Why did Chad Michael Murray (Lucas Scott) leave One Tree Hill for season 7?
OMG don't you hate idiots who give stupid answers! (Steven) Anyway, from what I can gather from reading online it was over contract negotiations - meaning money. Apparently Chad said something to his fans on twitter or facebook or something (I don't use any of those) about how the network wanted to save money and he wanted the fans to get behind him. Pretty much boils down to the fact he and Hilarie Burton (Peyton) wanted more money than the network or whoever would pay. A couple of others have said that Chad wanted more money/to do movies and didn't want to come back and Hilarie didn't get any choice then as the network didn't want her without Chad as they didn't want to break Peyton and Lucas up and wreck their happy ending. So I guess it's a case of who you believe. There was a podcast mentioned on the below blog link that Mark Schwahn did when they were in contract negotiations where he said the following (according to one person's translation of the podcast): “Right now, everyone is signed on except Chad and Hilaire, and umm. They’re in negotiation right now, And I know they’ve been offered raises, and hopefully they’ll decide to come back. And If they don’t and that’s always a possibility.” “I think in the way that we jump the show ahead 4 years, and some of the other riskier moves we’ve done. I think the show will be refaced and I think it will just be different”. “I still think it will be great, but I’m hopeful right now that everybody comes back, we’ll see”. (On a side-note, I wanted Lucas and Brooke together): Also, I'm only up to season 6 episode 9 as I have to watch it on DVD as it's not on free-to-air TV in Australia)
