nuclear weapons, and seeing what a huge mistake that is.

6. Finally, if the other ones don't work you can always... lie! "There is a control in the gameplay options menu, which lets you adjust the ammount of gore in the game." Such an option exists in several video games, known as the "no-blood" option. It is a lie, but hell, it might work.

How does one not get manipulated?

There are thousands of books on manipulation. Some authors state that everything is manipulation.Through communication we are always influencing the others, voluntarily or unvoluntarily. This can be even for the simplest things, such as going to a particular restaurant or choosing a hairdresser. So, if communication is also influence, then the main question is what is the difference between influence and manipulation? Behind manipulation, I think, can always be seen ill will. And how not to be manipulated by others? Use your brain and discrimination power, as well as your intuition.
