Change Major Or Get Master Degree

Would you finish the degree or change major?

You go to college with the intent of earning a specific degree. Your grades slip and you are forced to change your major. You change to a general degree because the original degree was far too difficult for you to complete. You are really close to graduating (two classes away) in that specific degree.

When you truly think about it you realize that:

1) You really had no interest in the degree the further you got into it (both with the initial degree and the general degree).
2) The last couple classes are really really hard.
3) Also with this degree you don't see any kind of specific job you could get with it.

On the other hand.

Transferring your current credits you could go into a degree you are very interested in (that you will probably do well in) but it will take you longer

What do you do?

Do you think changing a master’s degree major is a good idea?

Thank you for posting your question “Do you think changing a master’s degree major is a good idea?” I am not sure you are talking about changing your research or specialization within the same department or whether you are talking about going to a different department.First, if you are in an interdisciplinary masters program, it is relatively easy to change the research emphasis or study emphasis. Second, if you are in a department that has multiple specialties, then it should also be easy to change. However, if you are talking about switching departments, you will need to reapply to an other program.Best of luck.

How can I master change?

Another answer for a different rephrased question - "How do I adapt to change?"This can be a common problem for people that will lead to issues in your personal and work life. You need to realize that:1) Everything changes.2) Change is necessary for growth.3) The more you fight change the harder you make it for yourself and everyone around you.4) You will adapt to all change and be just as happy as you were before (google synthetic happiness).I held on to a job for 10 years because I was so afraid of change and it only held me back from doing great things. The first thing you can do to adapt to change is to let go of whatever you have that is static in your life.Does your boss want to relocate your desk? Humbly agree.Do you horde random items? Recycle or donate them.Getting used to change is a skill that you can practice. Good luck, and apologies if that's not your question!

Is it sensible to change major to go abroad to do a master degree in China ??

Its okay to change major, if you not feeling up for it. But Why do you want to do a masters degree in China? If your losing interest in your current major, I think its better to think about what you want to do, rather than going somewhere and doing it.But i’d Say, china is really progressing in education, however I don’t really know which field you are talking about, so i cant really specifically tell you about a degree in China. But please Note: China is very much depending on Chinese language for education. Yes you will find University which teach in English, but again there are other places in the world you can go to as well.So think again, on why you want to change? and Why do you want to go to china particularly? if you can answer yourself, i think its worth it.Best of choices :)

Changing major for Master's degree (from bachelor's?)?

It depends on the field. For the social sciences, as long as you have taken relevant courses and/or have relevant experience, it can be OK to have a Bachelor's in a related but different field (e.g., history to political science).

But, on the whole, it would be much more difficult to get into a Masters program without adequate prior training (that approximates an undergraduate major). So, unless you took the standard courses for a CS major (or completed a set of relevant courses as a related major), it would be difficult to get into a Masters program in CS.

How hard is it to change majors from your undergraduate degree to your graduate school degree?

You see this a lot in medicine. As many would not like to realize, there's quite a few doctors out there that are treating patients that started out as english majors. However, they took the time to get the pre requisites necessary to do well on the MCAT, took it, and let's face it probably wrote a better admissions essay than all of us.  It's a lot easier and a lot harder than you think, as I speak from personal experience. With that being said. I've said it here before and I'll say it again.I would never curse anyone to a life in graduate school.I had a very very steep learning curve going from molecular genetics to analytical chemistry. It was very steep and with an advisor with political aspirations outside the lab, it made it all that more hard. But, at his core my advisor is a teacher. Being one, he's never backed down from a challenge. I wanted to learn chemistry, and so I have with a planned defense date coming up a bit too quickly for my liking.  If you've got passion for what you are trying to do. Do it. Don't look back, and just as Tim Gunn says, make it work.  If this is just a passing fling though, rethink your options. Don't use grad school to  decide what you want to do with your life, you'll only end up disappointed, in debt, and unhappy.

Changing major after getting associates degree?

I am graduating the end of this year with an associates degree in psychology. I am planning to transfer when I graduate to a 4 year school to get my bachelors also in psychology. I was wondering if I decide to change my major would I be able to when I transfer to a new school? I am looking into majoring in environmental studies and I was not sure if since I am graduating with a psychology associates if that would make it difficult for me to switch?

How do students change their major during Master's in USA?

After you join the department, you’re usually assigned an Advisor who you can turn to for guidance. Keep them informed while trying to transfer. You should reach out to the department that you want to transfer to. They make sure you have all the requirements to get into the new branch. If there are any gaps, you will be asked to complete pre-requisite courses, so that your transition into the new branch is smooth. For example, if you’re a Civil Engineer and want to transfer to Comouter Science, you’ll get several pre-reqs like Data Structures, Automata, Digital logic, etc.

Can I change my major after I get my associates?

Yes you can change your major. I majored in Bio before I got my aa. Then i changed my major to English at my university. Just talk to the department that you are interested in majoring in (assuming that you go to a four year university already). If you are new to the school, talk to registration.
