Central Heat Blowing Cold Air Why

Central Gas Heater only blowing cold air?

Try bleeding the air out of your line and relite the pilot. To do this, break the gas line loose (just one complete round to the left) where it enters the gas valve in your furnace. Leave the line loose until you smell gas. Retighten the gas line and relite your pilot. Good luck.

Why is my heater blowing out cold air in my house?

So my heater was working fine...now it is starting to get colder outside. I havn't touched the termostat to make it warmer of colder but now it is set on 77 but feels like ice in the house. I want to do what ever I can before calling a technician. i don thtink it was my fault that it is not working but need to know what to do to fix it. Could it be just an over load and it needs a break or is it a broken pipe that I couldn't control? I just want it to be warm :(

When I turn on my central heat, it blows cold air and does not heat up. I think it is a heat pump system. Help?

There are several things that could be your problem. Heat pumps are great units as long as there is sufficient heat in the outdoor air to be absorbed and distributed in your home. They perform best when the temperature remains above about 45 F. As the temperature drops below that, there are fewer and fewer btu's of heat available for it to grab and supplemental heat sources are required. When the unit operates in the heat mode, ice will often form on the outdoor coils and the unit must melt that ice every so often. Most heat pumps have selectable settings that will put the unit into defrost every 30, 60 or 90 minutes to melt that ice. During the defrost cycle, the outdoor fan will stop operating until the unit's sensor recognizes that the ice is gone or until a certain length of time has elapsed. During the defrost cycle your indoor air handler will blow cold air from the vents unless the supplemental heat source turns on (this is usually in the form of electric resistance heat elements). It is possible that the defrost control board has a faulty relay. It is also possible that the defrost termination sensor has failed. If the outdoor temperature is lower than about 40 to 45 F, there may be a problem with the supplemental heat source or one of the control devices that energize it. There are perhaps half a dozen other reasons you could have problems with it. You need to have a certified hvac service technician come in and check it out. He will be familiar with the operating sequence and he will know how to check out the components. He will also know where to obtain any replacement parts for the unit (most hvac supply houses will only sell parts to licensed hvac contractors). You should be able to locate authorized service companies in your local area from the yellow pages or by doing an online search. Most service companies have a standard listing of repairs and what they will cost, so the technician should be able to tell you exactly what is needed to do the job and how much it will cost before he even starts the repairs. If you want comparative pricing, you may want to contact 2 or more companies and discuss these things with a service manager.

Why is my heating system blowing out cold air?

You probably have a heat pump. The air temp out of the registers is usually lower than other forms of heating. If you think you have a problem with it, you can check out the troubleshooting guide on the heat pump page at my source.

Why would a central a/c unit blow cold air OUTSIDE and room temperature air inside?

A heat pump is an air conditioner that can run forwards and backwards; when it's running forwards it's an air conditioner, when it's running backwards it's a heater.  An air conditioner cools a room by heating the world; the indoor coil is cold and the outdoor coil is hot, it's dumping the heat that used to be inside, outside.  In reverse mode it does the opposite: the indoor coil is hot while the outdoor coil is cold; it heats a room by cooling the world, it's extracting heat from cool outdoor air, weird right?  Anyway, if it's very cold outside the heat pump can't get much heat out of the outdoor air, which is maybe why the air coming out of the unit on the inside is room temperature, or maybe slightly above.  Some heat pumps also have electric resistance heaters to 'help' the unit on very cold days, usually only first thing in the morning when it's very cold, and when the day heats up a little the unit can get more heat out of that air so the electric heat is no longer necessary. If you want heat, make sure the unit is in heating mode, if you want cooling, make sure it's in cooling mode.  Beyond that if it's no worky and you're not comfortable, there are probably more than a few service companies in your area willing to take some of your money in the name of comfort.

Why does my central unit blow cold air first, then warm while set to heat?

First of all, cold and warm are very relative terms. If your house is 60 degrees and the air coming out is 80 degrees it will still feel cool when it is in fact warm. The unit will usually turn on the heat source first then about 45 seconds late the blower comes on. This is to help mitigate some of this discomfort. Sometimes I have found the thermostat isn’t set up right and the fan comes on immediately. Heat pumps will usually start blowing much sooner to keep from damaging the compressor. There is also cooler air in the ducts that must be purged.

Why does my heater blow air from a vent on the ceiling and not from a vent on the floor?

In homes with central heating alone the registers are usually at floor level. Because hot air rises, it will warm the whole room.In homes with central air conditioning alone the registers are in the ceiling. Because cool air falls, it will cool the whole room.In homes with central HVAC, heating and airconditioning combined, the registers will usually be in the ceiling. Two sets of registers would be expensive. So a compromise is made with one set of registers. It is usually located above to make the A/C work best. Although I am not sure of the various arguments that make that decision. In my area, we have no basements so the floor is a solid concrete slab, I’m sure that makes an argument for attic-run ductwork and ceiling registers.

Central air blowing cool (not cold) air - recent power outage?

HVAC TECH. : you DON'T SAY IF OUTSIDE UNIT RUNNING OR NOT. check breaker/ fuses for outside unit. if still not running call technician to check capacitors, compressor, and fan motor. With that kind of age on the unit may be time to replace it rather than fix it. Good luck!!

What would cause a central heating unit to blow smoke out of the floor vents?

The motor or fan bearings may be burning out or the fan belt is slipping causing a lot of smoke to go up the registers. You need a repairman to come out and check your furnace out. Good luck
